Comments: cat close-up

how did you manage to keep the cat so still?

Posted by gee at March 6, 2006 02:38 AM

This is beautiful. I think I will print it an show it to my cat. Or maybe I'll send it to a friend of mine who loves cats! Thanks for this very nice pic.

Posted by Flow at March 6, 2006 02:40 AM

so ... colse.

ps:
my team leader glance at my PC when I open the webpage.-__-!

Posted by dollar[CHN] at March 6, 2006 02:50 AM

awwww kitty! how cute!

I love the composition. If I had a cat I'd totally love to have an artistic, well composed photo of him/her for my wall.
I love to consider a pet a part of the family. :o)

Posted by Elissa at March 6, 2006 02:50 AM

Wow! Great cat portrait. Perfect details.

I don't really like cats (dog owner) BUT I have to confess the eyes look awsome.

Posted by Toby at March 6, 2006 03:09 AM

I don't like cats but this is a beautiful shot.

Posted by Maran at March 6, 2006 05:23 AM

Reasons to be thankful - CATS.

It's beautiful.

Posted by Ken at March 6, 2006 05:38 AM

As a cat lover. I am speechless with this beautifully composed, fine and awesome photo.

Posted by ronn at March 6, 2006 05:57 AM

Wow!)

Posted by acoustic at March 6, 2006 05:58 AM

wonderful cat, details, color, composition and close up.
excellent...

Posted by Pooriya at March 6, 2006 07:21 AM

those eyes are scarry
amazing picture

Posted by elias at March 6, 2006 07:38 AM

You shouldnt shoot cats.

Posted by Mark at March 6, 2006 07:52 AM

What an absolutely superb photograph Sam. Pin sharp and those eyes are so piercing.

Posted by Norman Hurst at March 6, 2006 07:55 AM

When this photo popped up, my mouse ran behind the computer.

Posted by pcpod at March 6, 2006 08:01 AM

Most photos of cats don't capture such detail. I feel like I need to have a staring contest now, but I guess I'll lose . . .

Posted by Lynn at March 6, 2006 08:02 AM

Wonderful colors & composition !! Suprised that you'd be able to come so close to the cat without scaring him !

Posted by Jay at March 6, 2006 08:12 AM

Strong effect 1 second, as if i was a little mouse.
Great shot !

Posted by sistereden at March 6, 2006 08:21 AM

Sam, yes cats are the most photographed subjects but I like this one, all I can do is look at how much detail you see in those cat eyes!!! Great Job!!

Posted by Tiffany at March 6, 2006 08:33 AM

its not everyday cats are photographed like this. the detail is scary almost.

Posted by tee at March 6, 2006 08:35 AM

Is this cat "weeping"?

Colours have come out really well.

Posted by Jeet at March 6, 2006 09:20 AM

That is so my cat. :). Or well considering the fact he keeps chewing one's feet all the time, my pseudo dog.

Posted by Saira at March 6, 2006 09:21 AM

It's not the subject that brings originality to a piece of work, but the artist's implementation. Needless to say, your shot is breath-taking, stunning, and original.

Posted by azad at March 6, 2006 09:21 AM

It was very very unexpected and is very very beautiful!

Posted by hadi at March 6, 2006 09:22 AM

Marvelous, Sam, great close-up.

Posted by manolo at March 6, 2006 09:27 AM

So many photobloggers and so many cat shots. What a lot of people don't realize is the difficulty of getting a image like this. Usually it is all up to the fickle model. Most times I raise a camera near any of my cats I get a view of the other end, unless I put them in a cage.

Love the sharpnes, love the eyes. And yes I'm a fool for cat shots.

Posted by Patrick at March 6, 2006 09:28 AM

Ooh love those crystal eyes. The cat appeared rather stern. Perhaps it didn't enjoy being strobed at. :)

Posted by PlasticTV at March 6, 2006 09:36 AM

Wonderful picture... I almost touched the screen to feel the softness... And thanks for so much beauty. You are an inspiration to me... ;-)

Posted by Gaëna at March 6, 2006 09:48 AM

Great shot, Sam. Just curious, the green "shadow" to the left of the face, behind the whiskers, did you add that after the fact? Or was it just how the light showed up when you clicked the shot? That green echoes, and possibly makes even more striking, the green of the eyes.

Posted by Katharine at March 6, 2006 10:01 AM

Terrific shot. Great detail and focus.

Posted by Otto K at March 6, 2006 10:35 AM

Excellent. I don't really like cats but this is an excellent shot of one.

Posted by Richard at March 6, 2006 10:39 AM

Wow cool!

Posted by A thinker at March 6, 2006 11:07 AM

Sam,

I will agree, this is probably one of the most original feline photos taken in some time. It's an appreciably unique perspective and the lighting totally makes the shot.

Great work.

Posted by Andy Cogbill at March 6, 2006 11:11 AM

the lighting from one side makes this image very special and the eyes are just awesome .. I love cats (and dogs) and when I saw today's photo on ddoi for a moment I thought that was my cat ... looking a bit startled and on his guard ;)

Posted by Susie at March 6, 2006 11:18 AM

Its great because of the crop/composition and the detail. Love the eyes. Please post more images that deviate from your usual style.

Posted by Jesse at March 6, 2006 11:19 AM

meooow!! (That's cat for what a great shot)

Posted by Joanna at March 6, 2006 11:23 AM

Fabulous. I love kitties.

Posted by Daniel Seguin at March 6, 2006 11:49 AM

Not a big cat lover myself either but this shot is fantastic. Love the depth of the eyes.

Posted by val at March 6, 2006 11:50 AM

I hate the cats but this is avery great and nature shot, perfect

Posted by Sam at March 6, 2006 01:07 PM

Sam, this is amazing, I got shoked when I opened ddoi today, I was expecting to see another shot of distillery district or yonge & dundas!

Posted by mohsen rasoulov at March 6, 2006 01:13 PM

awesome shot. im not professionnal or anything, and probably one of your last post was technically better, but this one looks great.

Posted by Mim at March 6, 2006 01:28 PM

I think you are a cat lover or hater! I love them and so love this shot...should I now be saying Awwwwwe

MeeeeeeeOw. I am a cat lover...having a 13 year old cat that has been with me for 11 of those years. Soulful photograph.

Posted by Peg at March 6, 2006 02:33 PM

Those eyes are magnificent - so clear and yet so deep.

Posted by Chris at March 6, 2006 03:06 PM

A great shot of a feline companion.

Posted by Jeff at March 6, 2006 03:16 PM

wow .. I have 4 cats, and they LOVE having their picture taken .. this is probably one of the best I've seen.

Posted by Sarah at March 6, 2006 03:34 PM

This is stunning, cats are so difficult to photograph as unlike humans they don't really like to stay still. I hope you post this upto FlickR so I can add it to my favorites.

Posted by Paul Woolrich at March 6, 2006 03:36 PM

Great shot, I wish my cats would keep still when I try shooting them !!!

Posted by marc at March 6, 2006 04:40 PM

Wow this is so cool. The first thing I looked at was the right eye, very neat! I want to make it a wallpaper.

Posted by NoLabels at March 6, 2006 05:22 PM

That's a crop ? I try to make a photo to my cats with that lens too and with the 100mm macro and I don't have that magnification ...

Posted by enric at March 6, 2006 05:48 PM

Wonderful! That is the ticket - to keep your fans guessing by mixing up the subject matter!

Posted by anne at March 6, 2006 06:03 PM

This is a great shot. Frankly, I am not a cat person, but this photo caught my attetion anyway. Very neat one.

Posted by Celik at March 6, 2006 06:48 PM

so good

Posted by noah at March 6, 2006 06:53 PM

wow, your work really is amazing. ive never seen such a great picture of a cat, even when looking at professional photographers' work. this photo is different from what you usually take, and i love it! (although i love your usual work as well) the eyes are MESMERIZING.

Posted by stephanie at March 6, 2006 07:43 PM

Nice shot, the color of the eyes is awesome.

Posted by Ashish Sidapara at March 6, 2006 09:04 PM

That is just beautiful! If cats were divine as ancient Egyptians claimed, this photograph does them justice! Thanks Sam!

Posted by José at March 6, 2006 10:09 PM

the lighting is wonderful

Posted by London at March 6, 2006 10:32 PM

Absolutely beautiful. What a stare.

Posted by Jennifer at March 6, 2006 11:27 PM

Two questions; How did you get the cat so still? And what's the blue colour on the cat's right cheek?

Posted by Mike at March 6, 2006 11:28 PM

A lit portrait of a pussy cat. Fantastic.

Posted by jezblog.com at March 6, 2006 11:33 PM

Oh my goodness! Such a fabulous shot. The composition reminds me of those wild cats shots you find in National Geographic mag.

Posted by Sharon Y at March 6, 2006 11:35 PM

what an absolutely stunning shot!

Posted by Mark Ellis. UK at March 7, 2006 01:14 AM

Tremendous detail, great composition and amazing colour, must be the best cat shot I've seen since I've been photoblogging. Brilliant.

Posted by Dan at March 7, 2006 03:03 AM

Compositional and technical mastery combined with the best of talent. Well done!

Posted by Cliff Lui 呂海山 at March 7, 2006 03:36 AM

Posted by sami jan at March 7, 2006 07:21 AM

hermosa fotografia......

Posted by Erika at March 7, 2006 07:52 AM

No its not the most original subject, but you do it in the most spectacular way! Absolutely fantastic!!

Posted by Phil at March 7, 2006 07:27 PM

I can see the tear drop. I think the cat is a Sam lover.

Posted by Boreo at March 7, 2006 11:16 PM

Yup, cats are cliché (cliché, photo, get it?) but that's one damn nice picture.

Posted by JELIEL³ at March 8, 2006 12:00 AM

Very nice picture! I have a cat myself and know it's a very nice subject.. but this one is amazing, great detail and the eyes are very expressive..

Posted by RensNL at March 8, 2006 02:58 PM

Wonderful pic! I've tried taking shots of my cats so I know how hard it is to get a good one especially one as close as yours.

Posted by Angie at March 8, 2006 03:57 PM

Posted by john k.mitchell at March 28, 2006 09:28 AM
