What a clear shot, I love the composition and the textures. You never run out of great subjects!!!

Love the colors and the contrasts. One of your best pictures in a while.

The sky is gone, and the Gardiner is out. Why?

Brilliant view!

great shot sam, but why ISO 200 and P mode?

Posted by shane j montgomery at January 27, 2006 10:33 AM

Hahah just my luck. I practically live at Hart House, but the day your coming is 3 days after I've left the country for 6 months. Good luck tho!

Posted by Amanda at January 27, 2006 11:02 AM

yeah, where did the sky go?

Posted by kevin at January 27, 2006 11:07 AM

I love the look of this shot. Great work

I really like this shot. Very nice. Reminds me of the clock in Gastown, Vancouver. I love the color, the saturation, the overcast-grey sky and the clarity. Really nice job.

The sky is blown probably to get metering of the dark bricks? I guess he could have used a double exposure and merged them.

Are you sure the Gardiner is in view from here?

Hey i finally got the guts to comment ya. i would come to the public lecture but i live in Altamont Kansas so that tells ya why im only a junior in high and ive bragged to every one about this web. i actually found it on accident!

Posted by nick at January 27, 2006 11:38 AM

are you serious? wednesday?? the ONLY day i have work?....and when you are at a place SO close to my classes? sigh. but have fun with that anyway :)

Posted by Julia at January 27, 2006 11:57 AM

My favorite in a long time. Great shot, great composition.

How totally strange. I've never seen an outdoor clock like this in Toronto. Looks more like a British scene with old decrepit buildings. I guess they're really serious about getting back to work on time around there.

Color variations in stone are a groove. The sandstone building has these odd spots on it which puzzle me as to purpose. Some almost look like clock faces themselves.

very good sharp and composition...

Another excelent shot sam, texture and light excelent. Wish I could go to the lecture but am stuck in a very damp and missrible UK!

the tower - tall?? nah!
i really liked those green things put on the building at regular distances.
nice composition btw !

Speaking of Hart House, I think you should bring your camera along when you go to the lecture and snap some shots of the U of T campus. I'd love to see what you can do with those beautiful old buildings (although summertime is probably better)!

This is the first time I've ever wished to live in Toronto. I would definitely love the chance to hear your lecture. Best of luck!!
Find a way for us "out of the area" people to get an idea of what was covered at the lecture, etc..
*goes to pout now*

Lovely, I can feel the bricks -just looking at this textured photo - - thanks.

Posted by BC at January 27, 2006 08:50 PM

Unusual request, but could you have it taped by someone and then distribute it through bittorrent? (or whatever suits you)

For us living on the old continent, getting there on wednesday is kinda of a no-no ;)

agh! I have class at 7:30 next wednesday! there is, however, a potential I will skip it and come by to say hi... class ends at 8:20 - how long do you think its going to take (the lecture)?

Posted by amanda at January 28, 2006 01:47 PM

I'm pretty sure I don't have class at the time so..
I'll be there :D

Posted by pketh at January 29, 2006 12:56 AM

You should go by the ROM before or after the lecture and take some pictures of the construction of the new addition. The facade is finally being put into place. You should capture some of the future TO architecture.

I dig your brick shots, Sam. No one does them as well as you do. Very nice perspective. I see no perceptable distortion from the wide-angle.
