Now that thing stands out BRIGHT! Very nice, as always. I like the green door being close by too.

Great photo!

This is another building that's just waiting to get cleaned up and turned into condos or an office. Great stuff!

Could be fab if restored.

This building is actually going to be a new Loblaws (grocery store) soon.

That's the old Loblaw building, and art deco wonder if you ask me.

There are grand plans to restore it and put in a grocery store. (surprise surprise).

an awesomely great composition with a beautiful yellow bin there :)
wow..

It (the hydrant) just doesnt realise how much it brightens up that small area.

Posted by Phil at January 31, 2006 03:11 PM

I think this building was a Loblaws warehouse once upon a time, and indeed the Daily Bread Food Bank lived there until a couple of years ago. I wish they would restore it to something more interesting than a store. Wouldn't it be nice to restore a building just for the sake of the beauty of it? Alas, no one can afford to do so.......

Anyway, I've always loved this building, even in its dilapidatedness. Thanks for taking a nice photo of it, Sam!

I love this photo. It brought back memories of when I was a little girl and my grandmother would take me downtown (Cleveland) to the west side market.

yellow hydrant makes it?

Posted by michael at January 31, 2006 11:47 PM

A grocery store? What a shame...I see it as a set of loft apartments, but I don't know the building or the neighborhood so who am I to say?! I do love the little fire hydrant sitting all alone waiting to be noticed!

Actually I'm glad to hear it will be made into a supermarket. At least the building will be made available to the public to view inside and out, rather than another million-bucks-a-shot loft complex. Toronto has enough of them already.

Great Composition!!! The Yellow hydrant in an almost B&W background looks awesome. Nice Idea Sam!!!

Ahhh this reminds me of my days going to work. I'd pass this twice a day. Good shot.

I like the stark nature of this shot - nice urban shot.

In the late 80s I lived up the street from this place. Someone told me that as a result of Loblaw's refusal to sell the site, the Gardner Expressway was elevated. This of course raises other issues.

Any info appreciated
