Wow that is a REALLY cool picture. You really are talented. I check out your site almost everyday now that found it. But this is my first time commenting. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy checking your pics. As a matter of fact you actually inspired me to take up a photography as a part time hobby next to my music. Once again Thanks!!!!!!! You truly are talented!!!!

Was she leaning back on purpose? Posing for you?

Posted by JImmy at August 1, 2006 02:20 AM

Beautiful shot, funny! My only critic I can give is that I would place the lady a little bit more at the right side.

Posted by wereldkeuken.be at August 1, 2006 02:22 AM

Had to turn my head to realise how it was done, looks as if the person is being pulled across the floor, very clever!

Posted by VX at August 1, 2006 02:48 AM

Excellent idea. I want my brain to click into creative mode like yours does.

Posted by ROB at August 1, 2006 03:15 AM

Sam you are a master.

Posted by Sourena at August 1, 2006 03:15 AM

I noticed something similar in Prague. The effect was hightened because they hang the advertisements on the walls parallel to the handrails, not vertical as everywhere else.

Posted by theswiss at August 1, 2006 04:14 AM

Wow - That is beautiful!

Posted by MOOSE77 at August 1, 2006 04:15 AM

Love the pic... surrealisted almost!
Is there any photoshop-ing involved in the post-production of this shot?

Posted by dan at August 1, 2006 04:45 AM

uh sam nice perspective. did u enjoy italy? i live next to it and i love the people there :)

Posted by sushi at August 1, 2006 04:47 AM

it is a good point with tilt the photo. it underline the speed feeling in combination with the blur background...

Posted by maytree at August 1, 2006 05:38 AM

ridiculously simple but quality effect :)

Posted by Asby at August 1, 2006 05:48 AM

Very creative and since there is nothing to suggest the horizontal plane, it seems the woman is falling backwards.

Posted by navin harish at August 1, 2006 06:00 AM

Excellent. I like the tilted angle in particular!

Posted by Chris (the Swiss) at August 1, 2006 06:10 AM

hmm.. so this is how the handrails of the escalator look at us, people ... strange

Posted by Susie at August 1, 2006 06:11 AM

What a weird perspective...but that is wha tmakes this one great!

Posted by Laurie at August 1, 2006 06:25 AM

That did my head in. I had to cup my hand around the screen to block out the corners of the photo so that I could see the angle of the escalator! It looks extreme at first but I can see it is quite normal.

Posted by joanium at August 1, 2006 06:55 AM

LOL, makes a funny image.

Posted by Chantal at August 1, 2006 07:16 AM

My absolute favorite of your pictures in the last time. This one is really great with that disturbing perspective and quality of the shot itself. You're quite an inspiration at times :)

Posted by Spyder at August 1, 2006 07:17 AM

Pure geniuous....

If you had not explained how you did it, I would have had to stare at it forever :)

Posted by perplex at August 1, 2006 07:20 AM

Posted by tee at August 1, 2006 08:27 AM

Nice job! I really like images that make you tilt your head when you look at them.

Posted by Darren Squashic at August 1, 2006 08:35 AM

At first I thought this was a people mover at the airport, now I understand it is not. Fantastic shot.

Posted by Jonathan Greenwald at August 1, 2006 08:42 AM

Wow! Really sharp and creative picture! Nice to see some non wide angle shots from you as well! (Don't get me wrong though, I love your wide angle sceneries!)

Posted by Christian Wiedel at August 1, 2006 08:47 AM

Now that's pretty cool...

Posted by Nardo Polo at August 1, 2006 08:49 AM

Posted by Pedro Custódio at August 1, 2006 09:07 AM

Great idea. What a funny shot.

Posted by Rob at August 1, 2006 09:22 AM

It's like escalator is moving 100 km/h. Nice

Posted by Zuko at August 1, 2006 09:57 AM

Haha, nice idea that makes the picture look really weird. I made this photo my photo of the day over at my blog.

Posted by EssPea | Photography at August 1, 2006 09:57 AM

Very clever!

Posted by Karl at August 1, 2006 09:57 AM

really cool photo, and really cool idea. I like how you left it the way you took it, it looks fantastic with the person leaning back.

Posted by faustina at August 1, 2006 10:01 AM

Interesting idea and good job taking an escalator shot (which many do) and adding a twist (no pun intended). Seems a little on the dark side though...brightness adjust?

Posted by CrankPhoto at August 1, 2006 10:04 AM

Nice tones. I like the angle treatment.

Posted by Kevin at August 1, 2006 10:16 AM

Great job!
I'm now racking my mind for an escalator so I can copy you.

Posted by dazedgonebye at August 1, 2006 10:28 AM

This is very cool! And I love the way you've shown the angle, by making the escalator flat because of the camera angle. It looks as hot over there as here. What a great opportunity!

Posted by talk talk talk at August 1, 2006 10:36 AM

Very clever, Sam. The horizontal blur fools the mind into thinking the picture is not rotated because we all see so many pictures like that. But the angle she's standing at says otherwise, and the brain goes, "heh?!" Well done.

Posted by Russ at August 1, 2006 10:43 AM

Brilliant! Great sense of movement.

Posted by AbsolutelyN at August 1, 2006 10:44 AM

wow, what a great idea, i have to try that out sometime

Posted by Neo69 at August 1, 2006 10:47 AM

HAHA That's awesome. Looks like she's on one of those people conveyors that's going REEAAALLLLY fast, and can't quite hold on.

Posted by Andrew at August 1, 2006 10:55 AM

Brilliant...as usual, your photos continue to inspire.

Posted by Dave at August 1, 2006 11:00 AM

Posted by Erik at August 1, 2006 11:32 AM

Nice shot, the colours and the clarity is excellent.

Posted by Craig at August 1, 2006 11:53 AM

Amazing! So simple but the technique used is genius!

Posted by Tara Pinkham at August 1, 2006 12:00 PM

Wow. The thing I like the most in that picture is the red, black and white background. It turned out very well.

Posted by Ben at August 1, 2006 12:02 PM

hehehe this is nice! i like it!
looks like theres alot of acceleration and hes losing his grip:)

Posted by Mim at August 1, 2006 12:40 PM

I like this shot. I like how it plays with the viewers perspective. Is this someone that you know or was she oblivious to the fact that you were taking her picture (just curious). By the way I'm a recent fan of your blog. Keep up the good work, it's very inspiring.

Posted by Kelvin Gumbs at August 1, 2006 12:53 PM

nice, it does like she is leaning back, but she is standing upright. cool photo.

Posted by Andrew at August 1, 2006 01:05 PM

With 51 commnets before me I am bound to struggle to find something new! I guess I will just register my positive feedback on an original slant on life. Nice on Sam. Phil

Great shot! I saw a lot of your pictures and I've found your work gorgeous!!!
My compliments,

Posted by Giordano Pisuttu at August 1, 2006 01:28 PM

LOL, at first I thought "Wow, that was moving fast, or he was trying to make it look that way." Sometimes the description ruins it for me ;)

Posted by Steve LLamb at August 1, 2006 02:00 PM

Sam, that is fantastic.

But how did you get this young lady to stand still for half a second with a camera pointed at her? Or was she with you?

Michael

Posted by Michael at August 1, 2006 02:09 PM

That's a great shot. The angle is awesome!

Posted by Dimitra at August 1, 2006 02:49 PM

Too clever!! This is a fanstastic image!

Posted by micki at August 1, 2006 02:51 PM

My first impression was that this girl is rowing a racing boat-- but then I thought "Where are her oars, where is the water?" I had to read the caption to realize what you had really done.A brilliantly deceptive photo. If this was your original idea, then I consider you a genius for predicting how the photo would turn out. A real brain teaser. Thanks.

Posted by martin at August 1, 2006 03:02 PM

Really clever, love the effect. An outstanding photo.

Posted by Ayash at August 1, 2006 03:03 PM

At first, it looked like someone in a rowing shell (crew).

Posted by delis at August 1, 2006 03:28 PM

Wicked shot, I would never have thought of doing that! Looks really surreal, they look so relaxed but in completely the wrong position, just brilliant.

Posted by kerry at August 1, 2006 03:43 PM

Well, i feel really admirative day by day...i visit your blog every single day and i do not have anything else to say that you're a really good photographer.
Thks and cheers from France

Sam when I first saw this shot I thought it was someone on a row boat and I had to double take it, very surreal shot indeed

wow nice picture --- the elevator must have been really steep, eh?

Posted by alex at August 2, 2006 04:32 PM

Wow what an innovative shot. In a way I almost wish you had not stated how you took it (or at least not so obviously beneath the photo) as it would have made the sense of bafflement that was my initial reaction last longer!

Posted by Ishmael at August 3, 2006 06:20 AM

Excellent framing idea.

Posted by AirBete at August 6, 2006 09:22 AM

I think it's very difficult... but it's a fantastic idea!
