Comments: cameron house

much, much more interesting than "wall scar" of a couple days ago,

Posted by David at April 4, 2006 03:36 AM

it's so cool.. I cannot stop smiling :) But I just don't believe that you got that couple walking by dressed in the colours matching the colours of that wall painting by sheer chance! No way! ;)

Took me a few seconds to spot those... things! You won't find me going inside that place! Take it easy :-)

so colorful~

Posted by dollarH[CHN] at April 4, 2006 05:30 AM

What is the meaning of the insects on the wall.

Posted by Chantal at April 4, 2006 06:40 AM

What a house, what a picture. Sharp eyes Sam. I Particularly loved the ants crawling up the house.
Well captured Sam.

Superb!

This building always has such a dingy, dirty feel to it.

Posted by Kathy at April 4, 2006 08:12 AM

when i was little i used to go to a laundry mat across the street from there. and the ants used to really freak me out......

Posted by j at April 4, 2006 08:41 AM

Awesome pic, I like how the bubbles look like they're coming out of the guy's mouth.

Posted by James Frye at April 4, 2006 09:17 AM

Alright, I have to ask... are those bugs painted on or are they affixed to the wall?

Posted by Joshua Lane at April 4, 2006 09:22 AM

Nice one! The people add some extra interest to this shot...love her boots!

Posted by Dave MacIntyre at April 4, 2006 10:18 AM

Cool! What is Cameron House?

Posted by fragileheart at April 4, 2006 10:24 AM

One of Toronto's very popular entertainment bars beautifully captured Sam! I always enjoy looking it over when I'm in the area.

Posted by Henry at April 4, 2006 10:27 AM

Wow, that's a club that serves drinks and (gulp) food? Talk about conflict of interests -- gigantic termites just above, perhaps advertising pest control upstairs!

Or maybe the bugs that eat there are enormous. Cameron House must serve large portions of food for the bugs to grow like that. Anybody hungry? :^)

Posted by Kevin at April 4, 2006 11:01 AM

I dont know whats happen. your photos was better before. i think that you are in a creative marasmus. I know that you are a good photographer but something its going on.

Posted by Andres at April 4, 2006 11:12 AM

I have to be honest and say the picture itself isn't very inspiring, however the SUBJECT of the picture is very cool. I really have to get to Toronto sometime, OR YOU have to come to Victoria, BC sometime there Sam.

Posted by Carl B. Constantine at April 4, 2006 11:14 AM

The Cameron's actually not a bad little venue to catch a live show or just grab a few pints.

The ants are big, metal mofos that are in fact attached to the wall.

Nice shot. :)

Posted by Chris at April 4, 2006 11:15 AM

i like the ants on the building

Posted by Jesse at April 4, 2006 11:19 AM

Check out the Cameron House website to find out the story behind those ants!

i love this place.
They play good show and cheap beers....
You have to go in there.

Posted by nicolas at April 4, 2006 11:32 AM

I wonder how many drunk people stumble out of the bar look up and freak out thinking giant ants have taken over the world?

Great picture.

Posted by Lukin at April 4, 2006 11:52 AM

One of my fave drinking establishments in Toronto... and have played there a few times to boot.

Despite the appearance on the outside, it's nothing but good times on the inside. The tiled ceiling is still original inside as are many other details.

Bands like Jake and Blue Midnights used to play there Monday nights on top of the bar and I think every Tuesday RUNWITHTHEKITTENS play the front lounge. Highly entertaining and seriously, NOT TO BE MISSED.

Oh, and the Crantini's (Cranberry Martini's) are a staple there.... just don't get me going on the apartments upstairs. It's a catacomb of hallways up there ... or was it too many Crantinis downstairs first?

great photo

Posted by Enrique at April 4, 2006 01:58 PM

Dude! This thing rocks!! I'm glad you are very good at making photos look "live"! This is really an awesome scene!

Posted by Nate at April 4, 2006 02:04 PM

Fun picture, Sam. So what if you are being photo journalist rather than artist. These things are a neat part of Toronto that deserve a little attention. And the lad who noticed the bubbles is dead right. The guy looks to be whistling and blowing bubbles is equal. Great timing. Thank God?

Posted by Hugh Petrie at April 4, 2006 02:39 PM

Wow. I love it, it's a bit creepy to think of living in the apartments with those ants outside the windows, but very cool none the less.

Great story behind the ants.

Posted by Laurie at April 4, 2006 02:50 PM

When I first saw the Ants, I thought they were fake! Cool shot though!

Gary

Posted by Gary at April 4, 2006 03:28 PM

I, too, didn't see them at first. Then I spotted only one. After the rest were seen, I was totally creeped out. A very effective photo! I don't think I've had a shot that made me jump in my worn out computer chair!

Posted by micki at April 4, 2006 03:34 PM

It's been awhile since I last commented, but this really makes up for the cheap crack from a few days back!

Posted by A.R. at April 4, 2006 04:10 PM

A Toronto landmark.

Posted by Dan Salmon at April 4, 2006 06:40 PM

Very interesting HOUSE!!!
What's going on in there?
Who painted it?
~~~VERY CREATIVE :o)
Posted by p23e at April 4, 2006 08:23 PM
It's good to see you! :)
Posted by sinnick at April 4, 2006 08:26 PM
Wonderful photography and artwork. The blue closed eyed lady reminds me of an old record album cover.
Posted by Marc at April 4, 2006 10:17 PM
Jeez... fascinating stuff on those walls!
Posted by MikesRightBrain at April 4, 2006 10:35 PM
perfect timing (:
Posted by christine at April 4, 2006 11:09 PM
The shape of the guy's mouth and the bubbles behind him worked perfectly together! Great timing!
Posted by Jeremy at April 4, 2006 11:40 PM
sam, you and your pictures make my day.
what a great artist!
Posted by shula at April 5, 2006 01:00 AM
WOW!!
Posted by megha at April 5, 2006 02:04 AM
This place must give the Orkin man nightmares :D
Posted by Sourena at April 5, 2006 07:23 PM
Okay, I feel like a complete idiot here, but I have to ask -- where are the bugs??
Posted by Abatha Tabatha at April 8, 2006 11:21 PM
This is so clever. I like the 3D effects, the face on the bottom, the people walking into the scene, all of it - it's a great idea for a foto.... well done!
Posted by Abe at April 11, 2006 01:30 AM
THANK YOU FIONA! whoever you are .... have I served you??
FIONA was the only one to give you all the goods:
http://www.thecameron.com
Find out about the ants, the art (previous/present/future).
And if you get into the Cameron House on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, check out the guy with the band of ants circling his upper right arm.
That's me!
What will it be? Wellington Lager, Wellington Pale Ale, Creemore, Cameron Auburn Ale, Guinness or Church Key Ale?
Let me know!
