Ahh, the World Cup. A beautiful thing. If only Korea had gone a bit farther.

Posted by christos voloyannis at July 5, 2006 03:35 AMit may have been asked a million times, but I couldn't find the answer..How do you achieve the focus/motionblur in the top picture here?
Posted by michel Binkhorst at July 5, 2006 03:36 AMi like the first picture best. So jovial they seem! Standing ovations for Italy, too, for winning the game fair and square.
Posted by PlasticTV at July 5, 2006 03:45 AMgreat italy!!!!
Posted by marco at July 5, 2006 03:50 AMWe Won!!!!!!!!!!!! And now let's go to Berlin!!!!!!! Forza Azzurri!!!!
Posted by Marco at July 5, 2006 03:52 AMVery nice shots as usual. Also, the panning is a very nice effect. I should try it some day. I love the content, some of your work has a very photojournalistic appeal to it that I admire. Thanks for sharing!
Posted by Jonathan at July 5, 2006 03:53 AMgreat serie! i think it was like that all around the world!
Posted by mandark at July 5, 2006 03:57 AMGreat pictures for a great occaision. I was dissapointed for the Germans but felt the Italians deserved it more. The sportsmanship throught the game was exceptional.
The third picture is superb, what kind of car is it?
Posted by photoDude at July 5, 2006 04:19 AMAs you always you captured the moment, excellent motion images... and a moment to remember.
Posted by Christopher John San-Claire at July 5, 2006 04:41 AMi like first shot. the rest has been done before.

Posted by moritz at July 5, 2006 05:26 AMI am very happy with this victory. Great game. In the end the Germans were no match for the Italians. Great to see how coach Lippy refused to let it come to a shoot-out. His choise to go for full attack was the right one. Nice to see that soccer (football) is an item in Canada too. Well let's hope the Italians and the French will meet in the final. (I'm sorry Portugal, but you kicked us out, so... ;-)
Posted by javga at July 5, 2006 05:37 AMWhat is that little red car on the third photo? I want one!
Posted by pete at July 5, 2006 05:42 AMit was a exciting game yesterday and i'm glad to see italy in the final game :D very nice pictures. the last one it's a bit unsharp, isn't it?!
Posted by sushi at July 5, 2006 05:53 AMVery good shots, although I would have loved to see the german flags. But congratulations to the italian team, it was a great match!
Best wishes from a football crazy country

Posted by Dave Mac at July 5, 2006 08:01 AMOoh great photos! Love the little brown car (3rd from Top). What is it? Fabulous panning action!
Posted by pixels.in.my.head at July 5, 2006 08:21 AMThe motion shots give a sense of excitement to the images and is really good at isolating the subject in what would otherwise be a busy scene. Nice choice for illustrating Italy’s win yesterday.
Posted by Steve W at July 5, 2006 08:32 AMWell done Sam. I especially like the little brown car.
Posted by Dave at July 5, 2006 08:36 AMMan! You got some crazy panning skills! Like the colors in these photos.
Posted by Maran at July 5, 2006 08:48 AMThese kids can take great pride in the Italian win over Germany yesterday. It was a exciting finish to a close match. Congratulations. Also- as I note the cool wheels these kids are driving they should also take some pride in Canada as well. This country has been very good to these kids and their parents and has rewarded their hard work and loyal citizenship with peace and prosperity.Way to go. I hope you go all the way to the championship.
Posted by Martin at July 5, 2006 09:20 AMThis time i'll start by saying "great pics Sam!" You've got the panning technique nailed down.

Posted by dave at July 5, 2006 09:34 AMActually, amusingly enough, both in the first AND second shots, the Italan Revellers are in german cars. In the top shot they're in a Volkswagen Cabrio.
Posted by Ben Kennedy at July 5, 2006 09:54 AMThese are some of your best pans ever! The first one is just stellar, it's infused with enthusiasm and energy. Great work.

Posted by Harlequinpan at July 5, 2006 11:38 AMFun shots, for sure. The girls are always welcome but I hope they didn't get busted for no seatbelts(?)
And I too was amused by the two German cars for an Italian win against Germany. Eh what?
But that tiny car in pic 3 sure looks like what an Italian would make. Love it.
But the dude on the bike takes it for me. I like his facial expression. Besides - I'm an ex long time bike rider - summer or winter.
Posted by Hugh Petrie at July 5, 2006 11:47 AMNice pics. Well done
Posted by John at July 5, 2006 11:51 AMI wished I was in Little Italy celebrating yesterday when the first goal was scored. I live 100 kms away and searched the news sites on TV for TO's reaction right away - before the 2nd goal. It was very exciting. Your pictures capture some of the excitement and I really wish someone would please tell us what the little car in the 3rd photo is? I love the thing.

Posted by Joey at July 5, 2006 06:55 PMThere is a Little Italy, but the real action after the game was probably 2km north along Corso Italia, Toronto's second little Italy.

As always, wonderful pics Sam!! They always make my day. Makes me proud to be a Torontonian!
I believe the little car is a Fiat Cinquecento.
The Italian community here in Toronto maintains a very strong connection with the country of our origin.

Italian fans celebrating about beating the Germans in Canada while driving a German engineered car that was more than likly built in the USA.

Posted by richard at July 6, 2006 03:08 PM"Italy fans driving German cars! Oh the irony!"
That's not irony. It's called globalisation. Get over it.
I guess all the fans of Canadian Hockey better drive a canoe. And eat muskrat.
Whatever.
Posted by Michael at July 6, 2006 04:01 PMvery nice series ... I just like the "italian fans in german car" :-D made me laugh
