Comments: leaking union

Stunning !!!! That lens is incredible...You did it again! The B&W is superb...perfect fit for this shot.

Union waterfall?
I like the lines of wall and texture of station floor covering,Two vanishing point were emphasized,But the others?unknown

Your lighting and unique compositions always astonish me Sam !

this is just an awesome picture, like the usage of your new super wide lens :)
maybee I should buy one too...

I like the statement this makes : dream of $1M tax free or face the polluted reality. Gritty stuff !

Clever shot!

This is such a great urban shot.

Looks like it's been leaking for quite a while. I hope they fix it soon.

Posted by Laurie at May 8, 2006 06:18 AM

-Yup, it is a shame the way parts of our transit system have deteriorated
-You always find symetry, -like in this shot. Even the litter in the foreground is almost symetrical
-Interesting bit of lens distortion(?) in the foreground. The little yellow dots are oval. Cool

I guess the fare-hike didn't help fix the mess...

Nice pic, once again!

Uuuh.. depressing. And therefore a good image, it certianly conveys the mood. See this and I am glad to be living in the suburbs!

It's good to see us folks in NYC aren't the only ones with sadly dirty subway stations. Great shot, looks very editorial like.

Posted by eric y at May 8, 2006 09:22 AM

Nice catch. That's Union station for you, although there are many other stations that are a lot cleaner.

Posted by jc at May 8, 2006 09:36 AM

I like the different perspective and the choice of going black and white. It seems to focus one's eyes on the drippy "Union" sign -- even the raised ovals on the safety strip stretch and point to the sign. Neat!

Posted by talk talk talk at May 8, 2006 09:47 AM

I love the perspective of this image. The tones are stunning as well!

Posted by micki at May 8, 2006 10:07 AM

Now that is downright funny. And donw the middle. Looks like a diabetics insulin bottle lying there.

Very interesting catch, Sam. Quick eye as usual.

Posted by Hugh Petrie at May 8, 2006 10:10 AM

train stations everywhere look the same, grungy.

Posted by mika muyo at May 8, 2006 10:29 AM

Too bad you couldn't get a shot just as a rat ran past...

Posted by Rob at May 8, 2006 10:45 AM

Cool shot. Somebody needs to fix that!

Posted by A thinker at May 8, 2006 10:49 AM

weird pixel correction + how could they let Unioin station ruin it self like that?

Posted by tee at May 8, 2006 11:41 AM

A brilliant shot, and a great find :)
Shame about the slight lack of sharpness giving halos to a few objects tho

Posted by JD at May 8, 2006 11:58 AM

thumbs up. awesome picture.

Posted by mel at May 8, 2006 11:59 AM

This realy could be anywhere on the london underground. sad.

Posted by Mark Ellis. UK at May 8, 2006 12:02 PM

This is amazing. So much grit and grime. Of course the ads juxtapose that perfectly - really a great shot.

Posted by Scott Murdoch at May 8, 2006 01:03 PM

wow, i went there several times just a couple of weeks ago…

someone puked, i guess? ;)

Posted by nick at May 8, 2006 01:11 PM

Amazing how the simple dirt can look so abstract even without color.
Great photo document !

Posted by Marina loves pictures at May 8, 2006 01:12 PM

Dirty sure? But so what its a subway tunnel, not exactly the Royal York. I don't know about the composition, seems kind of forced. But I wouldn't discard it.

Posted by A.R. at May 8, 2006 05:54 PM

I can practically smell the subway through this shot. Nice choice of b&w - really brings out the salt (?) outline of the puddle and the different shades of brake dust on the walls.

Posted by Vivi at May 8, 2006 07:21 PM

Ah I see that a lot... I always wondered if they accidently placed a drainage pipe behind the name of the station. Nice shot.

Posted by Raffi at May 8, 2006 07:38 PM

The b+w conversion is as good as the composition. This appears to be the red channel rather than a typical rgb->grayscale mode change. If not the red, certainly a channel operation. Good job!

Posted by Kevin at May 8, 2006 09:20 PM

simply amazing, ive been following you for a while now and this is easily one of my favorit shots.

Posted by Nate at May 8, 2006 10:10 PM

Great subject for a B&W conversion.

Posted by Nate at May 9, 2006 10:10 AM

State of the Union? A sludgy mess of liquid methane... rats, keep away!

Posted by buzzbee at May 11, 2006 11:32 PM

I like the choice of B&W - great sharpness and also a good choice for a vertical shot.
