Comments: cable chaos

wow, amazing.. wonder whether anybody has still any control over what all those poles and cables are for.. looks like they have got a life of their own.. spreading and growing, taking over the entire neighbourhood. A new life form ;)

I think it would be interesting to do a photo essay about electricity. from it's origin to this and then the next step. it is interesting how we just take it for granted. from the oil that drive these cars to the coal plants that power the utility poles to the petroleum that creates the asphalt. oh the manufactured world we live it.

great shot.

isn't it interesting how black and white makes images timeless?

love it!

this is great, the jumble of cables and poles is very effective.

Posted by Andy L at October 23, 2006 04:42 AM

Great shot of the cable chaos! Like the framing.

Posted by Ries at October 23, 2006 05:22 AM

Messy, messy! Nicely spotted.

Posted by Laurie at October 23, 2006 05:35 AM

Blimey! What a shot and a great find.

wow, impressive scene and picture.

how beautiful!

Posted by sun at October 23, 2006 08:27 AM

Wow, it's so cool... like all of your work! One of these days you should post a really BAD pic, just to give yourself the challenge of taking a shot that really sucks. Ha! (just let me know if you need help with that.) :)

Sam, for really interesting alleys you should plan a visit to Valparaiso, Chile. Heck, I'll pay your bus fare from Santiago.

silence! empty and,,,,in the wire talking(phone) noice( radio and tv), WOW such a mess. good one.

Posted by effat at October 23, 2006 09:52 AM

It looks like old alleys in south Tehran! :) what a mess!

Posted by Hamed at October 23, 2006 09:54 AM

Ah yes. The tangle of wire from electronic develope ment where it was never considered. Of course, the tele shot emphasizes the closeness and jumbel of wires but it surely takes the beauty out of the streetscape of otherwise quite interesting design.

I think your choice of B&W emphasizes the grimness of it all. Good shot. I'd likely have done something like it if I'd seen this.

alors avec celle ci, je suis sous le charme !

Excelent prespective and composition!

Posted by Luis at October 23, 2006 10:56 AM

Wow, I really love this one. The busy-ness is great, especially in black & white. Nice job!

Posted by April at October 23, 2006 11:33 AM

Mmm. That arrow points right.. it should point back, so you immediately leave this depressing area.

Interesting indeed, and a good capture once again, Sam!

A wonderful document of the urban environment!
I'm sure many environmentalists would love to use this photo to promote their cause.

Posted by George Dunbar at October 23, 2006 12:29 PM

that is a great shot. i was long waiting for some dynamic, chaotic images. great shot!!

Posted by moorooduc at October 23, 2006 12:37 PM

wow, amazing how those wires set the mood. great work!!

Posted by andrea at October 23, 2006 12:52 PM

To say the least. The mesh of wires make it look as though the poles are being pulled over. Maybe they are. Nice shot.

Wow, didn't know we had this in Quebec city... that's rather insane! Great shot, good angle, nice depth of field, excellent.

Posted by Oliver at October 23, 2006 01:12 PM

wow!

Posted by shula at October 23, 2006 02:09 PM

now that is really cool. i really like the perspective to the scene. the black and white also adds greatly to the effect.i like how the seemingly not so straight telephone/electrical poles are uneven just like the road is obviously bumpy.

great photograph

wow, messy, id hate to see this place in a thunderstorm

Posted by Andrew at October 23, 2006 04:15 PM

Amazing photo!

Posted by Melanieoliveira at October 23, 2006 05:26 PM

Where in Quebec City is this? I'd like to see a colour photo of this. The b&w gives it an awesome feel but I also like the honesty that comes with colour photographs (especially in urban environments).

Look like kyoto...

Many cities in japan keep the cables above the ground because in case there is a hearthquake they don't have to digg to find the cable damage.

Posted by Simao at October 23, 2006 06:43 PM

cool :)

Posted by Serena at October 23, 2006 07:56 PM

I would've removed the whole arrow bit at the bottom

Je crois ceci est dans quartier- St-Jean Baptiste?? - An enchanting city, I would love to see more of your photos taken there. I went to live their "for a year" and ended up staying 9 - mostly for the love of the city itself.

Posted by ks at October 23, 2006 10:07 PM

lol isnt that like a fire hazard...

Posted by rebecca at October 23, 2006 11:00 PM

i love how the angles and perspective is so abnormal in this photo
i also really like the illusion of lots of layers
great shot (:

There is a sense of serenity amongst the mayhem ! Nice one, Sam

Posted by Rab Chaudhry at October 24, 2006 09:11 AM

what chaos, great find and great choice on using the 70-200, really brings life to this image.

Posted by shane j montgomery at October 24, 2006 12:13 PM

There is detail everywhere in this shot - lines going off in all directions. Good stuff.

Posted by peter at October 24, 2006 04:00 PM

What a great surprise to scroll down into the frame and see all of the geometry and leading lines. Incredibly well done Sam.

Posted by Abe at October 25, 2006 01:16 AM

I am such a fan of your work.

Posted by Michelle Bialowas at October 25, 2006 05:56 PM
