Comments: stop seagull

love it! the red sign looks very cool over on the right..

The colors are interesting. They don’t look natural to me, but they sure make the sky pop. The Canadian flag is sweet, it almost looks fake.

it doesn't look like clouds will start obeying stop signs anytime soon! nice shot, the parliament building looks majestic and among the clouds...

Posted by Ige Egal at April 6, 2006 02:49 AM

thats a hell of a cloud on the bottom right

Posted by jesse at April 6, 2006 03:48 AM

beautiful
i haven't ever seen such an amazing parliament building.you know,i live in iran.you should see what an ugly one is ours!

Posted by solmaz pourabdollah at April 6, 2006 04:35 AM

this looks like it's cut in. maybe a bit oversharpened?

Posted by moritz at April 6, 2006 04:40 AM

lovely shot - like the unusual angle - who was the architect?

Posted by Andy [fotopromenade] at April 6, 2006 05:19 AM

Where was the bilingual gull going when it was stopped by the sign?

Posted by Ron at April 6, 2006 06:17 AM

Great shot! The clouds are impressive...

I like the stop sign in this photo, it tells you 'STOP HERE, WORTH TO SEE!!!'

A testament to our national defence strategies.

I love the whimsical details in many of your pictures!

Posted by Vicki at April 6, 2006 07:56 AM

Wow, those are some nice clouds :)

You always manage to find an interesting way of shooting the everyday subject. Fabulous. You've got a serious knack for post-processing clouds. I'd love to hear about your secret!

I love the stop sign!

Incredible cloud cover...they look like a tidal wave on the right!

Posted by Dave MacIntyre at April 6, 2006 10:13 AM

How strange to cut off the bottom of the building. Perhaps you took it from a spot which didn't give you bottom. Ottawa's home and I've been along there many times and taken some of my own pictures but just where you stood is a puzzle.

Not a favourite shot with me, Sam. But hey! I'm sure you have a reason.

That's a nice photo. cool contrast. at first it looked photoshopped. I had trouble figuring out the title, then I noticed what appears to be a seagull by the stop sign. Still having trouble with the title though...

Nice composition.

Think Harper can see that sign from where he sits?

Posted by cache at April 6, 2006 11:10 AM

Great sky, but I agree is it oversharpened? especially on the building.

Posted by lee at April 6, 2006 11:46 AM

The sky and the composition are awesome!

Posted by Renato at April 6, 2006 12:03 PM

nice sky. did you use a real filter? or is it photoshop?

Posted by matt Coleman at April 6, 2006 12:05 PM

nice clouds i love the sign. felicidades

Posted by Enrique at April 6, 2006 12:24 PM

great touch with the sign. I like the idea of looking over a hill at a famouse building like this.

Posted by Matthew Greco at April 6, 2006 03:01 PM

I love the clouds in this shot. The composition is perfect. I am bookmarking your blog.

Posted by suresh at April 6, 2006 03:06 PM

The tones are terrific! Love the perspective too. I'm not going to get into the clouds. Very nice, got wallpaper (preferable up to 1900x1200)?

Posted by A.R. at April 6, 2006 03:54 PM

i'm fascinated with the channel adjustments here. you've managed to create a shot where it looks like there's almost three layers superimposed on top of one another. the clarify and depth of the grass / parlaiment building / and sky look like they're taken as three separate shots. great composition!

Posted by eric y. at April 6, 2006 04:29 PM

Gorgeous clouds, took me a few seconds to find the seagull hiding among the cumulus. Its a pity you cut off the bottom of the building.

Posted by Hilary at April 6, 2006 05:38 PM

what do you do to make the skies ini your photos turn out like this? they're great :)

Wow, another great Ottawa shot. I don't know if it was a specific combination of lens and filters that you were using there but the pictures are amazing.

Posted by Graham at April 6, 2006 09:14 PM

So, when were you in Ottawa?

Posted by DrD at April 6, 2006 10:28 PM

Love the colors and especially like how the billowing cloud looks like it's about to envelop the buildings. It takes no heed to the stop sign.

Posted by micki at April 6, 2006 10:47 PM

Great shot. That is some wild sky. Looks like something big was heading that way.

Long time viewer and fan of your work here first time commenter. As a traffic engineer, I love your photos that include traffic devices. This is especially true when they are combined with natural and peaceful scenery like this. Ever think of doing a show of traffic devices?

Posted by Sal at April 6, 2006 11:22 PM

I've gone to a point where I don't even bother dropping comments...where do you start really? Just amazing work...First thing I check in the morning

I really approve of that 3 layer theory...def. looks like it.

Posted by Philippe at April 7, 2006 02:19 AM

I like the sky and I love the composition. Typical of you Sam. Outside the box. But I think you over "photoshoped" this one. The tower looks flat and artificial. It losts it's three dimentional look which would have invited the eye to explore... this one says "go away".

Posted by Moussa at April 7, 2006 08:56 AM

The clouds in the lower right look like they are on the ground - great allusion. Cool shot.
