This is fantastic! So, I'm assuming that is you and you're showing your photos? What a great idea.

Posted by Eric at Paris Daily Photo at February 2, 2006 12:51 AM

I was there, it was really good Sam. I asked about Macs vs. Windows. I'm a student photographer applying to Ryerson and sport a 350d as well. The one thing that I really learnt was to take your time when shooting. To wait a couple minutes till something happens. I also enjoyed your photoshop tutorials. Night well wasted. You should really have a lecture with photoshop and tips just for photographers; that would be truly awesome. Anyways, good job.

Posted by denMAR at February 2, 2006 12:55 AM

Great job tonight at the lecture. Thanks for sharing some of your finest work. I would love to hear more about photo manipulation and colour correction in the forum. The pumpkin photo is a good one to start with. Keep up the good work.

Posted by Chris at February 2, 2006 12:57 AM

There I am! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay at the back. Indeed, you did a very good job, Sam! It was very interesting to hear some of the stories behind your photos, and to hear how you went about taking them. I admire your talent, insight and ethics. Thanks for sharing with us!

And I want to know if any of the many people there who were taking YOUR photograph asked your permission! ;-)

Posted by Kathy at February 2, 2006 01:04 AM

Sam the lecture was great. It had great tips and amazing insight to your work. It wasn't boring at all and was quite funny at times. Me and my friend agree that it would be great to see another one (if you're up for it I mean). Anyway. It was a great time and I'd for sure come out again.

Posted by trevor at February 2, 2006 01:05 AM

Full house, great job!

A friend and I were planning on going, but got held up at the CIRA's 'special meeting' which went way over.

I'm sure you've gotten yourself a bunch of new subscribers.

I was curious if you were already a member of that camera club, or another? My wife recently joined one of the local clubs, but she didn't really look into alternatives, just joined the first one she heard about.

Posted by Chris Nolan.ca at February 2, 2006 01:06 AM

please say more about this lecture and what about ?

Glad to hear the lecture went well. I would have loved to be there, but had a previous commitment. I'm looking forward to some nice U of T campus shots... :)

Sam, thanks for speaking at Hart House last night. You were great, and it was nice to finally meet you in person.

Cool also this pic - I was dying to see the result of that wide angle lens. Much different from the pic I posted of the event (photo.jamestilberg.com).

James
(PS - I was the guy in the front row - far right with the long lens...)

Posted by James at February 2, 2006 01:42 AM

Sounds an amazing turn out... Congratulations Sam... You are doing great.

Posted by Reza at February 2, 2006 01:43 AM

WoW, I can see myself standing in the back. I am a little bit late :(

Posted by Dan at February 2, 2006 02:08 AM

anyway, nice photo, REALLY nice hall, wish i could have been there

Posted by moritz at February 2, 2006 02:40 AM

WOW! Congratulations! Looks like the place was packed, you're a celebrity!

Posted by Manuel (SF Daily Photo) at February 2, 2006 03:05 AM

any recordings of the talk available? :-) Let the worldwide audience benefit from the knowledge sharing.

Posted by ashwin at February 2, 2006 03:07 AM

Hey sam,
Though I only caught a bit at the end, the five minutes of your presentation that I did hear was worth it. Don't be surprised by the audience, I suspect that more would have come if they were in the area.

Posted by selam at February 2, 2006 04:14 AM

Wish I could have heard you giving that lecture.

Posted by Susie at February 2, 2006 05:34 AM

glad it went well! Hope that next time your there I won't be out of the country!

Posted by Tawejea at February 2, 2006 06:57 AM

I see myself :-)

Great lecture last night, Sam. It was a pleasure to finally meet you.

Posted by Sean Galbraith at February 2, 2006 07:22 AM

You were great. Maybe now I will be able to update my blog regularly.

Posted by Krishna at February 2, 2006 07:24 AM

never been a friend of blurry edges but great perspective nonetheless - how typical of you to take a picture right before the lecture I wish I could have attended.

Posted by Neo69 at February 2, 2006 07:59 AM

Well done on the speach, and nice shot. Is that someone taking a picture of you, front right? What sort of questions did you get?

Posted by garyx at February 2, 2006 08:37 AM

We came. We saw. We loved it! My wife made it into this pic, but i'm hidden behind someone in the first row ;)

It really was a great night. Very informative and inspirational. Met lots of people who share the same passion in both your work, and in photography/photoblogging.

I hope you'll consider doing something like this again.

Cheers!

Posted by dave at February 2, 2006 09:44 AM

Hey Sam, would have been there if I'd been in Toronto. Maybe next time--great job.

Posted by A thinker at February 2, 2006 09:46 AM

Damn, I'm so mad I missed this! Especially because if I had gone, my bike wouldn't have been STOLEN while I was stuck at work! Plus I would have been able to shoot spit balls at you. Grrr. Glad you had fun.

Posted by Scott Murdoch at February 2, 2006 09:48 AM

Great talk. Content was excellent, images of course were fabulous as always.

Based on what I saw, you would be an excellent presenter for CHUM ideacity event...someone should make the connection and get you on the list of presenters. Same talk just polished and expanded a bit.

Later.

Posted by ZuggZugg at February 2, 2006 10:15 AM

so upset i missed it sam. silly classes getting in the way.

i told all my friends about it, and a few of them went and were wowed by the presentation. congrats!

Posted by Vasta at February 2, 2006 10:38 AM

Hey Sam, AWESOME talk last night... Glad I got to show you the t/s lens... You know you waaaaant it. I learned some really useful tips from your material. Thank you for sharing your gift!

Hey Sam! Was this photo colour corrected? hahah

I got a little write up on my blog as well.

Looking forward to going out shooting with you!

Posted by Duarte Da Silva at February 2, 2006 11:44 AM

Love this pic. The glow of the computer screen and the lights, the slightly blurred edges, the soft light throughout -- good job!

Posted by Cathy at February 2, 2006 12:31 PM

Sam,
If ever you give a lecture on the weekend, I will drive from Montreal to attend it.
Any chance of getting a transcript of the lecture you gave last night? I'm willing to type it up if you want. I'm thrilled at your success and will watch your career with great interest.

Sam --
Thank you so much for sharing your time and expertise with us. A lot of photoblogs were born because of DDOI's inspiration, and I know mine is one of them.

Toronto is really lucky and privileged to have you photographing our streets.

May you get your dream camera someday!

José :-)

Posted by José at February 2, 2006 01:30 PM

Ahhh! Wish I could have been there. Maybe you could post your notes??

Thanks for the visual stimulation!

Congratulations & congratulations! ;)

Posted by Roozbeh at February 2, 2006 04:05 PM

Oh, I would have so loved to be there... ironically, I was actually in HH all night, but have sold my Wednesday nights to the hart house chorus and thus couldn't attend (right... down... the hall! gah!).

I did manage to walk past during our break, though -- what a full house! We had to step over people in the hallway to get past.

Hope to see some more HH pics :)

what a lice little hall, i love the wood ceiling and the podium (great contrast with old (vaulted ceiling, wooden podium/ computer). Congrats, I hear it was excellent!

Posted by kevin at February 2, 2006 05:15 PM

That was an awesome lecture Sam! It was funny, informative, and entertaining. I learned quite a few things from your great tips. I'm glad that I could finally meet you and I look forward to viewing more of your great work. You should really do another longer lecture some time soon...it was a great success.

PS: I could see myself in the back lol:)

Posted by NoLabels at February 2, 2006 05:40 PM

hey sam

just wondering what program you were using during that presentation, i've been looking for a good photo management program for awhile

Posted by e_m at February 2, 2006 08:30 PM

Great night, great lecture, great place. Thanks !

Posted by Ninjaess at February 2, 2006 09:01 PM

Hey Sam!

Interesting lecture, as noted by everyone else :P your sense of humour comes through on daily dose, but it was great in person.

Amazing to get to hear about some of my favourites of yours. In one of Sagittarius_Canada's shots I can see my back.. haha

The only thing I regret is not bringing something to show you.. last year you gave me permission to use some of your ttc shots for my layouts. Next time, though!

Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Caroline.

F---. I missed it. Really wanted to come.

Congratulations Sam,
I wish I could be there, but England wouldn't let me go. I read all the comments and saw all the pictures taken. There is something in your photos nobody can say it, but everybody can see it. I am saying this as a result of comparing other's pictures taken at the same night. Looks like you weren't there to lecture, but to take pictures again.
What a privilege to be your oldest classmate.
Keep up the great work.

I wish I could have attended, Sam. Great shot here - I like the blur on either side.

Vraiment cool tes photos, j'espere que tu va devenir celebre! quelle chalenge!!!

Posted by nic at February 4, 2006 10:13 PM

what lens did you use here? i absolutly love the blurriness of the edges!

Posted by Victoria at February 6, 2006 05:10 AM

Is this is your laptop in the photo? I have the exact same one (Toshiba Satellite). Too bad I left Toronto last September so I wasn't able to attend your talk (Was a Hart House Camera Club member for two years while studying Philosophy at U of T).
I'll be back to Toronto in 2007. If you still there I might attend your future events. I'm one of your biggest fans.
