It was an excellent idea to combine the wet streets and the lights of the city. The lights of the offices of the buildings create a perfect pattern. Great work as always! : )

Hey Sam, great shot... how do you keep the camera dry? do you have something specific for that purpose? I've been looking for something so I can do shots in the rain, but have been unsuccessful so far.

I was at that very spot about 2 weeks ago... with fog all around the tops of the buildings, but forgot my tripod in London... damn! lol.. great work man

There's some interesting dynamics in this photo. I like it!

I've seen a lot of photoblogs, but this one is by far my favorite. It's because of simple pictures like this that carry a little bit more meaning than other people's that this blog is my homepage.

Thanks :)

nice shot. it looks like the Canadian flag is floating in mid-air. only upon a closer look can you barely see the pole it's attached to.

Posted by gee at January 19, 2006 03:28 AM

That is a whole lot of light! Great composition with a car each side of the framing. A real DDOI classic I would say.

Great photo! very nice!

Excellent shot, but i wouldn't want the electricity bill for this one!

Super photo!

I love this shot! I think it's all the office lights and the colour and the clarity. Nice shot Sam. Good luck at the gallery, (show opens today, correct?) wish I could be there ...

...and the canadian flag!
it makes it even more interesting to realise there are living people in each of those boxes.

This shot brings to my mind an ant hill for some reason.

The lights from all the windows look great. I like the fluttering flag in the centre.

Posted by Phil at January 19, 2006 07:45 AM

Well exposed. The flag with the motion blur makes the shot!

Posted by dan culberson at January 19, 2006 08:19 AM

Wow, look at all of those windows. Very complex image. Almost didn't notice the Canadian flag. I like the light trails of the cars in the foreground. Very neat shot!

Posted by DeWaun at January 19, 2006 08:25 AM

The flagpole almost looks invisible.

Cool shot. Love the detail and contrast to the fast moving cars in front of the building. Weird weather we've been having, eh?

I love the composition

Great to walk with a tripod! The cabs and all these lights make me think of some Michael Mann's movies. A very nice shot indeed!

Posted by Jonas Detarsis at January 19, 2006 11:38 AM

Excellent shot as usual. did you take a number with different time exposures to get it right or were you successful first time?

Posted by Al at January 19, 2006 12:05 PM

Incredible shot, great technique as well with the timed exposure. I love the way this came out. You've got a great eye for a good picture.

Your last few pictures have shown toronto in really different ways: the quaint historic charm of the distillery disrict, the eclectic grunginess of kensington market, and these cold, beautiful and powerful bank towers.

I think it would be interesting if you took the occasional shot of the inner suburbs. If you are able to make the run down stripmalls and concrete apartment towers in scarborouch look interesting or beautiful it would demonstrate real talent.

Your photos have excellent content, and I am now adding a link to your site.

i don't know what it is about this photo but i can't help but feel like the building isn't framed straight. looking closer it's obvious that the horizontal lines do indeed line up with the frame's edges but it still feels biased to the right.

Posted by schmee at January 19, 2006 02:58 PM

Brilliant and mesmerizing!

Posted by deb at January 19, 2006 02:58 PM

This is a truly beautiful photo and ticks all my boxes.

The flag seems to be coming from an other world...that's strange. You got a good eye man! very good.

As an American who spent 2 years living in Toronto, and who subsequently fell in love with the great city, this site has become my favorite place on the Net. I absolutely love the pictures, and thank you for sharing the beautiful city through your incredible work.

Fantastic shot, i love the composition and the long exposure.

Posted by PaulB at January 19, 2006 05:10 PM

hmmm, so many windows...

Posted by ps at January 19, 2006 08:27 PM

You make every shot look perfect. Everyone is still in the office!

Posted by noushin at January 19, 2006 11:35 PM

Another very nice shot. I think the bright floor makes the picture. Wouldn't be special if the floor is mostly just dark (it would just be another night city shot.)

Posted by gck at January 20, 2006 01:56 AM

I like the wide open feel at the entrance of this building. The passing cars give a sense of energy to an otherwise silent building.
