Who doesn't like a good photograph of lightning on an urban skyline? A simple no nonsense narrative: man vs. nature. This ont is particularly well composed, as if the lightning was a very cooperative subject. An odd dimensional tension is created by the phantom street reflection in the forthbay of the foreground building. Top Notch Sam. Hi Steve!

wow, what a spectacular shot - and storm! It was nuts in Newmarket last night. I've never seen the skies so dark.

I tried to get a similar shot, and I did manage one, although it didn't quite meet my expectations.

Can you post your technique for capturing this type of shot? Storms fascinate me and I'm sure we'll get many more before this summer is over.

Wow - that's really amazing. I guess it helps to have a window that affords such a convenient view of the cityscape. I live in an apartment building in Brooklyn - but we're only on the 2nd floor, and our windows are coated with a robust layer of NYC grime. We do have roof access too, but then who wants to go on the roof during a lightning storm?

This is one of the more interesting lightening shots I've ever seen, Sam. You'd almost think it was a random line drawn by a kid doing lightening. It seems so unreal and abstract to how we perceive what it should be. The only line that seems normal is the strike on the Tower.

three things blow me away about this. The red light on the centre building, the lightning looks like it is coming out of the tower and the reflection in the building on the front right gives the impression of depth into the frame. This may have been said already but I did not have time to read comments 1 - 122. Nice job.

This is a stunning photo, the building's look great and you have capture the lightning actually hitting the CN tower which makes this some shot.

Other than the lightning, the levels on this photo are tremendous. I especially enjoy the reflection of the street below in the first building's front. It shows great movement with the ten second exposure.

For those who don't know, the CN Tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the world.

The photo doesn't emphasize the great disparity in height between the tower and the surrounding buildings, but I think the lightning bolt hitting the tower is likely much closer than the others, which are further in the distance.

This powerful shot is unique, but I have to mention that it drives me nuts, nuts, NUTS that there are so many lights on in Toronto. The same storm hit our city 20 minutes later (we are 90 miles east) and we didn't have our lights on in this town yet! In fact, in our house we cut all electrical use during the storm and used candles. Why, why, why are people not conserving power especially when so much electrical energy is flying around in the ozone??? I cannot figure people out. Get with the program and conserve for our planet, please.
