Posted by ber at February 1, 2006 01:07 AMvery nice pic. makes me miss home.
Posted by ber at February 1, 2006 01:07 AMCool pic. I've never seen the a subway station in quite this way. Interesting to note is the trash bin is the same design as one from an earlier ddoi photo of a big pile of these. I thought they got rid of all of them for terrorism reasons.
Posted by Graham at February 1, 2006 01:15 AMI like how the ceiling materials point toward the centre of pic, drawing my eye to the doors. It helps alot that the ceiling is unfinished. As always a great shot!
Posted by Ron : Threeflavours.ca at February 1, 2006 02:33 AMI continue to marvel at how you take the everyday sights and scenes in this city, and give them a fresh twist or angle. Please venture east on the subway line sometime, and cast your lens on the neighbourhoods just north and south of the Danforth on the other side of the Bloor viaduct. I'd love it if you could make East York look this amazing!
Posted by Vicki at February 1, 2006 08:06 AMGreat shot! I love the lines and the symmetry. I like the red in the door, too!! I would like to see in black and white but I wonder if it have the same character. This is a fun shot! Great find!
Posted by stephanie at February 1, 2006 08:24 AMInteresting photo Sam.. I like how the image pulls you towards the doors.
Posted by Chris [57 Degrees] at February 1, 2006 08:26 AMI thought I stepped into a teleporter when I saw this one! This is my subway station that I get off at when coming to work (700 University - OPG Building). This is a nice shot! I'm going to try and stop by the lecture.
Posted by D MacIntyre at February 1, 2006 08:32 AMVery cool. Love the lines you've captured. I also love the different coloured doors at the end of the shot. Man, you've subway stations are hot compared to Mtl's!
Posted by Dan :: genestho.ca at February 1, 2006 08:36 AMDefinitely looking forward to the lecture tonight! This day can't go by fast enough...
I wonder how many people will be posting their shots of Sam after tonight?? Assuming this is a camera-friendly event of course ;)
Posted by dave at February 1, 2006 09:57 AMspaceship!
Posted by Aaron at February 1, 2006 10:01 AMI like the symmetry of this photo, even strangely enough evident in the missing ceiling tiles near the wall, and the greyness of it all, which makes the tiles look good (an achievement!) and focuses your eyes on the doors. I hadn't noticed those tiles before, probably because I'm usually too busy thinking how late I am in getting to my destination!
Posted by talk talk talk at February 1, 2006 12:08 PMVery nice, I'd love to see more subway pictures from you.
Posted by Eric at February 1, 2006 03:15 PMThe red door gives this photo that spark. I voted for you to win the bloggies, you deserve it. Best of luck. If I can make it, I will surely drop by your lecture.
Posted by NoLabels at February 1, 2006 03:18 PMto me it seems that the light from the halls on the left take all the light out of the door on that side; while the red door has all the light from the right side.
great shot

Posted by John Piercy at February 1, 2006 04:29 PMHey, let's all post our pics of Sam tomorrow. Great idea! And make sure to comment here if you do...
Posted by James at February 1, 2006 04:46 PMit reminds me a lot of the underground in london. and the pic is a sensational perspective.
Posted by hellolizzie at February 1, 2006 04:55 PMThis picture looks great... but it makes the old, dirty and under-maintained TTC subway stations looking good.
I guess that's the magic of photography.
Posted by meta at February 1, 2006 05:22 PMLove the symmetry of this one Sam.....I love the beauty of the ordinary. Cool, Phil
Posted by [t e r r o r k i t t e n] at February 1, 2006 06:47 PMWoah... nice. =) Ceiling, symmetry, and that red on the door - very cool.
Posted by Namira at February 1, 2006 07:51 PMI wonder if anyone new to the station is ever confused - even for a moment - by the odd juxtaposition of the signs: southbound, northbound and the relative gray and red doors. I'm sure there's no relevance, but is that line on the floor relative to a temporary wall that comes out of the gray door? That's what I'm left wanting to know.
Posted by Hugh Petrie at February 1, 2006 08:22 PMThank you for a very well done presentation at Hart House today. I appreciate the effort you put into DDOI. With your lecture, it's like putting a name to a face- the pictures have an additional layer of meaning that makes your photoblog even more enjoyable. Hope to run into you some time!
Posted by Brian at February 1, 2006 09:19 PMI'm guesing that there is a train pulled in on the left hand side ... the reason behind the light source on that side??
Love your site, Sam. I have become quite addicted! Living in the Toronto area myself, I know that this city of ours has many, many wonderful things to photograph ... but I especially enjoy your take on the everyday sights that we all take for granted.
Hope you enjoyed your evening at Hart House ... I am sure you were well-received!
Posted by Fiona at February 1, 2006 10:25 PMwould love to come to the lecture but we are just too far away...we are way up in the northern bush and really enjoy seeing your great photos of the big city
Posted by ks at February 2, 2006 12:11 AMHey Hugh,
The line on the floor is for the blind. They can find the tiles with a cane due to the different texture and follow it to the exit.
Sam,
I'm sure you've heard this before.. You are an inspiration! I TRULY wish I could have been there to hear you lecture.
The next time your going to an event like this, PLEASE, please let me know by email =) Let's call it the WVSEVENTS email =). I snapped my fingers the second I read this post and realized that the event had already passed.
Looking forward to your next post.
Marc
I like the colors and lines here - very symmetrical and clean. Great shot!
Posted by Abe at February 4, 2006 05:05 PMI see that some people have said they love your ability to take the ordinary and make it so attractive suddenly. I live in Nags Head NC USA... for me this is not the ordinary, but very different. I like it.
