Yeah, sometimes I did the same mistake too and I can see some visible noise in this photo.

...what a lack
;-P

Hi Sam, I can't get my eyes off of this image. Did you do more than the usual Photoshop work on it? Why did you get these colors with ISO 800 at sunshine? I love your work. Thanks, Beate.

It might have a high iso setting, but it's still a pretty stunning image. Great stuff as usual.

Hurts the eys...

It seems like a cut out

Posted by Hitesh Sawlani at November 8, 2006 05:56 AM

Still is a great shot, the buildings are very impressive!

Posted by Craig Wilson at November 8, 2006 07:50 AM

Despite the wrong ISO, it'a good one due to the difficulties to find the right angle at this place.

i'm not the only one to always forget to reset the iso settings after playing it then.....!!!

Anyway, great picture. As always.

Thanks

I do that all the time too. I can see the grainy look in the sky a little but it is still a very clean picture. We have to be glad for Canon's high ISO abilities! But it takes you to compose and process such a photo. Another pleasing capture.

Posted by Nate at November 8, 2006 08:44 AM

It still looks incredible.

Great shot! I like the contrast of the dark blue sky against the white buildings. Very nice!

Viewing picture like this, I can be proud to be Italian! : )

greetings from Milan

good pic, not as all the usual one sees!
Ciao da Firenze!

Posted by axl at November 8, 2006 09:39 AM

Oh man the contrast of the building is amazing. I really think this could make a great B&W picture.

Posted by Jon at November 8, 2006 09:58 AM

Ah yes! I too am getting used to ISO shift with my new Nikon D80. But this looks like you used a polarizer as well. The sky is so dark and the shadows suggest it was close to noon. Striking view though.

I've spent an entire day shooting in beautiful sunlight shooting at ISO 800 after forgetting to reset it. It's quite annoying because every other setting gets reset when you turn off the Rebel. I am surprised there's no creative mode that allows auto-ISO setting.

Oh, and great picture! Even with the slight noise.

Good polarizing. I empathize on the ISO thing -- one advantage to shooting an EVF digicam is that the settings are always in the viewfinder (covering up the subject) :)

First time post but have you set up on my Widgets, love your work!
What kind of filters do you use if any?

Bonjour,
How beautiful is your photo..Contrast, exposure! Very nice..Bravo! ( sorry for incorrect English!)

I didn't thing sam was capable of being bit by "THE ISO BUG", but apparently it even happens to the best of them. However, the recovery was well, this picture and lighting is great as always. I'd expect 1/400 to be sort of slow at iso 800 on a nice day though.

Pardon me while I get bandages for my bleeding eyes ... ;)

Great patterns in the building on the left. It's hypnotic.

Posted by sonofwalrus at November 9, 2006 12:04 AM

The ISO thing makes the picture very original. Please post more pictures of the Duomo as it is my most favourite building in the world (in wallpaper size preferably).

Closer, Clarice. Closer...

Wow! Looks grand!

Fantastic scene for a wide angle. Nicely done. I too have left my ISO at 800 or 1600 for shots like this. At least you don't have to worry about camera shake.

la chiara, the hotel on the corner right behind you, was the hotel i stayed in while visiting italy. that big red dome was the view out of my window. so gaudily beautiful.
