I want to see above the book sign! the legs and the graffitti! I've seen this store/shot on other blogs, and I keep waiting for the books to explode. ;)

Giant Book blowout? I like the pattern that the cone, the Light and the bin made together, but i was wonderin who's that half naked guy at the top of the bookshop? Is that what caught your eyes? 'Cose it did mine.
This is absolutely another Sam's kind of photo and certainly it must be on THE SITES THAT RULE THE WORLD.
Congrats Sam.

Sam:

Beautiful image! What I especially like in your composition is the inter-relatedness between the rather scruffy, paint-peeling upper section of the building with the equally scruffy and paint-peeling road barrier. The textures of both are striking.

On another level, the scruffiness seems so out of character for Toronto, though. The handful of times I have been to Toronto, I am always amazed at how clean, tidy, and well kept even the most economically depressed regions of the city are. In the US, by contrast, there is a far lower degree of civic pride/responsibility, and I would not be surprised to see such scruffy architecture in the very best and most "posh" regions of town (and likely with a helluva lot of litter strewn about as well).

Thank you again!

Looks like a big block of cheese in the middle of the road. =P

Not really diggin' the subject of this photo

Whenever I see signs like this I immediately think of oversized books at a discount.

wow the road thing looks like a book weight, which is awsome because of the shop in the backround! awsome shot!

I think I'll agree with Sean...I'm not so sure about the subject. What did you have in mind? I think sometimes it is necessary to express your vision...in this case I think it would be necessary, no?

Really nice shot here Sam. I like the almost pastel colour palette here.

Oh yeah! I like the composition!

Was this shot put up because of what one of yesterday's comments said? ("dare you try something new and go for irregularity and slanted lines?") I can't help but notice that the foreground is irregular and has slanted lines.

I like this urban shot. The streetlight and the concrete barrier make a great frame for the bookstore.

Ah! Decrepit, decaying cities. The scabby yellow traffic structure, the scabby store sign, posters plastered everywhere. It's an interesting shot.

Things look so neat when new, and time takes it's toll as the business tries to keep going on tight profit margins. I'm intrigued by how time makes some places age with grace and beauty while others just look a mess. And Sam finds them all.

REALLY ugly picture...not bad vibes only constructive comments here...no hard feelings please.

This is really quite good. Again, as in the cart and fire hydrant photo (a few days ahead of this one) your yellows are different, creating an interesting draw to the eye. The bright red letters in the sign and the gfaffiti on the top of the building add so much interest to this shot as well.

I was on the traffic beat, around 4:00 PM, moving down Queen Street, then I saw them, two guys, stationary, looking out the display window at Frends. I had only been on the force for 1 week, but knew a Code-9, Robbery in Progress when I saw it.

I called for backup, we surrounded the place and arrested the two manikin look-alike's and took them down to the precenct house. The Chief got me a cup of coffee, and praised me in front of all the regulars. Even my mom was proud of me.

My next job on patrol is to paint the concrete barrier. I love my job!
