This is just down the street from B&H, which is a wonderful place to visit.

Posted by Justin Gaynor at July 30, 2006 02:34 AM

It's on Seventh Avenue and 34th Street

Posted by Mcbash at July 30, 2006 03:45 AM

That's near Madison Square Gardens (where the big basketball is in the pic). I believe you're at 34th St. and W. 7th Ave., if I remember my NYC geography correctly. :)

Posted by Carrie at July 30, 2006 03:52 AM

p.s. It's also where Penn Station is.

Posted by Carrie at July 30, 2006 03:56 AM

Very nice shot. Did you take a photo of the B&H shop?

I'm using Canon 350d and just ordered 17-40L from B&H website to replace my kit lens. The reason I ordered this lens is because I have seen many great photos that you took with this 17-40L. Your photos, especially cityscape, really inspired me. Thank you very much, Sam.

Nice picture. The first thing I noticed was the 9 million poster.

Posted by Euan at July 30, 2006 07:23 AM

If I'm not mistaken, this is at the corner of 34th Street and 7th Avenue, outside of Madison Square Garden. For someone who came up from the Subway entrances daily for a year, the Tourneau building is unmistakable. :)

Posted by Amber at July 30, 2006 07:53 AM

34th and 7th; two blocks east of B&H.

Posted by Nicolas at July 30, 2006 09:22 AM

That's 7th Avenue at the corner of 33rd Street. You were standing near the Hotel Pennsylvania, opposite Madison Square Garden (to the left from your photo). Walk 2 blocks in that direction down 33rd at you're at B&H.

Posted by Bob at July 30, 2006 10:22 AM

Sam, this would be the intersection of 34th St. and 7th ave. B&H is two avenue blocks west of this, on ninth ave. A shame you had to get lost in what I consider the worst part of NYC -- midtown really isn't New York, trust me. We're all ashamed of it here, actually. I hope you made it to the lower and upper east side, or the upper west. It's much, much nicer in those areas.

Posted by Andy Cogbill at July 30, 2006 10:23 AM

What kind of lense did you use for this one?

Posted by Eric at July 30, 2006 10:24 AM

The tall building on the left is Madison Square Garden. You are standing on the NE corner of 7th and 34th. You needed to walk 2 blocks West to 9th avenue and 34th. =)

Posted by Jonathan Greenwald at July 30, 2006 11:07 AM

that's probably 7th avenue :)

great pic, by the way.

Posted by mel at July 30, 2006 11:16 AM

What a confused mess on the road. Nervy cop out there doing something - presumably directing traffic.

It's messy scenes like this that makes me appreciate my old age in the country. The worlds cities are a mess.

Nice capture of everyday life.

pull up the high-res and look at the street names next to Footaction :)

NYC came terribly dirty on this one

Posted by Dmytro at July 30, 2006 12:27 PM

Beautiful photo!!! The location in question in this pic is the SW corner of 34th St & 7th Ave in Manhattan, NYC.

Posted by chris tuttle at July 30, 2006 12:57 PM

Wow! I love the way that the ninemillion.org billboard seems to be the only thing that matters amid all of the hustle and bustle. Great capture

Posted by Steve at July 30, 2006 01:14 PM

just a thought, since the signs for the street corner are in the picture, but in the far background, can't you zoom in and check? Or wait until someone from new york tells you. :)

That's 34th and 7th Ave. In the far left of the picture you can see the entrance to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station.

Posted by Rebecca Krauss at July 30, 2006 03:57 PM

this is the intersection of 34th st and 7th ave, you can see the entrance to penn station on the far right

So much to absolutely adore about this image. One of my favorites from you. Almost every inch of it has a mini story unfolding for the imagination to run away with. And how cool would it be to have a photo up there, that size...larger than life...for everyone to see? *dreams happily And then, then, you went to b&h!! I have an order from them arriving in a couple of days. B&H -- photographer's heaven, and you got to enter through their pearly gates! I can only imagine how wonderful that experience was!

Posted by micki at July 30, 2006 04:12 PM

Looks like the intersection of 34th street, Broadway, and Avenue of the Americas.

Posted by Jaxie at July 30, 2006 04:31 PM

this is 34th street and 7th avenue. the little basketball you see to the left of the picture is the entrance to Madison Square Garden. love your pictures, btw.

Posted by fun at July 30, 2006 04:38 PM

This Manhattan intersection is Seventh Avenue and West 34th Street, standing in front of Macy's while looking towards the southwest corner.

Posted by anonymous at July 30, 2006 04:39 PM

Just a guess, but I'd say it's at the corner of 7th and 34th street. Nice shot.

Posted by Michael Nutt at July 30, 2006 04:45 PM

and did you get something from the store?

Posted by Rodrigo Ferrari at July 30, 2006 04:47 PM

You're looking southwest at W 34th St & Penn Plz in that photo, just a block north of Madison Square Gardens.

=)

Posted by Darren at July 30, 2006 04:48 PM

Today's photo is looking down 7th Avenue at 34th St. towards Maddison Square Garden (notice the big basketball in the shot?). An overhead shot of Google Maps showing the cross-hatch in the street is here:

so, i can't quite tell if we have figured out where this photo was taken. maybe i will be the 22nd person to throw their 2 cents in....naaaa. who cares where this is. isn't it about the photo? i would rather comment on the photo and say that i like the lines in the street. nice composition...the horizontals, verticals and diagonals.

Posted by nate at July 30, 2006 08:51 PM

Very cool Sam, love the perspective and wideangle effect!

Posted by Darkness at July 30, 2006 09:26 PM

i'm a chinese,i think your photos are great,i like it very much.i want to be a photographer in the future.
王洋,非常喜欢你的照片!

Posted by 王洋 at July 30, 2006 09:27 PM

oh boy, this is not a favorite corner of mine. i worked not very far from there for a good while and it is one of the most congested corners of the city. ugh. do you see how the markings on the street are used up from all the traffic? yes, bus, busy busy.you must have taken the picture a tiny while ago.
RV is not in theaters anymore and also there is no longer a #9 train. it was a version of the 1 train that ran only during rush hours... weird, i know.
behind you was macy*s, that giant dept. store btw.

Posted by witold Riedel at July 30, 2006 09:40 PM

Nice angle (lining it up with the intersection cross hatch) and good action. The sky seems a bit over exposed...

So B+H is around this area huh... I just ordered my 100mm macro from there, and Im all the way over in Australia! Should arrive this week! Great photo!

Posted by Mz_Skade at July 31, 2006 12:40 AM

there is not just a street!

Posted by sun at July 31, 2006 01:57 AM

You know, the streets have signs on those posts. The sign is even there in your picture. Iw as goign to say it looks like you're right by Penn Station, but it looks like others beat me to it.

Posted by Andrew at August 2, 2006 11:21 AM

I like the way you shoot buildings... diagonally
