Comments: the heart

and amidst all those engineering codes, there's love.

Posted by andre at June 5, 2006 03:31 AM

This is such a picture. All those codes and signs with different colours, and all of a sudden that heart in the middle or should I say at the heart of that intersection.
Sam, this picture is absolutely great. All the elements and everything. I should say your eyes are catching things that nobody else can. Just imagine how many poeple have passed that heart and never noticed it.
I bet it is still there and they can't see it.

really cool it looks like some demonic cult has taken up residence here!

Posted by Vanella Mead at June 5, 2006 03:54 AM

Great image. Looks like you will have major construction in the short future ;-)

That big red heart in the middle of it all definitely looks like some sort of engineering symbol... =D

Posted by Lizzy at June 5, 2006 04:07 AM

the heart! amazing shot, (baba to dige ki hasti!!!!) take care

Posted by Roozbeh at June 5, 2006 04:48 AM

looks like a toy set.. took me a while to find the heart although it's right in the middle :) And I have recently encountered lots of those colourful symbols here in Warsaw streets too.. maybe that's some sort of world-wide conspiracy in the making? ;)

Posted by Susie at June 5, 2006 04:53 AM

those 2 white umbrellas are cool too

Posted by Marinus at June 5, 2006 05:16 AM

Great POV. It's almost as if a kid went crazy with crayons. Instead of covering his kitchen wall, he went out in the street.

Posted by Robert at June 5, 2006 06:21 AM

i've never seen so many of these marks in one place before. and the road system here in orlando always has constuction codes on it.

Posted by aaron the bold at June 5, 2006 08:23 AM

Looks like the engineers have been out in force. I would expect this is preparation for aerial photo mapping.

Fun shot and record of how it looks!

Posted by Hugh Petrie at June 5, 2006 09:10 AM

Such a crazy image... as always, I love it.

Posted by Todd at June 5, 2006 09:10 AM

Yeah! another Bay and Edward, I love it. Bravo.

Posted by Oliver at June 5, 2006 09:18 AM

What marvelous shot!Is it "The Sam Code"?
The taxi always at the right place! Why you are so lucky?

Posted by Harlequinpan at June 5, 2006 09:43 AM

I love how there is a heart painted right on the suicide strip between the streetcar tracks.

Posted by tom at June 5, 2006 09:43 AM

cool shot... which only means one thing.... jackhammers are imminent.

Posted by nicesmooth at June 5, 2006 09:47 AM

it seems taht all the cars are coming to crush the heart that has stood up in the centre of the world :)

Posted by aashish at June 5, 2006 10:06 AM

The patterns are brilliant! It is also a remarkable photo with all the urban activity in it - great capture sam! Also, the heart in the middle is a perfect final touch.

Posted by Jamez at June 5, 2006 10:26 AM

This is a very cool shot... Love the colours. Looks like the corner is going to get seriuosly ugly soon though.. yikes.

Posted by Tanja > DoubleCrossed.ca at June 5, 2006 10:27 AM

I agree with Susies conspiracy theory. The whole intersection in front of our house has been marked colorfully where all the water-, electricity-, sewage- and long-distance heating-lines run along last Friday. But no chance for such a great overview of it like you have :) I guess we should watch out for power-outage and forage some water and candles ;)

greetings from rainy Germany!

Posted by Spyder at June 5, 2006 11:10 AM

....or some children were playing some kind of wild and dangerous game of hopscotch! And that must be the heart of downtown T.O. ;-)

Very fun observation, Sam! Thanks!

Posted by Kathy at June 5, 2006 11:11 AM

See if you can get another shot after the crew comes and demolishes the intersection to get to the heart of the code.

Posted by Kevin at June 5, 2006 11:51 AM

The two ladies with the umbrellas remind me of being in Tokyo at one of their crazy intersections. Often there would be a hundred or so people crossing all at once over their intertwined zebra crossings, many of them stylish Japanese women, all with their perfectly colour-coordinated umbrellas. I love the neutral tones you captured in this photo ... makes the bright chalk colours and the taxi stand out even more.

Very nice shot Sam!

Posted by Dave MacIntyre at June 5, 2006 12:25 PM

Looks like big bird was walking in the area :)
As usual, amazing pic

Posted by Rami at June 5, 2006 12:26 PM

And there's a heart, too. Love this aerial shot!

Posted by cathy at June 5, 2006 01:40 PM

Very cool image. Graphical, picturesque shot.Nice.

Posted by Tomasz at June 5, 2006 02:20 PM

the heart is what stood out for me - placed just off-centre - lovely!

Posted by Joe[y] at June 5, 2006 02:31 PM

Cool!

We are all wandering about in different directions quite aimlessly, Trying to find the meaning we've lost in a forgotten time. We are living in an era profused with irrelevant signs and symbols that are there just to distract us from the simple answer we need in this vague and obscure universe.

Posted by Ehsan at June 5, 2006 03:12 PM

That is quite a sight from up there. Looks like there will be some traffic tie ups coming there soon.

Posted by micki at June 5, 2006 03:46 PM

Wonderful! Great image, well seen and beautifully titled. Well done Sam, and thanks for doing it.

Posted by Ron at June 5, 2006 05:53 PM

This is a very clever shot. I love the heart! It made me chuckle.

Do these symbols foretell a traffic nightmare in the near future?

Posted by Laurie at June 5, 2006 06:11 PM

Great view and interesting subject. Marks look as if enormous birds had been trampling along the pavement or a graffiti convention had occurred.

Posted by Carlos Lorenzo at June 5, 2006 06:59 PM

looks like a lot of orange lines with wings flying across on the cement! AHHHH ITS AN INVASION.
that is insane, how many pipes and electric things are under that cement? ive never seen so many electric symbol things.
and a radom heart drawn on the center of the intersection haha.
this is really cool, the perspective this is taken is very nice, reminds me of movies. especially those white umbrella holders at the top.

Posted by hugh at June 5, 2006 08:38 PM

the colors look so happy
(:
great shot

Posted by christine at June 5, 2006 08:45 PM

what a great picture!!!! wow!!!! You find visual poetry in a comun place. You have a fan from México

Posted by sergio at June 5, 2006 09:14 PM

I have to ask... was that heart there before the engineers showed up? A very neat look at what will apparently soon be a messy intersection.

Posted by Vivi at June 5, 2006 09:21 PM

most of the time I love your high contrast treatment you give your images, this is one of those times.

Posted by J Arturo at June 5, 2006 10:08 PM

Nice spot. The heart is a great touch. Well taken.

Posted by Chris at June 5, 2006 11:04 PM

Yep -- it's a demonic code, alright. Just in time for 6-6-06 :-)

Hey, and thanks again for all the great pix of Toronto. I'll hope to visit there in August and October this year. My first visits to Canada, inspired in part by your blog.

Posted by Phil at June 6, 2006 12:08 AM

I predict you will soon take a photo of the Bay and Edward intersection with construction workers digging the ground!.... I always had this gift of telling the future!...

Posted by Reza at June 6, 2006 12:35 AM

Pretty cool. The cars look like matchbox cars :-)

Posted by Thomas Solberg at June 6, 2006 01:05 AM

wonderful angle,well done.

Posted by ct at June 6, 2006 10:15 AM

Thanks Sam for all the great shots! This one makes me think of that old game "Jacks" (or some such), and I'm just waiting for the hand to come in and clear away all the jacks and detritus in its wake.

Posted by schlock at June 7, 2006 05:36 PM

wonderful photo, Sam....I love how you manage to make the simple things in life pop vibrantly in your photos. I'm a very long time viewer, first time poster. I don't know how it works...but can we get this one blown up to a lovely wallpaper size =]? keep up the awesome work,
~Brendan

This is a great capture. The colors and lines are both so interesting. I really like this!
