Absolutely amazing. This is one of my favourites from your site.

Stunning photo..... funny thing is it wasn't the lights that had me going =) I really like how the sidewalk looks after the rain... great job and thanks for sharing how it was done.

Awesome picture!

What exposure times/apertures did you use for this picture? Making shots like these are always hard to get the lighting right, hence I wonder how you pulled this one off.

Great ! (As usually)

I know I insist a lot, but you really should have to write a book about Digital Darkroom practice.

The few seconds my browser take every day to give me the Daily Dose Of Imagery are really exciting. Even when I have a bad day, I know that I will have a good time :-)

Thanks, Sam !

Thanks for the tip. But how did you isolate the man in the photo - from the movement taking place?

I love it! You're the greatest.

Posted by dannyone at December 29, 2005 06:43 AM

I love the lights from the long exposure here. Very nice!

I was wondering how you got that guy to stand still for 6 seconds! Great shot.

Wonderfull, this pic is really amazing.

Love the light effect.

I like the contradiction between 'the speed of light' and the fact that in this case it is the only remaining evidence of the traffic passing by. Suitable for this time of the year where we kind of evaluate the year or at least what we remember of it....
Wishing you all the best for the coming year, especially the quality that Sam shows us every day: to see something beautiful in what we think is our ordinary life!

love the warm colors. great one!

This is the very same reason why I've been struggling to post a photo recently. This has been one of the greyest fall-winter seasons that I can remember.

Very cool technique Sam, and an old one at that! I remember back in high-school having to do this kind of technique in the dark room. My prof called it "photo-sandwich" (en francais).

Any ways, thanks for sharing this tip. It's brought me back some old ideas and thus, new creativity.

Great shot.

The 3/4 angle reminds me of Sim City. Now I have to go play the game. I'm going to blame your site for my lack of productivity. :)

I always love your rain and snow pictures. There is always something so warm and inviting about the colours.
But Sam, its the "Toronto Coach Terminal". Greyhound is just one of the several bus lines using it.

very beautiful night shot.
fantastic lights and very nice composition...

Seeing the quite sharp man standing there and then the multi taillight tracks I, like others here, immediately wondered how he happened to stay still long enough for this picture. But your regularly being the teacher the explanation awaited us at the bottom.

Computers sure make this easier than the film days as one visitor comments about experiencing when learning to 'sandwich' photos.

That high gloss sidewalk is a beautiful color in this - as others have noted. The bright side of a dull day.

Mr Six Second Still looks to be on the phone. Must have been an intense call. Excellent end result and the description of how rocks. Now for the real question, what are you crazy Canucks doing still riding pushbikes this time of year?

Posted by ROB at December 29, 2005 04:26 PM

yeah, this is one of my favorites, and i concider myself critical, the exposure is on which is key, but what really makes it is how casually small the man looks compared to the sidewalk and the street. Fantastic.

Nice blog.
I love your colours

Posted by nic at December 29, 2005 06:51 PM

This is one cool shot.

Most of all I love the round corner of sidewalk.

Amazing!

What a great ps tip! I really like this foto. I like the angle and the wet, reflective street, not to mention the great multi-colored street and the large golden sidewalk and all that is happening there. Excellent!

Beautiful technique. Well done!
