I'm a big fan of your photos. Our world looks so magical on your pictures.
This very one is great too. Great light, and shadows even greater :-)
Very inspiring.

Sam, you consistently take such great photos

Amazing, really like that. I wonder what this would look like as an HDR image ?

Posted by Mark at May 21, 2006 03:21 AM

Wow, amazing! Why did you go for iso 800, it seems, you needn' have to (canon350d/efs10-22@10 | 1/80s | f5.6 | P | iso800)?
Btw, do you publish your photos automatically or you wake up really early (or is that 5 minutes after midnight?)?

Excllent Work ...
very nice shot / Bravo ...

Posted by ahmad at May 21, 2006 05:03 AM

Not a bad wide angle. I don't know about you, but I'm seeing a lot of distortion?

Posted by Jonathan Fleck at May 21, 2006 05:15 AM

As an archtect,I like this photo very very much. Because your eyelevel is just on the air-condition pipe's height, people enjoy their life in the lower part of the cafe while the upper part seems to belong to two fans which are dancing in the dark roof space.

Posted by Harlequinpan at May 21, 2006 05:32 AM

Very interesting shot. I like the perspective from this one.

Posted by Frank at May 21, 2006 06:38 AM

I love the interior shot, but there appears to be a weird distortion in the bottom left and right of the shot ? --- most on the left where the bartender is serving the lady ?

Aside of that - I really like the colour and tone of the image.

Posted by Dan at May 21, 2006 08:05 AM

Certainly gets a top to bottom view. I'm left wondering if the oval tables at lower right are distorted by the lens or natural?

Posted by Hugh Petrie at May 21, 2006 09:13 AM

ughhh too much distortion! would be better without it.

I really like this image!! Today when I scrolled down, I was met with happy diners and baked goods under glass! This would be one of my favorite images from you. There is a very warm and charming atmosphere that really appeals to me.

great angle on this sam. love the tones. you always nail it.

Wow Sam. Always good with the eye. Nice scale. Perfect speed to catch a slight blur on the ceiling fans, and great perspective on the tiled floor. And the chandalier exactly where it should be. A keeper, for sure.

Is this Balzac's Interior in Toronto?

I always enjoy your pictures.

Hey Sam, I was trying to post a question as it relates to this photo on the forum, but then I realised you locked it down. But anyways here’s the question, what camera (if not digital, what film) where you using to take that photo? I like grain like quality achieved.

Posted by Abraham at May 21, 2006 10:39 PM

This cafe reminds me of one near Spadina and Richmond... Le Gourmand... ever seen it?

Good interior shot. Nice angle. Special approach to this particular scene. I like it!

Posted by Tomasz at May 22, 2006 03:27 AM

Balzac's is love. There are two in Toronto now, I believe, and one in Stratford. And everyone should come to Stratford, because it is the best. Nice shot.

Posted by Emmers at May 22, 2006 04:03 PM

Brilliant... Nice work. tc

Posted by thomas at May 25, 2006 12:58 PM

Wow. I really like this one!

The tonal qualities are very nice--all those warm silvers, greys and browns. My eye likes that a lot. And somehow, the chandelier seems to tie it all together. And it's got just enough intricate detail to keep the scene from being completely gritty. Oh yeah.

coffee is so good there.
