Comments: limo and deli

That is the club Privilege on Peter St. Richmond St, mainly Richmond and Peter is one of the main intersections where lots of night clubs are located.

I have never been in Toronto, neither in Canada, but this photo looks interesting.

Garbage bags make the shot.

Eeech. What an eyesore that club is. It looks like a big tin can.

thats a really slow shutter speed for being handheld. you must have braced the camera on a pole or something.

Peter Street Deli (next door) is the worst restaurant in T.O. MHO

'Tis rather a disgusting corner from an esthetics point of view - but fascinating. Ugly club on corner - Hitchcock murder film house on left, and the damn garbage bags that seem endemic.

All rather funny with that absurd limo infront of it.

Good catch of weird. Especially considering the hand held 1/5 sec. exposure. Steady lad, you are.

Funny thing is, I'd rather go to that deli, than that club, any day of the week. :)

makes quite a contrast to the amityville house on the left too from the previous picture

Excellent photo. If Barenaked Ladies' "If I Had A Million Dollars" is ever re-released as a single - that should be the sleeve photo!

it's amazing that that house is right next to that insane building. the april shot seemed to be somewhere half suburban while this looks properly city-centre. yet here they are right next to one another. madness.

Love the reflection from the metal. Great colors and sharp (1/5s - wow, steady hand!)

Chris, go there for lunch and sit at the far back, near the kitchen. You'll change your mind.

Posted by Randy Charles Morin at December 20, 2005 03:38 PM

Bling! - Love it!

Hi ddoi,

I'm more interested by the texture of the club instead of the car. The light effect on it is very nice! Congratulation.

awww i love your site so much and now that i don't live in toronto anymore it's just a big nostalgia-fest for me. I used to work in the beautiful 401 richmond round the corner and sneered at that ugly tinfoil building every morning rushing to work!

Posted by jill at December 20, 2005 07:03 PM

I spent three years working near this corner and was dragged quite often for lunch meetings at the Peter Street Deli. It is by far the worst dive of a restaurant in Toronto. It does however have a certain charm, but one I can live without.

This photo actually brought back indigestion from the past.

The metal makes very interesting light reflection in it. That Deli is getting some free advertising!! Very nice composition

Sam, I'm really quite umimpressed with this photo. It feels too snapshot-y, as if you just absentmindedly turned to take this photo and resumed whatever you were doing. It might just be that there's too much going on in the shot -- from the limo to the streetlight to the billboards -- I'm just not feeling whatever this locale might be capable of communicating photographically.

Maybe if you cropped off the bottom part of the photo, pretty much right to the limo's tires, the length of the photo would emulate the length of the limousine and would get us in the right mindset for the rest of the photo.

This shot might also benefit from a kneeling-down stance, thus reducing the static squareness of the building and accenting, again, the dramatic length of the subject.

Just my two cents.

lol, i was at priviledge last saturday...they play mostly salsa and meringue.

i definately want to bring my camera on club night one time, especially in the winter. you got all these young girls running around in the freezing cold with the littlest skirts.

Regarding the above comments, the only reason the club looks like an eye-sore is because it's been taken out of context. It's located in club-district, where most clubs look just as silly. But an otherwise interesting shot.

Sam, you should definitely get to club district around 11 on a Saturday night. I guarantee you'll have a photo field trip.

Sam. Ok this is a resized image, but 1/5s?! Where can I get those gloves with IS? :P

Great shot! Love the bonus of the lit top floor apartment, in the upper rh corner.

Just one very interesting news:

I was the first to comment on this photograph, and then I thought maybe I should go and check this club out! I was there with one of my friends on Sunday night (x-mas night) and all of the sudden we heard a gunshot in the club; so a little chaotic situation happened for about 5 mins as everyone was running away and bouncers caught the person with the gun and about 15 mins after that, cops evacuated the place! I had never seen that many police cars, officers and horses in my life!! They had to close the end of Peter and one lane of Richmond was closed for a while...crazy night

Quite a scary experience...wish I had my camera with me!
