great range!
Posted by Victor at February 21, 2006 03:03 AMFor a while i was trying to establish whether this is a B&W photo or the scenery was just really uncolourful. My final guess is the former but whatever it is, it is a very moody shot and i love it. Personally i'd crop out (keep) just the top part. The foreground is too messy for my liking.
Posted by PlasticTV at February 21, 2006 04:45 AMStrong image. Good balance of different shades and elements. The end result is very interesting and complete.
Posted by Ahamed at February 21, 2006 05:31 AMExcellant, just wish we didn't have to scroll down to see the whole of it
Posted by Hitesh Sawlani (hitkaiser) at February 21, 2006 08:20 AMThis is my favourite kind of "barn" photo, the kind i'm always looking for but never manage to find. I love it!
all of these "somewhere north of toronto" photos have been great. i just realised that this series' name has an unfortunate acronym.
Posted by schmee at February 21, 2006 09:33 AMgreat evocative shot
Posted by AndyM at February 21, 2006 10:14 AMIMHO: The sense of vignetting from the clouds frames the scene very well and moves the focal point to the barn. The monotone is very adequate. Under the contrasting conditions of this shot, and the extended dynamic range of the scene, it is very difficult to achieve a balanced exposure, this is almost perfect because I can see the detail in the snow, although I would prefer a nit less light on top of the barn.
Overall, merit is excellent. Not an easy shot at all, and you got it exactly right.
Daily visitor, often silent.
VelviaPix, feeling of color.
Cold....barren....BEAUTIFUL!
Posted by D MacIntyre at February 21, 2006 11:22 AMIs this up Keele street perhaps? There are some AMAZING barns and abandoned houses and stuff up there. Even an old old fire truck and farm equipment.
Love it. Great light throughout the shot.
Posted by John at February 21, 2006 12:25 PMGreat barn Sam....nicely exposed...love it!

I love old barns like this in B & W. The snow and sky just add to the drama. I like it alot.
Posted by RyanT at February 21, 2006 02:17 PMI've seen this before ... Barn gets angry, Car dies.

Posted by Roozbeh at February 21, 2006 02:23 PMSam, is this the same place where you should be watching out for "Tractor-man"? (from Dec.07/05)
Posted by Jim at February 21, 2006 04:16 PMThat's a beautiful B&W. I favored the bright whites of the foreground.
Posted by Micki in Virginia at February 21, 2006 05:55 PMThis is a great B&W snow shot. Wonderful choice for such weather. The gray clouds give a nice background. Better than the clouds here that have been solid light gray. All one color.
Posted by Nate at February 22, 2006 11:16 AMLove all the shapes buried under the snow.
Posted by Phil at February 22, 2006 02:42 PMSam,
I've been looking at your images for quite a while. Some are really good, others are very average. I think you really missed the boat on this one. Why have you included all the junk in the foreground? This image is much more powerful if you crop it about half an inch below the bottom of the barn. Simpler is always better. I think that a little bit of criticism is good because most people who comment are impressed no matter how good or poor an image you post. In any way, keep up the good work.
This shot looks familiar, somehow I think I have taken a picture of this barn myself.
