Hi,
This view is very nice. Excellent Photography

Why is the sky two shades of blue?

Posted by Anthony at March 7, 2006 02:34 AM

i love how all the lines align, and how the sky is different colors in 3 separate spots.

Posted by Victoria at March 7, 2006 02:47 AM

Wow! Cool picture. Great perspective.

great art!just like some huge pencils.

Awesome colours against the mono ceiling, and then..A gorgeous blue sky to boot!

Posted by Dean S at March 7, 2006 04:02 AM

reminds me of the 80's :)

heeeey i go to that school ;)

Posted by Pavel at March 7, 2006 05:28 AM

looks a lot prettier in this picture than it does in real life! Well done, the sky looks beautiful!

Posted by Dee at March 7, 2006 06:38 AM

Lovely colours there! i didn't notice the different shades at first but now you've mentioned it, it does seem a little queer.

Posted by PlasticTV at March 7, 2006 06:51 AM

I think I like last year's shot better. But then again, I like the snow a lot. I like the 2 shades of blue here. Very colorful shot. That's a pretty cool design for an art supply store.

Posted by Nate at March 7, 2006 06:59 AM

The two blues are a little strange. Great vibrant colours in the rest of the shot though.

Posted by ROB at March 7, 2006 07:00 AM

Very cool.
Its been a good week for photos on this site.
Mind blowing visuals.
You're the man. Keep up the good work.
Absolute Eye Candy!

pretty colours =)

Posted by mel at March 7, 2006 08:12 AM

wow, what a cool place and what vivid contrasts! Looks like I'm in a lego playland or something. Really neat!

Posted by DeWaun at March 7, 2006 08:24 AM

Sam, I like the intereting colors and perspective of this photo!

Posted by Chris [57 Degrees] at March 7, 2006 08:46 AM

Tidy up time! Everyone put away their toys. Sam, you put away your Sharp Centre and art supply store!

Posted by Raj at March 7, 2006 08:54 AM

nice angle on an over-photographed building. . .

Posted by A thinker at March 7, 2006 08:56 AM

A great graphic shot. Niucely worked and exposed.

Posted by Patrick at March 7, 2006 09:25 AM

Very interesting place!

Posted by Jonas Detarsis at March 7, 2006 09:27 AM

My girlfriend lives about 100 feet away from this place. In fact, it's right next to the AGO where I was on Saturday. =)

Good thing I didn't post my shot today. =)

Posted by Jonathan Greenwald at March 7, 2006 09:44 AM

It looks like 3 shades to me... the section of sky @ the bottom is paler than the top left section... very lovely photo. excellent composition, definitely throws your perception. :D

Posted by Ddot at March 7, 2006 09:57 AM

Much better composition and color than the prior.

Posted by Kevin at March 7, 2006 10:00 AM

I love the contrast of the old and new buildings. The problem is that I like the old one a LOT more! What is the styrofoam block with the pencils stuck into it (other than unique)? Who/what is ocad?

Please forgive a New Englander - I'm more familiar with the Maritimes than the rest of your country, but you're really making me want to visit Toronto! Thanks for the daily voyage away from the ordinary.

Posted by alborak at March 7, 2006 10:09 AM

More like three shades, in fact.

I honestly hate the OCAD building, but from this angle, and by the way you made great blocks of bright colour, it looks ... not ungood. Heh. Excellent work again.

Posted by Gloria at March 7, 2006 10:31 AM

that's a cool building and a great photograph!

Posted by Ron at March 7, 2006 11:21 AM

beautiful. Was that shot yesterday? I know the weather was really nice yesterday.. this photo gives the illusion of summer or spring...I love that!! I'm also such a sucker for the reflected light effect off of buildings and other things. ooh.

Posted by natalie at March 7, 2006 11:22 AM

great colours and interesting angle- amazing what happens to Victorian homes when painted with a blaze of colour :-)

Posted by allan at March 7, 2006 11:25 AM

so excellent shot. nice use the colors.
great composition...

Posted by Pooriya at March 7, 2006 11:35 AM

Is it the polarizer filter or the lens that creates so beautiful colors?

Posted by acoustic at March 7, 2006 11:54 AM

It should be "in combination WITH a polarizing filter."

(Photos this good deserve to be described in correct English!)

Posted by forrest at March 7, 2006 12:06 PM

i work in an architects office and in my opinion that is the ugliest building ever created, if i worked for that architect id be embarassed to say it, except for the subject the picture is good sam

Posted by shane at March 7, 2006 12:53 PM

Too bad the inside is just as ugly and non practical as the oustide.

sigh.

Posted by zack at March 7, 2006 01:29 PM

The perspective is great for the photo, but I agree with Shane of the architect's office that it is an ugly modern structure of no merit. Another attempt to be different with less than beautiful result.

The split color of the sky using the polarizer is interesting. It does seem hard to believe the gradation of the sky shifts that much in so short a space. Polarizers surely do improve color saturation though they absorb a huge amount of total light in doing so. It's nice to have the option to shift to a higher ISO without changing film or cameras as it was before digital. I find the number of times polarizers are now mentioned in comments is way more than I've noted over the last 60 years I've been in photography.

Definitely an excellent shot, Sam - even if I don't much like the new place. As another has said - I like the old here better.

Posted by Hugh Petrie at March 7, 2006 03:18 PM

So original and aesthetically appealing.

Posted by A.R. at March 7, 2006 03:29 PM

Brilliant! Quite different from usual too. Love the colours.

Posted by Phil at March 7, 2006 07:29 PM

WOOOOH *i go there* heh, I must say, this is probably the coolest shot I've seen of it so far. I love how stunning and bright the colours are. Great work, fantabulous (as always) =)

Posted by Ayesha at March 7, 2006 07:48 PM

I like the checkered pattern of the roof..very eye catching. Though the sky being two different shades of blue does catch me off guard.

Posted by Fellow Eskimo at March 7, 2006 08:29 PM

this is a very good photo for these blue and sunny days in winter.

Posted by effat at March 7, 2006 09:21 PM

Amamzing colours & an amazing building!

Posted by dk at March 7, 2006 09:59 PM

I'm liking the colours and the perspective.

Posted by Raffi at March 7, 2006 10:09 PM

Great colors, Sam! I always look up at this building when I'm in the area. It is just so unusual. And this photograph even adds more to its uniqueness. Excellent work, as always. :-)

Posted by José at March 7, 2006 10:19 PM

Beautiful, Sam! I'm one of the very few admirers of the OCAD building -- I think it adds a lot of vibrancy to an already colourful neighbourhood, and your photo captures that nicely.

Posted by Soloman at March 7, 2006 10:21 PM

gasps, my school! Another wonderful shot

Posted by Jeremy at March 7, 2006 10:57 PM

Thanks for taking this shot. I've always tried, with my limited skills, but never got the right look. Yours is beautiful!

Karen

Posted by Karen at March 7, 2006 11:04 PM

You've really outdone yourself I think! I've never felt compelled to write a comment until now. This picture did it. It's my new favourite.

Posted by Mariana at March 7, 2006 11:06 PM

i never really liked that building, it seems like a bit of an eyesore in that location. however, it looks so much more friendly in your photo...i might just warm up to it!

Posted by vasta at March 7, 2006 11:22 PM

the color contrast between the blues is great and thanks for the tip, later....

Posted by blu at March 8, 2006 05:23 AM

Wow, interesting to see how many people also go to OCAD! This image makes it look very surreal.

Posted by Caroline at March 8, 2006 11:38 AM

"Is it the polarizer filter or the lens that creates so beautiful colors?"

...it's the Photoshop tweaking.

Posted by JB at March 8, 2006 12:17 PM

For those of you not from Toronto, OCAD = Ontario College of Art & Design. Toronto has had a lot of controversial architecture in recent years; the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) and ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) come to mind.

Posted by Rob at March 8, 2006 02:38 PM

Ha, wow, look at that, it’s the school I attend… I must leave a comment. I really like how the colours stand out so vibrantly in combination with the colours in the art supply store, they seem to go hand in hand.
