Superb exposure throughout to get the even tones, well taken, cool shot.
Posted by Dean at February 27, 2007 05:18 AMEmpty streets told me the night was cold.
What is that circle on the right top? Flat mon? orbs ;-)? Lens flare?
This is what Sam Javanouh is all about... ahhh inspiration :)
Posted by Ryano at February 27, 2007 07:27 AMDo you recall if that was the moon in the top right, or a reflection of the moon? It's shape is rather odd.
Posted by dave at February 27, 2007 08:32 AMI like the starbursts in the streetlights. Good exposure and composition.
Posted by Alice at February 27, 2007 09:00 AMThe lack of respect for bicycles by some snow plow drivers and some others - maybe the worst is calous jealous youth who I've witnessed kick over bikes (where I was unable to do anything to aprehend them)makes me sick.
Posted by Hugh Petrie at February 27, 2007 09:02 AMgreat shot! i love the glow that b&w night exposures create.
Posted by alounsbury at February 27, 2007 09:08 AMI love it. Dark and gloomy but also quite crisp. The moon looks pretty funky too. I love this frickin city.
Posted by Mo at February 27, 2007 09:47 AMLove the tones and details, nice work.
Posted by Craig at February 27, 2007 10:13 AMwhat's this trpiod you speak of? ;)
Posted by mel at February 27, 2007 10:33 AMThe subtle bit of colour that was left in this one makes it more interesting. Nice work.
Posted by Jeremy at February 27, 2007 11:25 AMLOVE the perspective & the lights. beautiful shot.
Posted by Serena at February 27, 2007 11:53 AMReally nice B&W - has a great film-like quality to it.
Posted by Daniel Seguin at February 27, 2007 01:28 PMWoo, that's my building!
Posted by Krazy K at February 27, 2007 01:48 PMGreat night shot!
Btw I totally agree with امیر ( roxa ) :))
The light in the upper right is the moon. It looks oblong because this is a super-short lens, and that is perspective "distortion." It would look "right" if you put your nose up against the image, or if the image was blown up to like 10 feet and you were standing 1 foot away.
Posted by erik at February 27, 2007 01:55 PMGreat B&W, one of my favourites from your blog
Posted by Alex at February 27, 2007 03:55 PMDid you rest the camera on a newspaper box? or did you have a tripod with you?
Posted by David at February 27, 2007 05:36 PMone thing is for sure, the lens you used for this one has 6 diafragma blades... Nice b&w conversion!
Posted by Maarten at February 27, 2007 05:55 PMThis is just amazing. Don't know quite how you pulled this off, the exposure is fantastic. Nice composition and span as well.
Posted by B at February 27, 2007 09:17 PMVery nice shot. I love the vertical nature of the picture but I would crop off just a bit near the bottom due to the extreme distortion.
Posted by Graham at February 27, 2007 09:46 PMGreat exposure! You braved a cold night to capture this. Thanks!
Posted by Photo Buffet at February 27, 2007 10:54 PMAbsolutly AWESOME. Love everything about this image
Posted by SLGphoto at February 27, 2007 11:26 PMabsolutely love it . really captures the toronto night scene with all the lights and the emptiness creates some mystery
Posted by liindaa at February 28, 2007 12:08 AMIt's so nice to see you've gotten back to good old Toronto for subject....that's not to say we didn't enjoy your shots of Brighton beach...:) There is something about this shot that's so captivating. I really love it. Thanks Sam.
Posted by Kiana at March 1, 2007 10:04 AMGreat long exposure in black and white. The selective black and white conversion is really good.
Posted by Abe at March 1, 2007 11:05 PMPoor cold bike. Nice photo though... always feel sorry for these creatures though.
Posted by ryan at March 2, 2007 06:03 AMThis shot is still freaking me out... it's so amazing!!!!!!
