Comments: wrapped porsche

Great photo! (But still, my personal opinion is that the Cayenne looks better on this photo than unwrapped. ;))

Funny :o)

Its good to know they protect these things in transit. As much as they cost, they should be wrapped in gold! Love the sky and clouds.

Such a silly subject for the photo. I am not sure which country you are coming from, but in here all the high-end cars come wrapped to prevent potential scratches while transportation

Hmmm... I've seen this in the Discovery Channel. These kind of "wrapped" cars usually is a prototype and they are just taking it for a test drive. Hehehe.

Hey, nice shot, lovely colours. Isn't that an in-development vehicle going on a road test?

Posted by Nick McGee at February 12, 2006 09:31 AM

is someone actually driving this car?

Posted by mariann at February 12, 2006 09:45 AM

wow - lovely again.. the clouds really get my eye here !!

Hi Sam, I've enjoyed your site for a several years now, thanks to my uncle in TO for introducing it to me. I live in a Detroit suburb and drive approximately 90 miles round trip to work. About three or four times a year, I will see a vehicle "under wraps". These cars are being driven, and if you get up close, you can see they are full of digital test equipment. The auto manufactures keep them covered to "hide" their appearance because they are future models which have not been introduced yet. Today's pic reminded me of those times. This Porsche is probably wrapped for protection on its way to the dealer. Thanks for all your great shots, never miss a day.....fps in Lake Orion, Michigan

Like it.. all it needs is a ribbon on top..

Looks like a Porsche Cayenne to me, though... So it's not a 'real' Porsche.

It looks like a shroud for a car-bomber in our conflict-ridden world.

The clouds are beautiful in this photo!

the good point about receiving your car in wraps is that you can pay for a lousy peugeot 206 and claim it's a 911!

Posted by arash at February 12, 2006 02:25 PM

Kind of looks like the driver has his window flap rolled up and is driving the car with his head out the window. Watch out, here comes a speeding Hummer!!!

Posted by Sean at February 12, 2006 02:46 PM

I think Kikkomann and others are right - this seems like some kind of test mule, used to test future equipment or perhaps a brand new model of car. I do hope the holes in the front were large enough to allow its engine to "breath"! ;-)

Very candid shot, and though not really spectacular, you never seem to take a 'bad' picture.

The paint job on a 911 is a lot of money and it only takes one street jerk to mess it for the customer.

No you're all wrong,its a blow-up car!
great shot Sam.

"WARNING: Remove wrapper before driving."

Posted by Kam at February 12, 2006 07:54 PM

When I first saw this I immediately thought "prototype", but given the fact that the body appears to be identical to the standard Cayenne, it's not a prototype, unless it has that exotic new turbo V8...but they would need to keep something like that under wraps.
I've never seen a prototype in Toronto, and it just wouldn't make any sense (too many people to see it).
In short, the lengths Porsche appears to be going to in order to satisfy the buyer are impressive.
And I love the conposition in this one. To interestingly compose a picture with an interesting subject is impressive.

Hello, dont you people read what he wrote? He clearly stated that this vehicle just came off the truck at the dealership. You can even see other Porsches in the backround.

Now that's what I call paint protection! Nice find!

It is wonderfull!
(太精彩了!)

Posted by JoyCheng at February 12, 2006 10:55 PM

These comments all make sense. Isn't a new version of the Cayenne comming out, I believe it is the new Cayenne Turbo S . The name means nothing to most people, but its $157k starting price certainly has its impact.

Posted by RRo at February 13, 2006 12:22 AM

This looks like a commercial for Peugeot. :)

Posted by PlasticTV at February 13, 2006 05:18 AM

The muted color scheme reminds me of Stephen Shore (though the perspective is much different).

I understand safe driving, but a car condom seems extreme.

The comment on the "Safe Driving" by John Johnson was just as priceless as the picture. Nice to see you do candid shots too Sam. Keep it up.

I'VE KNOWN HIM FOR YEARS.... HE ALWAYS DOES GREAT. GO SAM GO...

Posted by FARAMARZ at February 17, 2006 01:21 AM

This is quite amusing - I agree. Great timing to capture this.

Cool picture. Im a Toronto car nut, so I thought I'd drop a line:
This is not a prototype (or mule as they are called). This is just a brand new Porsche Cayenne being delivered.
German cars ussualy come in protective wrapping to prevent damage durring shipping. Audi does the exact same thing.

Speaking of cars, Sam, are you comming to the Canadian International Autoshow? Plenty of good photo ops to be had.

Love your pics, keep up the good work!
