Comments: lamborghini on china

That's amazing! Interesting shot.

Posted by Tricia at October 3, 2006 02:30 AM

what an amazing picture. i had no idea china cups were that strong!

Posted by Khristopher at October 3, 2006 03:42 AM

How did they place it on the cups without breaking them? Can you do such delicate work with a normal crane??

Posted by Michael at October 3, 2006 04:18 AM

The true "Luxury"!

Posted by Elmira at October 3, 2006 04:29 AM

holy cow! is that possible? i suspect those "china cups" are made of steel.

Posted by jesse at October 3, 2006 04:37 AM

amazing photo....
unbelievable act...

Posted by susan at October 3, 2006 05:43 AM

Crazy idea. I wouldn't risk my china, puting a Lamborghini on top of them.
By the way, was there any crashed china around at all? You should have gone there early in the morning before they could finish their work, so to see ;^)
Some people are out of ideas, aren't they?
Thanks for sharing the picture anyway.

Posted by Payam at October 3, 2006 07:07 AM

WOW! What a very nice car and great shot of it!

Posted by Ries at October 3, 2006 07:16 AM

Holy Cow!

That's an awesome picture.I wonder who came up with that idea?

Posted by Lycrester at October 3, 2006 07:18 AM

Sam, I've been hoping you had pictures of this ever since I saw it on AutoBlog last week. Great shot! Gotta love the use of a lamborghini to sell china.

Posted by Adam at October 3, 2006 07:34 AM

holy friggin hell, thats remarkable!

Posted by T.R.Q. Stockholm at October 3, 2006 07:41 AM

what? how did that come about?

Amazing shot though.....

Posted by kb at October 3, 2006 07:49 AM

I'm tempted to ask why, but I guess that's the point... Cool shot, definitely not seen that before. Though I still get a "bull in a China store" thought to the installation... Heh, but that's okay too seeing I'm REALLY not in the targeted demographics!!

Posted by Daniel Seguin at October 3, 2006 07:50 AM

one i things i enjoy about your phoblog is that while i no longer live in the toronto area, i am in the city fairly often & i see the things you shoot. we walked past this car / china on a saturday am - a couple of weeks ago at the TIFF

Posted by mi at October 3, 2006 07:55 AM

It is pretty amazing for the table, let alone the china cups support a car that weights around two tonnes.

Definitely a unique and interesting image. No idea how you continually stumble across these scenes.

Posted by ROB at October 3, 2006 07:57 AM

LOL!

Posted by Chantal at October 3, 2006 08:03 AM

Wait, wait ... is that a true Lamborghini on real china cups? Because if so, that's fantastic. As is the photo, of course.

Posted by Jonathan Wagaku at October 3, 2006 08:27 AM

This is a great shot, I like the positioning here. Whoever came up with the idea to post this car as an offerring was smart. Good on-ya for seeing and capturing this idea. Keep snapping.

Posted by J. Rivera at October 3, 2006 08:46 AM

Love the colours, the Lamborghini is a stunning car so I am bias :)

Posted by Craig Wilson at October 3, 2006 09:25 AM

Interesting image....er.... that is something you certainly dont see everyday.....I saw the headline and thought you meant..... Lamorghini IN China... but it really is ON china.......but why?

Posted by jezblog at October 3, 2006 10:22 AM

I remember someone having this idea on The Apprentice but it was never used.

Great picture! Wonderful ad work.

Posted by joy at October 3, 2006 10:44 AM

ohmygosh! what a cool shot. love the limegreen against all the traditional colors.

Posted by pixels.in.my.head at October 3, 2006 10:46 AM

Cups? Fagetaboutit. Give me the car!

Posted by Kevin at October 3, 2006 11:20 AM

Thats pretty cool, the colors are nice. But why put the car on tea cups?

Posted by Andrew at October 3, 2006 11:45 AM

It's a crazy idea!love it.

Posted by Harlequinpan at October 3, 2006 12:17 PM

I passed this the other day, and couldn't believe my eyes. Apparently, it's a demonstration of how incredibly strong this particular type of china is. The entire car's weight is supported by 4 of these teacups.

Posted by Rob at October 3, 2006 12:31 PM

Can you order that gentleman to set my table as well, I am having guests in 15 min.!

Posted by Jannick at October 3, 2006 12:48 PM

Nothing like using an absurd car in an absurd position to promote stuf.

Nice catch for the humour. Nice color of car - works well with the setting, but I'd never buy one if I did have the money. Too silly and impractical.

I recal being stuck for many K behind one, on a winding road with no pass opportunity, and the fool was only going 50 K on an 80 K road. Maybe it was only running on one cylinder?

Posted by Hugh Petrie at October 3, 2006 12:52 PM

For all who wonder why: it's a display for the store behind, William Ashley. They sell expensive tableware and cookware. Impressive, yes, but less so for those who know that Ashley does this every year. Two years ago it was a Rolls Royce poised on 4 cups and saucers! The Rolls must be twice the lambo's weight.

Posted by Michael Solomon at October 3, 2006 01:20 PM

such a nice green. i wonder, does it ever bug you that your photos look so digital? not in a bad way really, just very unfilm like.

Posted by Javan at October 3, 2006 01:59 PM

Heh, interesting.
Sam, may I make a photo request? Please do a self-portrait, pretty please :)

Posted by Sara at October 3, 2006 03:23 PM

i love the pictures where there's a reflection of yourself somewhere, like in on the lambo's door.

Posted by faraari at October 3, 2006 03:26 PM

well composed and nicely processed image.

Posted by Photoblog Community at October 3, 2006 04:13 PM

Nice green car ... but who makes the china teacups that can support such a weight? Now that's a set of tableware that I could go for.

Posted by sheila at October 3, 2006 04:23 PM

Well that's some centerpiece for an elegant table setting. Very amusing, odd, interesting.

Posted by Laurie at October 3, 2006 04:27 PM

Perfect shade of green! I like the creative display too.

Posted by Tyson Williams at October 3, 2006 05:38 PM

Very cool!

Posted by Vickie at October 3, 2006 07:26 PM

How convenient! Just honk if you need the garçon!

Posted by Ben at October 3, 2006 07:34 PM

I always thought china was very strong ... its weakness is that it's brittle. Most fired pottery is easily broken but practically indestructible, which is why so much of it survives.

And why a car on cups? Because it's cool! Sometimes things don't need a purpose. Just enjoy the sight.

Posted by Gloria at October 3, 2006 08:41 PM

i bet those china cups are made out of cement =D
great shot though!

Posted by weiwei at October 3, 2006 09:16 PM

Fantastic colors!

Posted by jasonspix at October 3, 2006 09:39 PM

Okay I admit it - I have never seen anything like that before!

Posted by mykodachrome at October 3, 2006 09:56 PM

great shot i love the colours and is that the place with the "great wall of china" ?

Posted by christine at October 3, 2006 11:03 PM

I passed by this on the street last month. I remember that were were signs around it warning "DON"T TOUCH" :-)

Posted by Damon Schreiber at October 3, 2006 11:27 PM

imagine dinner time conversation...

Posted by erin at October 3, 2006 11:49 PM

I'd hate to see what they're serving for dessert.......

Posted by Kathy at October 4, 2006 12:47 AM

That's unreal! i didn't know that lambo's were so light.

Posted by Josh Jones at October 4, 2006 01:40 AM

I wonder if the engine and all the other parts are still inside?

Wonder who gets to choose which car they use each year?

Posted by Chris Nolan.ca at October 4, 2006 04:52 AM

Ceramics perform well under compression. Under tension, there would be a completely different result (which is why something can appear to be so strong, yet is also fragile).

Posted by Mathew at October 4, 2006 12:04 PM

Interesting marketing idea. Certainly draws the kind of attention that china alone would never have. Appears to be a stone table, should have been fairly easy to drive the car onto it using loading ramps, then jack it up slightly on each end to place the cups under the tires.

Posted by phoric at October 4, 2006 03:37 PM

can you put the wallpaper size of this picture ....

Posted by moe Kazemi at October 4, 2006 11:46 PM

"A bull in a china shop" is what they are after. Not just any car would do. Lamborghini's logo is a bull.

Posted by mgseeley at October 5, 2006 07:36 AM

It's at William Ashley's - a china store. They've done this many a time in the past, I've seen an F1 car and a Smart car before on China cups. And yes, China is THAT strong.

Posted by Andrew at October 5, 2006 10:25 AM

Oh yeah, I saw this as well. What was not shown here was the guard that stood around 24/7. Very vibrant shot nonetheless.

Posted by retrochronix at November 2, 2006 12:55 AM

Clever art installation / advertisement. The gaudy green arrows bother me though. I like your choices in composing the shot.
