I have been taking a lot of cloud photos recently and this one is excellent... I envy the altitude you're at in this one, I've only flown for 1 trip I've taken.
Posted by RyanK at July 28, 2006 12:47 AMNow THAT is a fantastic looking shot. That cloud is incredible!
Posted by Tanja > DoubleCrossed.ca at July 28, 2006 01:14 AMgood picture. cant wait to see the ones from ur vacation.

Posted by mazi at July 28, 2006 01:45 AMI hope you had a nice time, Sam. We all look forward to seeing some great photos!
Posted by mike at July 28, 2006 02:01 AM10 cities in what - 14 days? Thats my idea of an horror-trip. But I seriously hope it wasn't for you.
Posted by Barbara at July 28, 2006 02:27 AMnever seen a shot like this before.. simply breathtaking
Posted by shikher at July 28, 2006 02:47 AMNice view over the clouds.
Posted by Gabriel Nita at July 28, 2006 02:56 AMwelcome back! can't wait to see photos from Europe.
Looks like a shark in those clouds there..
that's a cool shot.
I really want to know: how did you take such a clear shot? On all the planes I've flown on, the windows are double-paned and murky, so taking a clear shot is difficult.

Posted by ik at July 28, 2006 03:46 AMThe cloud in the background looks like a cliff
Posted by navin harish at July 28, 2006 04:35 AMAbsolutely brilliant. As always very inspiring work.
Posted by josh at July 28, 2006 05:19 AMthis is an extraordinary cloud-panorama-from-airplane-window, I feel like I was up there... and I do look forward to whatever part of that 30Gb you share with us. do you think these clouds might go on flickr? i would love to have them on my screensaver. thank you for your work and your putting up here.
Posted by Mary K at July 28, 2006 05:59 AMWow, nice picture. Any chance for a wallpaper?
Is there a tfick to shooting good photos out of an airplane window? The photo looks great, no artifacts, and the lighting is normal.
Posted by Nick at July 28, 2006 06:49 AMgreat shot, I can see all sorts of shapes in the clouds.
Have a great weekend!
Posted by Chantal at July 28, 2006 07:00 AMawesome photo - any chance of a wallpaper sized version?
that'd be super!
I love your blog btw, check it every day.
Thanks
Mike
EXCELLENT PHOTO... No glare off the window, or did you step outside the plane to take the photo?
Really Nice !!!
Crazy looking cloud...looks like a bomb mushroom cloud!
Posted by Dave Mac at July 28, 2006 08:12 AMWow! What a cool picture. I love the textures and shapes of the clouds.
Posted by Nicole at July 28, 2006 08:26 AMI love your shots..... They ispire me. I do love your personal photos. I hope to see more of the faces of the world, your city, your life. Buildings and clouds as so sterile. I loved that one shot in N.y of the guy wih the sign about not robbing you. That encourages me. Keep up the great work. thanks for doing this and taking your valuable time to share this. Life is all about sharing.
Posted by susan at July 28, 2006 08:39 AMThat's a really great picture. I love the different shapes the clouds can make. (The larger cloud sorta looks like an alien ship doesn't it? lol)
Posted by Dimitra at July 28, 2006 08:43 AMWelcome back!!
Posted by Jodi at July 28, 2006 09:08 AMastonishing comeback photo!
Hope you had a great time away, Sam. Can't wait to see more of how you and your camera see Europe.

Posted by tee at July 28, 2006 09:26 AMThat's.... that's..... GLORIOUS!
Posted by DAVE at July 28, 2006 09:32 AMthat's a very strange cloud.. a bit like a flying saucer. I wanted to say 'good to see you back' but actually you were closer when in France and Italy.. hmm ;) Looking forward to seeing what you managed to capture during your trip!
Posted by Susie at July 28, 2006 09:50 AMI do lots of cloud photos too, but I never get a brilliant cumulonimbus like this one. Well done.
Michael
I too am dumbfounded as to how you shot that through a small, thick airplane window. Hell of a shot.
Posted by Graham at July 28, 2006 10:14 AMKaboom!
Posted by Sean B at July 28, 2006 10:18 AMFortunately these ARE strato-cumulus/alto-stratus clouds and not smoke from the airplane or a mushroom cloud with all the conflicts taking place around the world.
Beautiful composition. Do you install your own scratch-free window before departure to get such clear shots?
Posted by Kevin at July 28, 2006 10:30 AMDramatic clouds, good capture!
Posted by Craig at July 28, 2006 10:47 AMNice thunderhead Sam.
Hope you had a good time overseas. Welcome back.
Posted by Chris at July 28, 2006 10:57 AMWild thunderhead, this one. Not to fly into if you can avoid. Did you see any lightening flashes in it?
Posted by Hugh Petrie at July 28, 2006 11:32 AMyou took 30GBs of pictures in 2 weeks??!! OMG!!! i came back from a 3 week trip recently with 3GBs of pix and i'm still not done going through them all.....so good luck w/ that!
very nice picture btw.
Stunning shot.
Welcome back, I cannot wait to see the shots from your trip.
Posted by Laurie at July 28, 2006 11:55 AMwow. at first i thought that was an atomic bomb. but now that i look at it, it kinda looks like a UFO. Maybe im crazy, amazing photo Sam!

Posted by j at July 28, 2006 12:15 PMWelcome back!Great shot!
Posted by Harlequinpan at July 28, 2006 12:16 PMThat's a SICK cloud. I can only imagine the rain coming down below it. Those supercells are impressive. Great shot.
Posted by Daniel Seguin at July 28, 2006 01:00 PMWow, this screams for a wallpaper sized version. :)
Posted by Ian at July 28, 2006 01:03 PMyou found the cloud! You've been posting some pretty ordinary shots of clouds lately but i think this one makes up for it. Great luck finding this and setting up with the rising one on the left is nicely done (even though you had no control of the direction the plane was flying).
Nice grab!
I'm guessing that's 30 GB of RAW files, correct? I'm going on a 23 day trek through Europe in about a month, and I'm trying to plan my storage needs. I shoot JPG because it's faster, easier and I don't pretend to be that good of a photographer.
Right now, I've got about 16 GB of space to use, which should let me shoot something like 5,000 images. I'm hoping that'll be enough.
Beautiful photo. You've done a great job cleaning up what I'm sure was a foggy and dirty airplane window.
Posted by Carl at July 28, 2006 01:13 PMlike everyone else already said, these are amazing clouds and nicely processed.
Posted by Photoblog Community at July 28, 2006 02:01 PMI'd love to see this as a wallpaper.
Posted by drareg at July 28, 2006 03:00 PMBeautiful. You can get some amazing pictures when you're up in the sky!

Posted by shohreh at July 28, 2006 03:31 PMThis is really one of the best photos of clouds that I saw in my life!!! It’s really breathtaking!!!Bravo !!!
Posted by Denis Duchesne at July 28, 2006 03:36 PMI am sorry but your pictures are getting boring by the day. I don't know if its me keeping a track of every single photo or with time one gets out of new ideas. They're either clouds, building shot from the ground, view of the building from a top of another building... where did the creative Sam I used to know go???
Hope to see some great works from you. Cheers
Posted by xyz at July 28, 2006 03:54 PMquite a large tripod then?
Posted by photoDude at July 28, 2006 05:21 PMIs it possible to get this picture in a higher resolution? I would like it for a wallpaper. Its awesome!
Posted by Meiborlo at July 28, 2006 05:52 PMI can see sam now hoping from one seat to the next trying to find a clean clear window.. great job!!! what a perspective..
Posted by chrissy at July 28, 2006 06:06 PMAlucinante, it´s a great photo and it's a great vision. This is not usual and you have seen a special thing. Congratulation.
Posted by basilio at July 28, 2006 06:21 PMSomeone has to disagree. This is a totally tacky shot not worthy of any serious photographer. You've had your glass of champagne and... And I've seen better tacky shots than this one. The preceding 50 comments amaze me...Canadians don't travel. This said, I enjoy your blog and have enjoyed some of your posted links. Cheers. SNC
