Ok that dude just looks freaky! Great capture!

Nice shot! But is he really watching Dustin - looks rather that he sets his mind on what he is listening?? Anyway - YOU were watching Dustin.

Posted by Hansi at September 11, 2006 02:45 AM

almost a scary-psycho look... from witch thriller comes this scene again?

Posted by javga at September 11, 2006 03:35 AM

..handsome..

Posted by Susie at September 11, 2006 03:56 AM

Great shot, looks like he is staring straight through him!

Posted by Craig Wilson at September 11, 2006 05:14 AM

if I was there , I would watch the guy instead of Mr.Hoffman an other artists...! ;)

He is in a world of his own... I can picture a thought bubble coming out of his head saying

"Ba dum di dum dum I wanna go home and watch some Scrubs... Im hungry too.. mmm pancakes"

Posted by Hitesh Sawlan at September 11, 2006 06:35 AM

He looks like an agent or something!

Posted by vg at September 11, 2006 07:06 AM

Somewhat creepy.. I;'d be worried if I were mr Hoffman...

And as usual a nice shot Sam!

Posted by Michael at September 11, 2006 07:32 AM

i do love your artful photos sam; as a painter i find much inspiration in them. here, so many brushworthy expressions!

Posted by lyn at September 11, 2006 07:47 AM

great photo! the man could come from another planet...

Posted by marina at September 11, 2006 08:09 AM

i believe this guy is not even seeing DH. this guy seems to be somewhere else.
very good photo though...

Posted by veba at September 11, 2006 08:19 AM

This is the one Sam, just great. Hoffman is a very nice guy, I met him years ago in LA and he's humble, down to earth, funny. I'd say The Graduate was a milestone and so was Midnight Cowboy; those movies changed movies forever. Great image.

So what's the dude listening to? Eric Crapton? Oh! That should be Clapton - sorry.

Fun shot, Sam.

That's Dave! He's by far the most entertaining person in that crowd, believe me! This is what he is hearing in his head:

"Do whatever it takes to keep those crazed fanatics away from the talent! Watch out for the guy with the camera! There are 3 seats left in the balcony! How many people are there in line?" Has the "Talent" arrived yet? The last limo is delayed! Are there enough bowls of blue M&Ms in the green room? There is now 1/2 a seat left in the main floor! The popcorn machine on the mezzanine is spewing out projectile popcorn all over the Gold Patrons! Keep that guy with the camera away from Mr. Hoffman! IT'S JUST A MOVIE! IT'S JUST A MOVIE!!!!"

Fun shot, Sam! Good one of Handsome Dave!

He looks like he's looking at something far away. Or lost in his own world, looking at nothing really. His focus is too high to be looking at Dustin, I think.

Reminds me of the moment before General Zod tries to fry the gas tank on the tanker truck in Superman II.

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!

:)

Vaporize Hoffman!

Posted by casey at September 11, 2006 02:51 PM

Amazing shot ... it's just outstanding ... thanks for sharing ...

Posted by Ali at September 11, 2006 05:29 PM

Mr. Dustin Hoffman, this is just the hell of a capture Sam! The guy in the back could be mistaken for the leading actor of the film if it wasn't for the presence of Dustin. Maybe he is security staff though he looks quite "soft". I think he is lost in his own thoughts or is having an episode of divine trance after seeing such "God" on earth.

Posted by Carlos Lorenzo at September 11, 2006 06:30 PM

it looks like a few people are eyeing your camera too. look at the man in the hat and glasses, and the people around him ..
better watch your back sam!

Posted by beth at September 11, 2006 06:48 PM

awesome! how early did you have to be there to get a good view? i wish dc had a major film fest so i could be a real paparazzi :)

Posted by marie at September 11, 2006 06:53 PM

I cant help but notice that Dusting Hoffman is not the one in focus. should he be the only focus? the guy with headset is stealinig all the attention. You can hardly even notice Dustin. I dont mean to come off as rude, but this is not an "outstanding" shot as stated above. You should have waited / posted a better shot.

Posted by need better at September 11, 2006 07:02 PM

I like this guy also sam jan!!! Who is observing him then,... he need guard to be safe as well.
nice shot

Posted by susa at September 12, 2006 02:41 AM

This is quite the comical picture. His head is so much larger than everyone. I love how you're drawn to his gaze... and Hoffman looks kind :\ no?

Posted by Shannon at September 12, 2006 02:34 PM

Looks like he wants a piece of him!

Posted by Luke Tyszkiewicz at September 12, 2006 04:04 PM

I like how the big movie star isn't the focus of the picture. Mr Hoffman doesn't look like a happy camper but then I don't think I would be either with that fella looking like he wants to knife me! Nice photo!

Nice shot and great DoF! Sam, from where you were shooting, what was happening behind you?

The guy's line of sight appears to fall on the face of the bald man in the lower right. From the angle of the bald man's head he might well be looking back at the first guy. Event coordinator and security man perhaps?

Also, look at the face of the fellow in the red shirt to the left of the first guy. He appears to be looking at whatever the first guy is looking at. The tall man in glasses above him seems to be looking that way too. So does the short lad in the ballcap, lower right.

A friend gave me this great piece of field shooting advice: "From wherever you are shooting, turn around and look behind you. Some of your best shots will come from there...".

Anyway, looking so intently at these two puts DH in the background a bit. Cool.
