Great! You captured a very good moment in a suitable compositon.

somehow i can't deal with taking pictures of people.. how do you do that? go straight towards them, ask them, then take the shot or do you take the shot first?

Glad wrapped woman. This sure is a classic winter scene!

This picture could be featured in an Economist special on Chinese textile invading the world. :)

So many things to wear...yet still cold!

Posted by Maran at January 16, 2006 07:53 AM

haven't seen anything like this before
fortunatelly it doesn't often happen to be that cold here in Poland
interesting photo

Did she not read the warning on the bag that said plastic bags are not toys?

Posted by Sean Galbraith at January 16, 2006 09:54 AM

Interesting shot. What strikes me is the woman contrasted to the hat manikins next to her. Not to mention the whole "standing in a little plastic booth thing.... Cool urban winter scene.

In Chinatown, you can purchase all sorts of wonderful things: mittens, scarves, hats, and a life-size replica of a Chinese woman still in the original packaging.

unbelievable candid shot! The composition is great!! Tricky exposure too...haha =) Great job!!!

So Hong Kong style comes to Toronto. It first made me think of the cages in warehouses in Hong Kong in which poor people live, stacked one on top of the other, open wire sides and freezing for lack of heating systems.

In my opinion, it is one of the worst examples of how immigration is changing Canada. A sort of loss of order that we at least think existed, to satisfy deperate peoples needs. All part of why the streets are becoming a civil war.

Good catch, Sam.

Nice shot Sam, it's almost surreal.

If u want to make a sales, smile.

Very awesome shot... I know such scenes... Good capture.

It's so sadness to whom has to captured in a plastic cage to dealing with. It's not a nice shot, it's a bitter shot. tanx sam.

Does the saleswoman is real? Excellent!

Posted by mistralcolors at January 16, 2006 03:26 PM

OOOh, I really wanted to get this "asian barbie" doll. How much did they want for it?
I bought one before, but then an hour later I wanted another.

Colourfull! I visited this avenue.

Great shot man

Posted by pooyan at January 16, 2006 04:57 PM

She must have got the idea from the hotdog vendors in this city.

Posted by Rob at January 16, 2006 09:10 PM

A great shot.......a woman wrapped in plastic for warmth is no different from hundreds of baby strollers wrapped in plastic for a cold afternoon's "push"........just a different generation.

Posted by Herb at January 16, 2006 09:27 PM

This picture makes me feel quite sad for this woman; she looks so cold, and with nowhere to go.

Then again, she can always put on some gloves and a few hats...

This is fantastic after all the comments I read on my entry about enclosed cafés during the winter. I also love the heads next to her!

Posted by Eric at Paris Daily Photo at January 17, 2006 12:03 AM

Very interesting. At first, I thought she was one of the dummies along the wall because of her motionless expression, or perhaps in a display for some odd reason. It's a great meld of subjects.

Posted by Abe at January 18, 2006 04:37 AM

She almost looks like one of the doll heads next to her

Posted by rosh at January 18, 2006 04:52 PM

I can't help but comment on this one since I live in Hong Kong and this photo looks just like any of the thousands of selling-stalls here - apart from the plastic enclosure for the keeper. Even her scowl is typical - which is not very inviting, eh? Then again, maybe she has nothing to smile about...

Posted by Cindy at January 20, 2006 09:00 PM

very good photos! Worth the bookmark to see whats next...

Posted by N. at January 21, 2006 02:52 PM

excellent

Posted by pierre at January 22, 2006 02:51 PM

You can definitely feel the cold with her. Just look at the expression on her face.

I'm enjoying backtracking through your ddoi, having only just recently discovered this website.

I too have been curious about your shots with people. As another viewer questioned, do you ask for permission before or after taking the shot? In your experience, do most people tend to be receptive to having their picture taken, if they're out in public? Curious . . .
