Posted by Thomas at July 4, 2006 06:20 AM

this is so beautiful. all the shadows are amazing. an urban wonder.

Posted by chloe at July 4, 2006 06:20 AM

oh, Sam mentioned that in his comment. Me dumb :)

Posted by thomas at July 4, 2006 06:23 AM

Nice perspective. Could you post the colour version for comparison?

Posted by Steve W at July 4, 2006 06:23 AM

They look like glorified McDonald's Arches. A beautiful photograph.

Posted by Doris at July 4, 2006 06:48 AM

Excellent cityscape. Beautiful wide view angle and composition the city view with people. Lovely mono color tone.

Posted by Pooriya at July 4, 2006 07:03 AM

This spot looks so cool. I love it. It's interesting that they have the chain link barricades on the bases of each of the arches. I suppose tht means that people have tried to climb them before.

You were allowed on the catwalk? Cool!

Tanja and I will be there all weekend as part of the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition.. stop by booth Green 361 near Queen St if you're in the area and say hi.

I think I prefer this one to the previous which was excellent too. I'm particularly enjoying your work at the moment. Many thanks for sharing.

I love this photo.

City Hall Watchers has qualities that keep bringing me back to enjoy it again; thanks, Sam.
One of the factors of particular interest is your use of the arrangement of light in the area surrounding the figures. I think, when Rembrandt did that, it was referred to as chiaroscuro. When you do that, is it enhanced by HDR imaging?
Yours is better.

Those watchers should link arms and chain themselves, Barrel of Monkeys-style, so they could stretch themselves across the arches.

Posted by andy tuba at July 4, 2006 11:08 AM

I'm lovin' it!

Stunning shot Sam!!! Everything is so clear! The flagpole, Henry Moore's "Archer". As not all of the exterior lighting is on I wonder if you took this early in the evening, or maybe 1 A.M.? Whatever, I love the mood you created in black and white.

Posted by Henry at July 4, 2006 11:18 AM

Wow...gorgeous.

Posted by mel at July 4, 2006 11:24 AM

great perspective!

Posted by Ash at July 4, 2006 11:59 AM

Very good choice for a black and white.

Posted by Jonathan at July 4, 2006 01:04 PM

this sadly looks like MCDonald arches.

Awesome Awesome shots.
I'm in a new band and this kind of stuff is perfect for a album cover. (obviously i wont be nicking this but it's definitely great inspiration).

Keep up the good work.

I really like the angle that you shot this from. So vast and big to the eyes. Nice, clean night shot.

Who is this guy Maconald that everyone is talking about? Does he have a photoblog?

Posted by Ron at July 4, 2006 08:15 PM

Looks like a place Id like to be. Great shot. I also like this one better then the other one.

I've just been on a trip to Toronto and your picture reminds me of this diverse and beautiful city. Thanks!

Wow. It's a tough call, really, which of the shots of this scene I like better. They're both very different. The previously posted one is more architecture and lines, and absolutely gorgeous in that respect. This is more night life (funny what the simple addition of people into a frame can do), but no less gorgeous.

Brilliant.

Stunning, striking shot, really lovely. Well done.

Posted by andyp at July 5, 2006 11:19 AM

Awesome shot. This would look great on my wall.

Posted by Rob at July 5, 2006 11:50 AM

That is a stunning photo. Toronto has never looked quite so beautiful.

Posted by Adam Schoales at July 5, 2006 08:11 PM

this picture makes me realize i'm lucky to inhabit toronto... your images of the city showcase what makes it so great, and your views are ones that you don't see on the day to day commute.

Posted by beth at July 27, 2006 11:40 PM

holy smokes, I saw this pic on the "Official Toronto Visitor Guide 2007" front page!
