Comments: church silhouette

Very cool shot. Those clouds look very strange, like they have a pattern.

Another great one. The composition is great, with or without the letterbox. But I may have to try copying your letterbox.

Posted by gck at December 2, 2005 02:44 AM

like the other pic... nice. The sky is stunning.

Posted by axier at December 2, 2005 03:31 AM

Brilliant shot. I am sure the god doesn't favour your part of the world any more than mine and the sky and clouds there are only as good as they are here so how come they look so damn good in your shots and quite ordinary in mine?

Posted by Navin Harish at December 2, 2005 03:43 AM

everyday, you amaze me.
You are ssssooooo talented.

Thanks.

Posted by nicolas at December 2, 2005 03:56 AM

you have beautiful clouds in toronto... or maybe it's just that you capture them so well.

Posted by Beth at December 2, 2005 04:19 AM

Very nice shot... I love how the clouds come in. Great job.

Posted by Patrick at December 2, 2005 04:20 AM

beautiful! the hint of light on the domes and those clouds gives a sense of depth to the picture.

Posted by maxaud at December 2, 2005 04:31 AM

Oh my god! This is breathtaking.

Superb shot, and shot from a moving vehicle, Wow!!

Nice. Very nice.

I vote for putting more pics up on Flickr so we can download high-res shots for desktop wallpapers! Your photos are great, keep up the good work.

Dramatically beautiful.

This church is in the Richmond Hill area if I'm not mistaken. Interesting how the clouds seem to be lined up. Well done Sam and thank you for sharing.

Awesome silhouette. I love the clouds.

Posted by Nate at December 2, 2005 08:33 AM

Nice shot Sam, that's the Slovak cathedral built by Steve Roman in Unionville. I walked through it when it was under construction when I was a little kid, boy I'd love to have pictures of the inside from back then. I like the silouette and tones in this shot.

Posted by phirleh at December 2, 2005 08:38 AM

In a word...STUNNING!

Posted by Lauren at December 2, 2005 09:01 AM

This is a breathtaking shot, Sam.

If this is the same Ukrainian Church that I think it is, congratulations on making it look great. It stands out like a sore thumb in the middle of farmland haha... great picture!

Posted by rz at December 2, 2005 09:41 AM

This is beautiful, the lampposts are a bit distracting but the tone of the sky, the colours of the clouds and the shape of the silhouette are beautiful. Well done.

Ya gotta love those onion shaped roofs. And the work to build them.

You and your "from a moving vehicle" photos - amazing; while some folk can't get a sharp image standing still at 1/1000th of a second. Well - I hope I exagerate.

You do manage to frame them well considering.

Posted by Hugh Petrie at December 2, 2005 11:02 AM

great shot. great sky.

Posted by mateush at December 2, 2005 11:03 AM

That's where jews prey. Yeah, I know how I spelled it. You'll figure it out.

Posted by keith at December 2, 2005 11:07 AM

The sky look wonderful and I liked the patern. The pic put the sky in evidence. Well done.

Posted by Darwin at December 2, 2005 11:28 AM

Oh my God...it's very beautiful :)

Posted by Budi at December 2, 2005 11:34 AM

hmmm wonder why my earlier post wasnt posted.. Was it because I mentioned the polarizing filter??
I think the image is very pleasing to the eye, but do think its a little bit low on the blues, a little color correction with photoshop would do miracles to this image. But its indeed a very nice image.

Posted by Paolo at December 2, 2005 12:49 PM

I can't believe this was taken here in Canada. I thought for sure it would have been taken in some other place in the world. I hope you were not driving while taking the picture.

Posted by Angie Cooper at December 2, 2005 12:53 PM

stunning!

Found you by way of Arun... Awesome pics!!! :)

lol I love this pic! I used to drive by it all the time on my way to my grandparents' house. When I was younger I would see it in the distance and think it was a palace.

Posted by Doris at December 2, 2005 02:09 PM

This is an obvious photoshop project. No way was this shot taken out of a driving car, unless it was going 5kph. And the sky isn't a match, much like some of the others in this series. IT's nice, it's just a fraud.

Too bad.

Posted by Chun Nelson at December 2, 2005 03:33 PM

wow didn't know the architecture is so similar to ukrainian churches.
the timing of the clouds are perfect. if you look well enough you can see a fading pattern.

Posted by Natalie at December 2, 2005 03:35 PM

amazing line up of the clouds

Posted by mike wbl at December 2, 2005 04:26 PM

Amazing, as of 2005 this is in the top 3 of your pictures. Amazing clouds.

Posted by feydey at December 2, 2005 05:26 PM

Mesmerizing. What an inspiring photo...!

Posted by nyifica at December 2, 2005 07:26 PM

This is specifically called the Cathedral of the Transfiguration - located at 10350, Woodbine Avenue, Markham, Ontario. The community around it (the new homes beings planned and constructed) is to be called Cathedral Town.
I live very close by and see it quite often as I travel about the area. I am pretty sure the community around it will thrive because the surrounding area seems to fill up pretty quickly with office buildings and new residential projects.

fyi just in case if anyone wants to visit it and look at the interior, it's worth the trip :)

Just to say man, your pictures are amazing. I’ve always wanted to get into photography, but because Im in music, I just never picked it up.
Your shots of Nathan Philip square are pretty impressive, and you should keep up the good work.
I will be checking your new posts daily.

"wow, didn't know you dared to venture that far north to my area of the city ;)"

That's exactly what I was thinking. Welcome to my hometown Sam! =)

Posted by Raffi at December 3, 2005 11:57 AM

I love both photos shot from the car. Did you shoot with the window up or down?

Posted by shawn at December 5, 2005 07:22 AM

I love silhouettes, and this one is beautiful. Great capture

Posted by Nick at December 5, 2005 11:00 AM

Seems like it might be time for a redesign, eh Sam? :) I think a design that would allow wide photos would really unleash your creativity.

Posted by sinnick at December 6, 2005 09:27 AM

Strong contrast and impact - invokes feelings of somber, quiet, peace, rest, strength, and others.
Thanks

Posted by Joe Wessels at December 8, 2005 05:43 PM
