Comments: biker in turquoise

Very nice! If the shirt color wasn't turquoise I think this shot wouldn't work so good. :-)

Great shot, the look on his face is of such concentration!

Posted by Craig at June 20, 2006 06:20 AM

Sam, your ability to capture by panning is superb!
It is really amazing how sharp are the stripes of the rider's pants considering the motion you have stopped in this image.
To do this without sacrificing composition and general image qualities is even more astounding. Thanks for sharing this.

Love this one Sam. Nice shot!

Posted by Dave Mac at June 20, 2006 07:50 AM

love the speed captured in the background.

Posted by Chantal at June 20, 2006 07:52 AM

Wow, awesome outfit. Colourful dude.

Posted by A thinker at June 20, 2006 09:31 AM

Rasta rider. Yes! Colorful. But not too exciting.

Slow morning? Have a great day, Sam.

Posted by Hugh Petrie at June 20, 2006 09:52 AM

im sure he saw the camera, slowed down, smiled, and while accelerating, he saw a rabbit over the road. thats the look on his face.
good stuff, sam !

Posted by Mim at June 20, 2006 10:34 AM

I think this rider has managed to wear just about every colour in existence, save for maybe purple. Well done rasta rider!

Posted by Sean Galbraith at June 20, 2006 10:48 AM

I think this picture would be way funnier if you found out this guy stole the bike. And I'm not saying that because he's Black, I just think it would make a funny story.

P.s. The guy or girl who said, "Wow, awesome outfit. Colourful dude." That's racist! No one uses the term coloured anymore.

Posted by keith at June 20, 2006 11:43 AM

Perfect Sam, he definatley has no need for hi-viz safety clothing!

Posted by Mark Ellis at June 20, 2006 12:00 PM

Would you like to have some coffee?Sam!

Posted by Harlequinpan at June 20, 2006 12:28 PM

Keith: Sorry man, but comment is just mildly offensive. Not only does no one use the term "coloured" anymore, but nobody posting at topleftpixel has used it either!!! While the rest of us are pointing out how brightly coloured this dude's outfit is, all you seem to be able to talk about is denying your racism, calling others on this post racist (for no reason), and talking about the "blackness" of the guy in the picture. Head check?

Hey Sam, even your most mundane pictures manage to stir up quite the attention. That's talent.

Posted by Sima at June 20, 2006 12:48 PM

That girls comment was not racist.

I absolutely love this photo~

Posted by stefanie at June 20, 2006 12:58 PM

Didn't like your prev. pan shots, thisone however I like! perhaps because the background isn't excessively blurred so its not just a bunch of crazy distracting lines

Posted by Hitesh Sawlani (hitkaiser) at June 20, 2006 01:12 PM

Country Maaaan! He's escaped the jungles of Jamaica and he's biking around town, looking for corrupt officials to beat down. He's dressed in his Sunday finest. No booty shorts for him.

PS I'm racist, just like everyone else on this blog. Don't deny your racism. Accept the fact and then work on it.

great sharp and colourful capture! cheers :)

Posted by david at June 20, 2006 03:38 PM

Cool shot. Sharp and great colours.

Great shot on colors and focus ... love the stopped motion on this one ... Thanks for sharing ...

His outfit looks so retro! I love it. Great catch.

Posted by Laurie at June 20, 2006 06:21 PM

Great colourfull picture, great colourfull guy on the bike, great colourfull non-racist comments.

Posted by Paul Hullock at June 20, 2006 06:27 PM

amazing panning. i tried my hand at it.. and failed miserably. need to get to relative speed zero.. and need to learn that soon :)

Posted by aashish at June 20, 2006 07:00 PM

the biker looks like Bob Marley

Posted by . at June 20, 2006 07:51 PM

Hey Sam: You even managed to freeze the spokes on the wheels. What was the shutter speed? or was the dude just moving soooo slowly?

Posted by martin at June 20, 2006 08:37 PM

neat photo, love the blue , it pops..

the guy looks like a rasta..
way to go with this one.

Posted by tad at June 20, 2006 09:39 PM

Nice pic Sam!

I'm impressed at how a picture of a (jamaican) black man stirs up so much talk about racism! Charts of human rights people, the chart!

Posted by Andy at June 20, 2006 10:00 PM

Wow great catch! The bright colours the biker's wearing really captures attention. And the motion panning effect is cool too. What does racism have to do with it???

Posted by PlasticTV at June 20, 2006 11:39 PM

He really looks focused on what's ahead.

Posted by orw at June 21, 2006 12:46 AM

I love his outfit, all the colors make me happy.

Posted by MARK at June 21, 2006 07:45 AM

Keith- your comments are filled with IGNORACE! I think you need to open you eyes and your mind a little more, it will make you a better person.

It amazes me how in viewing this shot with everything going ... you focus on "black" and "coloured"...This is simply an excellent panning shot of a beautiful MAN in COLORFUL CLOTHING riding his bike in the city. GREAT CATCH SAM!(as always)

...and Keith one quick word of wisdom; if you have "...but, I'm not racist" in a statement, you most likely ARE making a racist comment that is completely unnecessary and will most likely offend others.

PEACE, LOVE & HAPPINESS TO ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF ALL COUNTRIES AND CULTURES

chartER of human rights.

i know a lot of people come to this site for the photography, but i feel like so much of what's great about sam's photos is that they really capture all the different faces of toronto. that's where the pictures hit me, at least. interesting how people outside of toronto, and even the country can appreciate the imagery so much without saying to themselves "man, sam tells it like it is."

Posted by stu at June 21, 2006 09:10 PM

It's the pants, it's *all about* the pants!

Posted by don at June 21, 2006 11:05 PM

Wow! This has to be one of my favorite bike-panning shots you've done. The colors here are absolutely fantastic. This is so interesting!

Posted by Abe at June 22, 2006 01:14 PM

Hey man: where's your helmet? I guess the dreadlocks and the cap are just as protective. Stay cool everyone- no offence meant. This dude is Poetry in Motion. This one picture explains better than a 1000 words why I love Toronto.

Posted by martin at June 23, 2006 05:22 PM

love the colors and movement in this one!!

Posted by Serena at June 30, 2006 01:15 AM

Everyone has commented on the colorful clothing, which does add to the photo, but I think this picture is brilliant because Sam captured a fleeting moment, and something the rider has done a thousand times in the course of a day, and given us a chance to see it-most passerbys would probably not even take note...
