Break off the harmony and the building, optimal critic.

Your photos are very good, but I'm getting bored with the photo-of-building-wall-with-object-on-the-street formula. There must be something else you can photograph?

everytime i see a picture on ur site which i eventually do everyday as its been a habit since months now for me, i get this feeling that you have this knack of feeling the sensitivity of any frame out their in our real lives....

another good shot which makes u feel that inspite of being alone out there, there is alwyas a window where you might be having ur company.... :)

Ive taken the selfsame shot - but yours is better than mine - great minds think alike?

Great composition and proportion.

Beautiful picture Sam,
You don't need to have any excuses to have a photo of a bicycle specially when the photo was taken in Oxford and it reminds us of Romeo & Juliette.
The bike, the closed window and the metal bars.

You really capture the spirit of places and it's fantastic.
Well done mate.

We've been having a great weather here in Montreal too. I just got my bike out, but I still have to tune it up first.

I like the texture on the building.

Nice. I like that you went the vertical way about it.

Great shot, fabulous brickwork, wonderful bicycle
Thanks Sam

You've posted A LOT OF images from Oxford. Time to take another vacation!

Posted by Jesse at March 30, 2006 10:20 AM

Great composition, as always.
I wonder how you can make such a huge shots.. Aren't they actually two shots put together, is that the trick? :)
Keep up the good work!

I love the polychromatic brickwork. To bad the modern North American idea of cladding a building invlolves drab precast concrete slabs.

YES- I can't wait to start riding! I get my bike back from its tune up this afternoon!

And yesterday was the saint's day of St. John Keble (for whom the college was named) in the Anglican church.

Posted by alice at March 30, 2006 12:49 PM

My old college - fab to see it again: as others have said, you've captured the spirit of it in one simple shot... thanks!

Beautiful wall, if another example of the decay of much of Englands view at historic buildings. You're your usual lucky self finding the white bike that fits with the ash grey white stone. Total marvel how you trip on some of this stuff - but it's your all seeing eyes, eh?

Posted by Hugh Petrie at March 30, 2006 03:21 PM

Just be sure to get off your bike before taking any photos. Can I ask you how you get the shot so straight (no barrel distortion)?

Hi Sam!
I *love* your photoblog. I've never commented before but I had to because I saw this comment above:
"Your photos are very good, but I'm getting bored with the photo-of-building-wall-with-object-on-the-street formula. There must be something else you can photograph?"

I totally disagree. I find it fascinating that you have so many brick wall pictures and yet I find every one of them absolutely amazing! (Please don't disregard what I'm saying because of my excessive use of superlatives; because they're excessive even for me!)

For me, it's all about the building...great brickwork, love the window, and the gate is fantastic! Glad it's warming up there for you.

great photo(:
im not sure if this is appropriate or not, but can you make a mini-game for us? like take some close ups of various and/or random things and we have to guess? iduno i just thought that would be something fun(:

A very fitting foto to celebrate the re-emergence of your bike riding. Great contrast in this one.
