amazing. i love the contrast. the sewage lid looks like it's made of plastic, the starbust in the background is awesome, and i love the purple hue on the concrete on the left. very interesting shot.
Posted by rich at November 25, 2005 01:42 AMAside from the obvious (i.e. snow), the crispness and silvery tones in this image really make the cold almost tangible - it's a great shot, and reminds me why i moved as far south as possible to avoid this weather :)
I just stumbled onto your page & i'm really enjoying your work.
Excellent picture Sam. Brr, sure was cold today! Supposed to be up to 12 degrees celsius with rain next week though. Crazy weather!
Posted by Jason at November 25, 2005 02:06 AMClever intuitive composition
Posted by Andy at November 25, 2005 02:27 AMGoogle is great.
Very interesting image, Amazingly bright and you must have used a relatively fast shutter to avoid any motion blur.
Very dreamlike quality to it.
Posted by Ahamed at November 25, 2005 02:31 AMITS SNOWING WHERE I AM, RIGHT NOW!!
Posted by Noah at November 25, 2005 02:33 AMI like the guy who's running. There's even fireworks in the background! I wish it was snowing here (South England), it's threatening to but hasn't yet!
Posted by Ben at November 25, 2005 02:41 AMWhy are fireworks going off in the background? Am I looking at it wrong?
Posted by Ryuukuro at November 25, 2005 03:25 AMWell, Google just doesn't get it ... does it? :O)
We haven't had ours here in Nova Scotia yet, .... it can wait, I'm in no hurry! Is that fireworks in the background there Sam?
Posted by Lynn R at November 25, 2005 05:37 AMThanx for great tip with Google:-)
Nice shot. festive - even if it is still November!! Looks like Toronto did when I was there a couple of years ago in February - it was -30 with the wind chill then!
Posted by Derek Hart at November 25, 2005 08:23 AMThe guy who looks like he's going to take off sprinting makes this short for me.
Posted by dan at November 25, 2005 08:25 AMNice picture, very festive even if it is still only November!
Toronto looks like it did a couple of years ago when I visited in February - it was -30 with the wind chill then!!!
I often view your pics here in Chester, England, enjoying them and missing one of my favourite cities in the world
Posted by Derek Hart at November 25, 2005 08:26 AMvery cool shot Sam. Looks somehow photoshop glow effect which I like very much...
Posted by DavidFF at November 25, 2005 08:38 AMThat's fantastic
Posted by mat at November 25, 2005 08:39 AMIt always amazes me how you get such sharp images at slowish shutter speeds whilst handholding, and is even more impressive in this instance given the sub-zero temps.
Posted by Bonus at November 25, 2005 09:06 AMIronically, it was colder yesterday in T.O. than in Yellowknife!
Enjoying your pix & missing my hometown (but I'll be there for Xmas!)
Marita (in Yellowknife)
Posted by Marita at November 25, 2005 09:52 AMvery nice. i like the silver tones you have captured. It looks so cold and I see the idiot running in the snow and I want to say, "Don't you know that makes it feel colder?!" but alas, I can't. It's just a picture and this guy has already reached his destination...LoL
Posted by stephanie at November 25, 2005 10:14 AMthis looks fake! You faked this picture! Hey guys, look over here. This guy, Sam is faking it! He's a big fat faker! Oh my god look, he even has fake boobs!!!
Posted by keith at November 25, 2005 10:15 AMIt's very beautiful night and snow ahot.
Superb.
Sam I always love your snowy shots, and keep them on file.
For you out-of-towners -- yes that is fireworks, but the eletrical kind. Its a giant sunburst suppended in the middle of the square, and the light radiates out from the centre, just like the real thing.
nice winter shot!

Good Luck! va Khoda Hafez.
Fantastic image! Christmas it's almost here and this photo just made it closer.
And thanks for the Google tip. : )
Posted by nuno f at November 25, 2005 11:48 AMlove the colours here, nice winter shot!
Posted by Stephan at November 25, 2005 12:38 PMI'll be on this very street tonight and I can't wait!
Also, fully aware of the C to F conversion; was just funny to throw that difference into your last post. Apparently by your tip, not many people knew Google was that intelligent. Looks like we are saving the world one uninformed person at a time.
Posted by Jonathan Greenwald at November 25, 2005 01:06 PMshots like this are why this is my favorite photoblog on the net. simply breathtaking.
Posted by Jesse at November 25, 2005 01:44 PMu guys are so lucky up there, i dream of a snow in texas
Posted by mohsen at November 25, 2005 01:49 PMThank you for your very nice pictures, Sam. It never ceases to amaze me that there are always new twists in your phtotographs of familiar landmarks. This is your nth picture of Dundas square and there is always something new, different and fresh everytime. This particular shot has inspired me to go out and capture some snowy images of my own.
Posted by lisa at November 25, 2005 01:52 PMI've never been a big fan of Dundas Square. In the summer, it's all dark colours and hard textures. (It's also supposed to be Toronto's version of Times Square in NYC - yeah, right, good luck with that.) I must say, however, that this is the first photo of that location I've seen that makes it look appealing. Fantastic work, as usual!
Posted by sean at November 25, 2005 02:02 PMthis looks like an animated cartoon winter scene. the sharpness and silver tone to it makes me just want to put on some jazz and sip hot tea. wonderful capture!
Posted by Traci at November 25, 2005 02:21 PMYour shots make me home sick here is Holland. I miss a good old Toronto Winter. Thanks for giving me an impression of it.
any way i can get this in a high res for desktop wallpaper?
Posted by andrewqh at November 25, 2005 04:15 PMi love the dundas area. the dundas sqaure is probably one of my most favourite squares in toronto because it's right across from the eaton centre :).
Posted by Ayan at November 25, 2005 05:03 PMCool! Uh - well ya! I mean the scene.
BTW: C to F is a rather lightweight mental trial in math.
-10 divide by 5 = -2, x9 = -18, + 32 = + 14. It's everyone's high school math and physics class.
Geeze! Do we need Google for it? Help!! (Uh! Well, I suppose -3 or 7 etc. might strain the brain, but?)
No wonder I didn't graduate from High School.
Posted by Hugh Petrie at November 25, 2005 07:49 PMhi.its me from one of the hottest countries(kuwait)i heard about your pictures in a irainian magazine (40cheragh)for the first time and i see here a great job.i love it and i hope u the best...

Posted by Dan LaMee at November 29, 2005 09:11 AMdude! this is beautiful! I live in singapore, a country along the equator, and we NEVER see snow EVER! the tropical winter is just monsoon rain so it's wet wet wet. Your pic makes me wanna visit canada so much!
Posted by neowenyang at November 29, 2005 09:35 AMyou know what, i took a nap behind this tree this summer.
thanks for the reminding.
I would also like to get this as a wallpaper for a 1600x1200 screen
Supernice photo!
Beside this being a beautiful shot, I really like the exposure here. It's perfect. The grain in the sky is great as well!
