Posted by [t e r r o r k i t t e n] at August 5, 2006 03:45 AMI so enjoy the way the sun is lighting this scene! Great exposure!
Posted by micki at August 5, 2006 06:59 AMgosh, this is lovely. the ligt is beautiful, and those are some very interesting books.
Posted by mcyl at August 5, 2006 07:08 AMThe shadows on his face tell a million stories. Lovely shot as always. This one feels kind of warm.
Posted by Lucas Labern at August 5, 2006 07:30 AMGreat lighting. The shot is actually coming alove because of the light that is only illuminating part of the picture.
Posted by navin harish at August 5, 2006 07:51 AMi like this scene.
Posted by Harlequinpan at August 5, 2006 07:55 AMFantastic light :) Beautiful place :)
Posted by Kiana at August 5, 2006 07:55 AMI love the high contrast. Well done.
Note to myself: try to make photographs as good as Sam's.
Posted by Ben at August 5, 2006 10:08 AMNice lighting & toning. I really feel like I'm there walking by. Plus, there's something alluring about his pensative look.
Posted by Hunter at August 5, 2006 10:20 AMObviously, the light is gorgeous. I like how this "shows" the subject, paradoxically, by placing him in shadows and behind his hand.
Posted by alfr3do at August 5, 2006 10:24 AMwow!
Posted by shula at August 5, 2006 11:15 AMExcellent! I love the lighting, and I LOOOOVE seeing all the books.
Posted by Steve at August 5, 2006 11:35 AMInteresting to note that in Saudi Arabia you are not allowed to photograph individuals without their permission, nor palaces though they now allow photographs - of ???. Absurd nation of pompous ugliness. God forbid the world should all become like it.
Posted by Hugh Petrie at August 5, 2006 12:45 PMVery "atmospheric" — and beautifully composed.
I know only a few words of Italian but, if I'm not mistaken, the title of the book in the lower-right corner translates to "The Devil in the Old World." A good alternative title perhaps.
Beautiful lighting. Great capture!!
Posted by harrysoms at August 5, 2006 01:01 PMi like this.
Posted by effat at August 5, 2006 01:27 PMThat sun is not good for the books. Good photograph though. I like the tones.
Posted by Andrew at August 5, 2006 04:00 PMmakes me wonder how many of them this man has read...
Posted by Sarah at August 5, 2006 07:09 PMgreat feel to this shot...nice lighting!
Posted by Ash at August 6, 2006 01:25 AMbeautiful light and the moment captured in time.. It looks like a photograph of the world long gone.. perhaps also because of those colours. I love this one
Posted by Susie at August 6, 2006 03:27 AMGreat tones and light!
Posted by Abe at August 6, 2006 09:44 PMExcellent. Use of light is just exemplary.
Posted by Tomasz at August 7, 2006 12:57 AMBeautiful. The lighting of this shot puts it up there with some of my favorites immediately.
Posted by Graham at August 7, 2006 07:20 PMI really love the lighting in this pic! the way the shadows are around the mans face :P
Posted by Munchkin at August 7, 2006 11:16 PMRome is great!
Nice photo; the light is very good.
Lovely photo; the shadows make the man appear like one of those visual "see the dalmation dog" puzzles, where your brain fills in the missing blanks of the image.
Posted by Ishmael at August 9, 2006 11:53 AMThis shot has had me mesmerized for days. This is absolutely magnificent. The bookseller looks like one of the books on the shelves themselves. Ah ! I just can't capture how I feel about this shot in words!
Brilliant!
Lovely!
