It's actually called the "Underground", even though most of it is above ground in the suburbs ;)

It's on the District and Circle line if that helps.

The snack machine and two persons are standing out against the dark wall in the background. Because there are no other persons on the platform, it produces some kind of feeling of loneliness. Nice shot.

I love this picture :) It looks almost comical to me - like a grand piano is about to fall down between the couple and the red box. Or that the train will go by so fast that his hat and her wig will go flying off :P

Now this is more like it! I love this picture... I love the stories it tells. The couple; the graffiti; the rail line (especially since you can't see the tracks but instantly recognize it is a rail line). And it's all enhanced by the fact you don't know which station it is, because now I can use my imagination to make up all the stories in this picture. I knew I was still hanging around your site for a reason...

This picture is so lovely and wistful, with the charming couple framed by the gritty edges of the subway platform and the urban graffiti, with the red vending machine adding just a hint of the surreal. It reminds me of the same juxtaposition of the serene, the harsh and the somewhat other-worldly in the scenes of the elderly gentleman sitting on a bench at the defunct bus stop in the movie "Ghost World."

A very nice crisp shot indeed.

Great shot, Sam. Those vertical metal devices ... are they security cameras? If they are, this shot is a commentary on the overkill security obsession of modern life. Here's this sweet older couple, apparently alone in the underground station, minding their own business and enjoying a little snuggle, while the cameras watch their every move. (But they seem to watching the watching cameras, too.) Then there's the imposing monolithic red vending machine, which certainly appears capable of mischief, also trained in their direction. I hope when they get home they'll enjoy a nice cuppa by the fire, with no devices intruding on a cozy end to their day.

i love this picture. i've been checking ddi daily for at least 2 years now, i've seen every picture and looked through every archive. i absolutely adore your work and would love to take a roadtrip from philadelphia to toronto to see one of the exhibits you're in, In Transit seems absolutely amazing. i started my own photoblog about three days ago (i know, a little late--hehe) after finally figuring out a way to get hosting and such. you are such an inspiration and i truly appreciate you for being a dedicated photoblogger. keep up the fantastic work!!

Great red color, that box! It looks certainly menacing. Shot just seconds before the attack.

After much debate on the uk.tranport.london newsgroup we have come to the conclusion that this is the Wimbledon terminus of the District line, about 8 miles from central London - the famous lawn tennis grounds are further back up the line towards London - in a more salubrious part of Wimbledon!

A beautifully atmospheric photo - although in daily life, Wimbledon is usually a much more busy terminus than this!

Very nice shot. Ideal for a desktop to keep reminding you to slow down a little.

I take it all back. Upon further reflection I don't think it's Richmond after all. I'll keep an eye out regardless.
