I love it! Deserves to be on the cover of Lonely Planet's next edition of their Italy travel guide.

There is a lot going on in this image, but it works out quite well, well done!

This is soo typically italian. I have been there many times and this expresses exactly what I still can remember from my last trip a few years ago.

Love the colours, they seem to be softer than expected.

The persistence of people who try to brighten up the often otherwise dreary housing shows with the flowers and flag, but the bars to keep out thieves which are everywhere show the persistence of the huge social problem with mafia.

We are extremely lucky in canada to not, as yet, need such extreme protection for our houses.

The picture, if not beautiful in a usual sense, is good photo journalism.

I don't think those bars are used to fight "mafia" (do you think some bars could be useful to?), which for sure is not present in Bolsena, a small village north of Rome. PLEASE, don't fall in the prejudice to think that Mafia is all over Italy..

As for the shot, I think you could have done better this time..

Nice, that flag really makes the photo great!

Nice range of tones. What a quaint little place.

Don't know what it is about this pic, Sam, but I like it, a lot. Definitely a feel of "home" to it and the simple patriotism of the flag hanging over the railing brings a smile to my face as well.

Bravo Paolo, faglielo sapere!

For Hugh Petrei:

those bars are useless against ignorance and cultural stereotypes. definitely.

oh my god Hugh Petrie, you smell all stereotyping! and snobby! I live in Amman, we leave the doors unlocked at night, do you (in Canada)?

I will be going to Italy next month, and boy am I anxious, to see this lively full of emotions country, as the picture shows (no man appears, but I can see them all over the photo!)

I quote Paolo

Man, Sam; I'm amazed at how people over react and get strange on my comments.

What a bag of misguided thinkers they are.

I at least say what I feel when I see the images.

I've written one on this page who has a link, Paolo, the others are so obscure that they either have no real mail link or no link at all.

What are bars for, if not to keep out thieves?

What a laughable society. May God save the fools.
