Comments: treetrunk and the field

Hi there, I know it's a day late, but I just wanted to congratulate DDI on winning the Canadian Blogs Awards' Photoblogs category by the highest margin and also highest percentage of any of the categories. Keep up with the great stuff :)

This is what I may call "Blowing life in dead bodies"... I think this photo is more suitable for end of March, beginning of the spring, which would be my birthday! :D

I've been following your photoblog from couple weeks ago. Lot of your photos are amazing and especially this one. Very wonderful moment you've got here :)

Posted by Budi at December 13, 2005 02:07 AM

amazing. great capture. love the rays and the exposure.

Posted by rich at December 13, 2005 02:10 AM

stunning sam, just stunning.

Posted by shane j montgomery at December 13, 2005 03:31 AM

Great shot. Really 'feels' cold despite the warm grey of the cloud. I swear if you look at the clouds long enough you will start to see them roll across the sky.

Posted by Richard Hayter at December 13, 2005 03:42 AM

Very beatifully captured, Sam. Great tone and exposure, and the composition is top-notch.

Posted by Jessyel Ty Gonzalez at December 13, 2005 03:45 AM

wow, beautiful scene. perfect composition.

I'll admit something here. Every once in awhile I start to wonder why DDOI is *SO* popular.(see 60% of vote in Canadian Blog Awards) I mean, the photography is always of a high quality, but there are other photoblogs out there that consistently produce just fantastic shots as well.

Then something like this gets posted and I go "oh yeah". This is right up there with the pumpkin shot--absolutely stellar, and proof positive that DDOI is king of the photoblogs...

Breathtaking!

I have just stumbled across your site. Excellent photographs. I shall be returning regularly.

In the meantime, greetings from Southampton, England.

Nice image. Was this from the "mad" farmers field?

Posted by Mark at December 13, 2005 09:02 AM

Man! It's crispy, warm and cold...all at the same time! Another beautiful Christmas photo.

wow, This is an awsome picture! It looks like God farted through the clouds. But it's okay, because his sh*t smells like baby Jesus.

Love the juxtaposition of the sky and ground in this photo. There's something surreal about it. Congrats on the win at the Blog Awards. You deserve it thanks to your clear passion for consistently creating and taking great photos.

Opened up the National Post this morning and was surprised to see a collage of your pictures on the front page of the arts section. Congradulations! Your photos are as always are awesome. I'm always surprised at how you are able to make (what I would consider) mundane lighting situations and come out with great photographs.

VERY nice. Amazing shot.

I love your site, discovered it a few weeks ago on recommendation from a friend. It's a daily "read" now.

Would you mind telling me what lens you used to capture this shot?

Posted by A thinker at December 13, 2005 10:35 AM

Congrats on the National Post article Sam. Recognition was well deserved.

Stunning, just stunning. Your blog has been part of my daily routine for the last 2 years now.

absolutely breathtaking.

I visit your blog daily (I'm with the concept, you know..) and I don't comment often, but I really like it. This particular picture prooves that you are the king when it comes to turning simple places or objects into stunning pics.
Keep up the good work!

Brings to mind Shelley: "I love all waste and solitary places; where we taste the pleasure of believing what we see
is boundless, as we wish our souls to be..."

Thank you, Sam.

Congratulations on the National Post article.

WOW! sam you're amazing.

Congrats, from Houston.

Posted by J.R.Benjamin at December 13, 2005 05:55 PM

Great epic picture you've certainly captured 'the moment'

Posted by AndyM at December 13, 2005 06:10 PM

Stunning image! This scene would be somewhat bleak without the rays of sun appearing from couds. The composition is dead on.

Posted by Rachelle at December 13, 2005 06:21 PM

fantastic composition. the jagged corpse of the tree is so icy against the sky... grisly, almost. to me, it's like heavenly grace returning (but only momentarily) to a field long forgotten, and that casts the frozen scene below into sharper relief. beautiful work!

Posted by tej at December 13, 2005 06:32 PM

There is no sign of movement. It gives me a feeling that if you had waited at this spot for 500 hours nothing would have moved an inch. This looks a lot like a forgotten piece of land. Many of the shots you take outdoors look a lot like suburbs of Philadelphia, near where I am. Great work

Posted by noushin at December 13, 2005 07:00 PM

I want to inform your followers,Sam, of a very complementary, well-written article about you and your excellent work by columnist ROBERT FULFORD in today's NATIONAL POST newspaper (Dec.13/05) P.S. today's photo is a masterpiece.

Posted by martin at December 13, 2005 07:39 PM

Another masterpiece.

Posted by PlasticTV at December 13, 2005 08:34 PM

This photograph surely 'BREAKS THROUGH THE CLOUDS' Absolutely amazing... can we please have a wallpaper. Thanks for lighting up my day ;-)

Posted by Rahul at December 13, 2005 10:08 PM

Sam, this photograph looks to me like the end of the world, like what the world would look like after a nuclear holocaust.

Very powerful. Nicely done.

Posted by Molly at December 13, 2005 10:12 PM

Lovely... striking rays against the field and bright snow. Very nice!

Posted by Abe at December 14, 2005 01:12 AM
