very nice photo !

That is a beautiful building in the background. A lovely time of day too.

In the midst of all the wires, derricks, pile drivers the thing that tops it off is that airplane tail that looks like it comes off the buildings top. And behind it all - the modern building. Such is the contrast of the tiresome and the good of our society.

I can almost hear the pile driver bang away as I freeze walking down the street.

Fun shot!

I think its easy to tell that its a cold day... i mean, the colors just remind me of just how cold it can get in our Canadian winters. The taxi is a great focal point for the foreground.

nice busy scene. like the colors in this photo.

Posted by Andrew at February 11, 2007 11:40 AM

wow, this is awsome, almost movie like, the colours of that cab tie in with the powerlines and drill perfectly, and the design of that building is unreal!

Posted by sam at February 11, 2007 11:45 AM

very spectacular... the building is so shiny !
really well done

UFO sighting.
You capture so much in everyday scenes, I could swear you have a third eye. Oh, wait; you do! It's your camera lens.

Wonderful mixture

When I first saw this picture, I immediately thought it was taken in Chicago. I stayed at a hotel across the street from a construction site. No matter where you are in Chicago, the next construction site is only a block away.

Posted by Gecko Rock at February 11, 2007 03:05 PM

It's worth noting that the construction in the foreground is the new headquarters for the Toronto International Film Festival -- arguably the most important in the world.

The big white building in the background is often referred to as the "wedding cake", a much despised Toronto landmark that houses the Holiday Inn.

Nice, freazing colors ;) I get the coldness from the ice on the curb. Well captured.

I love the way you get sucked into this picture !

Nice colortone and great perspective !

Amazing photo, as always.

The composition of the jet's wake and the building is really neat. All of your photos have amazing colour, tones and contrast. How is it done?

Posted by Luke Cyca at February 11, 2007 10:27 PM

This is a great photograph. I think that building looks really interesting in the background and the jet stream coming from the top of it adds even more interest.

Nice to meet you. I am ICYDOG that lives in Tokyo. I enjoy your site "daily dose imagery" every day. I especially love the color of your photograph. I do not succeed though I try to bring my photograph close to the color of
yours, using PhotoshopCS2. For instance, the sky color of the photograph of today(cab on king | February 11, 2007) is fairly different from a usual one. Could you teach me how to proceed the color.

Posted by icydog at February 12, 2007 12:27 AM

I think this image shows just how spectacular of a photographer you are, Sam. Anyone who has seen the Holiday Inn building in real life knows how horrible and out of place the worn facade and ackward design look, but here, it appears better than I have ever seen it, and it perfectly matches the rest of the photo!

Once again, you astound me with the calibre of your work! Good job!

Posted by A.S. at February 12, 2007 01:00 AM

Lovely shot... really shows the life of the city. How do you get your sky to come out like that? A filter?

Posted by Ash at February 12, 2007 08:38 AM

Good light!

Posted by Osiriums Ventaka at February 12, 2007 09:06 AM

Some flashlight for the cab in the front and it would look even better! It's a pity this nice yellow color no drowns in the shadows. If the frost would be dust, I'd say this is somewhere in China ;)

Posted by Erik at February 12, 2007 11:17 AM

Awesome picture, I like how you caught the airplane streaking across the sky. I walk by that construction site every morning on my way to work.

Posted by Andrew at February 12, 2007 07:26 PM

what kind of filter you are using in this picture?

Posted by nicardo_jr at February 13, 2007 09:09 AM

Your shots of Toronto have inspired me to become rather obsessed with the city. The photo emanates cold. Very nice.

Posted by Joe at February 15, 2007 12:02 AM

Great shot! But for clarification, you took the photo at King + John - the holiday inn building (big white one) sits at Peter street :)
