Posted by Darren at October 9, 2006 02:36 AMwoohoo..
i like the face expression.
he is trying very hard not to *bleep* up.
great composition, color and mood.
HAHA at first it looked like a microphone of fire!
Brave cropping!
Posted by Hitesh Sawlani at October 9, 2006 03:28 AMGreat photo. Most powerful looks the face: fire reflection, concentration and... sweat drops... Powerful moment.
Posted by Marius M at October 9, 2006 03:47 AMi don't know what it is with street performers. no matter how jolly they look and how much fun they seem to be having: when you catch them on photo they always have this melancholic look in their eyes? it must be a tough life.
Posted by faraari at October 9, 2006 03:58 AMwhao! i feel the heat!
Posted by kris at October 9, 2006 04:16 AMThis is great. I like the way the crumples in his shirt are reflected in the heat haze from the fire, coupled with the look of concentration on his face.
Posted by Andy L at October 9, 2006 04:34 AMVery nice colors, Sam ! I love the red of the skirt and the warm tone of his face, due to the flame light. Great shot !
Posted by Jay at October 9, 2006 04:47 AMHi ! brother.
Posted by Harlequinpan at October 9, 2006 05:38 AMVery impressive shot... congrats!
Posted by Jules at October 9, 2006 05:44 AMPhenomenal, I love the clarity and flame shine on his face.
Posted by J. Arturo at October 9, 2006 07:01 AMwow I am amazed. How did you capture the heat waves? I have tried so many times and never got them.
Posted by faustina at October 9, 2006 07:16 AMnice focus, exact moment! it's been quite sometime that i've noticed how precisely you choose when to press the shutter. i think that's a major thing in photography which is clearly visible in your work.
and i quess that's my next lesson to practice :-)
great work!
Very nice Picture! I love the illuminated face with the sweatdrops and the image distortion the fire creates!
I maybe would've changed the image crop to have at least the "stick" in his left hand in, other than that great shot!

I think that profession would tend to make me sweat, too! At least he still has his eyebrows!!!
Posted by pixels.in.my.head at October 9, 2006 08:09 AMExcellent capture and composition, you caught the action just at the right moment!
Posted by Craig Wilson at October 9, 2006 08:20 AMwhy is keith richards juggling? aren't the rollling stones on tour now or something?
Posted by dirk at October 9, 2006 08:28 AMYou've really captured the heat!
Posted by Maran at October 9, 2006 08:31 AMWow!!
This is a wonderful picture. I like the color of the man's shirt. It kind of goes with the idea of fire.
The best part though is the mirage effect produced by the heat. For me, takes the cake!
Hey guys,
This is my dad, and I'd like to thank Sam for taking his picture. I don't want any of you to make fun of him, he's a good man. I don't want you to notice how sweaty he is, or how ugly he is, or notice those stink lines around him, because he's my dad, and I love him. Sure, he may drink a little too much, and he may even like to punch random women in the neck for no reason. But hey, I think we all deserve to unwind after a hard day of work. And this guy right here works on a unicycle all day. Think about that the next time you're at work in your fancy chair with complaints of back pain!
So to wrap it up, thanks Sam. You made my dad smile. And not many people would give a convicted ra-.... well, thanks.

Posted by Ali at October 9, 2006 09:41 AMThe glare in his eyes and the swirls off heat are amazing in this picture...
Posted by Ben at October 9, 2006 09:44 AMSpectacular capture, Sam. That you caught the heat vapour.. amazing.
Posted by Sean Galbraith at October 9, 2006 10:10 AMThis is an exciting image, it complete freezes the moment (obviously all photography does, =) but sometimes there is movement within images). The first thing I noticed was the blurring effect from the heat, I really love that. I can feel the concentration and criticalness of the moment. Keep on showering us with ou amazing photos.
Posted by Andrea de Keijzer at October 9, 2006 10:12 AMBeautiful portrait and with fire in his face.

Posted by Ash at October 9, 2006 11:14 AMHi Sam
Haven't been here in a while, Thomas [gave you a ride in Nuit Blanche] told me you set up a time lapse of whippersnapper's "sleep is for...", looking forward to that.
And my friends told me you spoke at York last year, too bad I was in Tehran the whole year.
be good

very nice photo. the heat from the torches reflected in the eyes is great.
Posted by Vlad at October 9, 2006 11:57 AMGreat capture! The flame is nicely reflected on the subject's eye and the waves/ripples are fantastic!
Posted by onezero at October 9, 2006 11:57 AMThat's amazing! You can see the heat coming off of the torch and the sweat on the performer's face. Well done Sam.
Posted by Carl B. Constantine at October 9, 2006 12:01 PMLove this. Especially how you can see the heat from the flaming juggling pins.
Posted by Bob at October 9, 2006 12:06 PMI've been looking at these daily pictures for a while, and I must say that I love this image. The color and detail is so beautiful. I love how you can see the way the air looks through the heat and the sweat on the mans face, all so crisp and clear.

Posted by sigma at October 9, 2006 12:43 PMYou nailed this one - the expression of total concentration, the heat waves, sweat on his face, smiling watchers. One of my favorites.
Posted by Kent Blumberg at October 9, 2006 01:10 PMWhat an amazing shot; the fire is so close to his face that you can see its reflection in his cheekbones. Great job man!
Posted by arkady1200 at October 9, 2006 01:24 PMGreat color in this shot.
Perfect time, the effects couldn't have been better! This is an awesome portrait of the entertainer.

Posted by Trish at October 9, 2006 03:01 PMCaptured in the right moment - and the guy certainly has a very characteristic face. Looks very focussed. I especially like that the torch is illuminating his face slightly. Thanks for sharing...!

I thought it was Keith Richards once again playing with fire!
Outstanding, great capture of the heat waves in the air around him.

Beautiful... the concentration in his face and the heat around him.
Posted by Ries at October 9, 2006 04:50 PMGreat photo - for all the reasons above. I also like the very subtle blurred face of the woman watching, who is clearly delighted.
Terrific.

NEVER insult Sam's work again, I don't know if you are tired, or pmsing, or just got finished fighting a box of rabid racoons, to be honest, I don't care. Sam is a brilliant artist, and if he wishes it so, he just has to whisper your name in my sleeping ear, and you will become extinct my friend! Because I would do anything for Sam! I proved when he gave me a drive home, and I couldn't pay for gas. Yeah, that's right. I dod THAT!!! So fixing you will be a piece of cake.
Coop.
P.s. Sam, I need a ride home again tonight.
Posted by coop at October 10, 2006 08:31 AMIt's fantastc sam, I can see the air!
