Comments: rain on glass

Gorgeous portrait. The water down the glass really adds both atmosphere and texture.

Dear Sam, I first came across your website by reading an article on BBC news last year. My friend had moved to Toronto few months earlier and setting topleftpixel as the opening page on my browser makes me feel closer to her. This way I get to see every day a new corner of the city she chose as her new home.
How she managed to be one of your subjects, have her photo published on the day of my birthday and even have you write a special comment for me...just blows my mind!!!
Thank you Sam. Thanks Sandra.

Posted by istoica at April 15, 2006 02:56 AM

oh, i love this photo!
visiting your blog has become part of my everyday habits - but this one is definitely one of my favourites.
from my point of view - an image is good if it manages to surprise you - and this do that for me!

You keep finding interesting ideas! I believe good photography involves about as much expertise in the mind's imagination, as it does with the equipment in hand.

Posted by garat jax at April 15, 2006 06:14 AM

Simply A beautiful shot :)
I might have preferred to see it as black and white to give it a more aged feel (just my 2 cents)

Posted by JD at April 15, 2006 06:34 AM

Wow... This is one of the best pics you have posted in a while. Great shot.

Incredible photo! The green tinges would make this a more subdued picture, but her smile makes the whole thing fun and charming. Thanks!!

Do you know her? Bonus if you don't! :)

Posted by el peaton at April 15, 2006 10:49 AM

Very nice. Conveys a sense of serenity.

Posted by Kevin at April 15, 2006 11:06 AM

Interesting portrait. The red flash, likely a traffic light reflection adds, rather than detracting as I might expect. The soft color behind her head is beautiful, as she is, with the rain turning the face to runny candle wax. I wonder if the smile is the result of noticing you taking the picture. A very demure look.

Another good catch, Sam.

What a surprising idea and what an outcome!
I am sure both Sandra and Masa are now feeling great to be named and shown on one of the sites that rule the world. Lucky them.
And well done once again to you Sam.

Oh Sam! This is truly a thing of beauty .. that you facilitated a birthday surprise for these two friends, that we get to share in it (Happy Birthday Masa!), and the photo itself. It's an extraordinary shot - perfectly framed, beautiful subject, great colour, brilliant use of the rain. More of these would be delicious.

Great photo. Classic 3/4 front pose. Just a hint of a smile (Mona Lisa-esque). Exquisite colour. Rainy glass gives it a soft focus look. And a great story behind the photo. It all adds up to make a stunning photograph.

Thanks ..
