I can't stop looking at the sign at the right of the image.
Posted by navin harish at August 25, 2006 04:48 AMWhen I saw "Lovers on Stairs" appear on my RSS Feed I thought, "Oh, it'll be a couple holding hands or something". But then I saw it and it made me laugh out loud :D
Get a room!
that cant be comfortable... lol Fabulous photo!
Posted by kate at August 25, 2006 05:51 AMwhere did you exactly take this picture?is it in piazza di santa maria maggiore?
Posted by ele at August 25, 2006 06:07 AMI can imagine the two passers-by saying to each other "No, don't look at them". Wonder if there's any connection between them and the implied action of the sign?
Posted by milou at August 25, 2006 06:10 AMi do like the shot & title:delicious!
What an adorable photo. Of course, it is in Italy.
Posted by Sean Galbraith at August 25, 2006 07:41 AMFunny picture. Uncomfortable spot for love. The Italian graffiti lacks quality for so artistic a nation.
Next!
Posted by Hugh Petrie at August 25, 2006 07:52 AMIt could be "lovers" or it could be a girl caught a thief who stole her purse or somethin' like that and she's beating a crap outta him! hehe...
Good Catch though!
Posted by Amin Tabrizi at August 25, 2006 08:04 AMYou go to Rome and this is the picture that you post? C'mon Sam... I'm sure you have 500 better shots than this. Even if it's the 'typical' Rome shots that everyone, including myself, have taken - we're looking forward to seeing how you wow us with your eye, skill, and extensive post-processing to see the pictures really 'pop'.
This is just plain boring.
Posted by Adam at August 25, 2006 08:25 AMget a room you two!!
Posted by Gabriel at August 25, 2006 08:59 AMThat has to be the least-comfortable make-out session in history!
Posted by Rob at August 25, 2006 10:30 AMThat cant be good for the back! Love the detail in the building and steps.
Posted by Craig Wilson at August 25, 2006 10:34 AMI'd recognize that tag anywhere. This looks like the steps leading up to the Vatican. I recognize the tag on the bottom of the door as John Paul's. This is HIS town!
Posted by furt at August 25, 2006 10:35 AMhilarious.
Posted by Stephen at August 25, 2006 11:34 AMLovers indeed! this is a great capture. The Decisive Moment!
Posted by ana at August 25, 2006 12:18 PMWoah! Good job, Sam. You managed to get in almost all your favorites here: a doorway, some graffitti & tags, a street sign, architecture/marble, wood, people (possibly homeless lovers?), and made it all work. Neato! :)
Posted by BrotherAli at August 25, 2006 12:20 PMAll I can think of is OUCH! How uncomfortable that looks.
Where in Rome was this shot?
Posted by Laurie at August 25, 2006 12:25 PMThis should be featured in one of those credit card "Priceless" ads. Ticket to rome: $800 dollars, Breath freshener: $1.00, seeing yourself making out on the internet: priceless...
Posted by SMK at August 25, 2006 01:44 PMSam,
What a great shot! I love it. Anybody know what language is on the sign to the left of the lovers, and what it says?
Beautiful. Thanks for this, and for all that you share. :)

Posted by annemarie j at August 25, 2006 01:59 PMwhat an outstanding capture!
Posted by Rui at August 25, 2006 06:03 PMsorry Italians but the area looks nasty. Young love is its redeeming factor.
Posted by Anne at August 25, 2006 08:38 PMlol @ that guy with a handbag
Posted by MAG at August 25, 2006 09:46 PMMamamia!let me go!
Posted by Harlequinpan at August 26, 2006 05:23 AMWhy are there so many (very human) human beings in Sam's shots of Italy — and so few in his shots of Toronto?
Posted by forrest at August 26, 2006 08:58 AMWhy lable the photo only "Lovers on Stairs"? From the way one of the passing gentlemen is holding his shoulder bag you might title the photo "Lovers on Stairs and Lovers out for a Stroll". By the way: the steps of Rome, the columns, and the door could sure use a good scrubbing... they're filthy.
Posted by martin at August 27, 2006 02:41 PMI think it's awful that these two men just walk by these poor Siamese twins that have fallen down on the steps. Shame on you two!! Way to expose these two bastards Sam!
Posted by keith cooper at August 28, 2006 01:24 PMWell done. Bravo.
Posted by Craig Persel at August 28, 2006 04:59 PMOooooh!... It's ME!!!! (and my girlfriend), what a shame!
Great passion, great moment, great shot and great photographer. Congratulations!
Posted by Guacamole Project at August 28, 2006 11:28 PMIn light of previous comments about "privacy", getting permission, etc., I am suprised no one asked you if you had asked their permission prior to taking the photo. Thanks for another "full" photo once again. A hundred stories could be written.
