Comments: black and white

Hells Kitchen - Ming and FS baby! That trash has to go, lol, nice contrast between the brownstone and the black and white trash.

Is there a hell's kitchen in NY? But anyway, seems like the black team is winning, judging by the amount of food cooked / garbage generated.

What is the reason for the two different garbage bags?

Posted by Amit at November 22, 2005 02:53 AM

This picture could only be by you, great stuff.

Great find, you'd think both the apartment buildings would just use similar garbage bags...

if it weren't for the trash and the numbers on the awnings, I would swear this was a mirrored image!

You've made me think again! First off, I have to say, I really hate racism. At first I feel bad for the black bags, because the white ones won't let them in. But then as I take a second look, it looks more like the black bags are keeping "the man" out of their area. So it dons on me, maybe what Sam is saying is that it's better fopr all races, to just live together seperatly, us and them kind of thing. Well done Sam. Well done you marvelously racist bastard!!

Coop.

Actually, now that I look at it, it just looks like two families with a whole lot of shit to throw out. Sorry, I get confussed.

I like the contrast between the repetition of the windows and the chaos of the garbage bags

Ahh the source separation of waste. I just love it!

heh, this isnt the first time ive seen a pic of trash bags lined up on the sidewalk from you. nice comp...

Posted by Jesse at November 22, 2005 11:13 AM

Haha Sam,

if you'd categorize your pics like Shahin does, you'd raise up quite a lot of pictures containing garbage. I guess that's one of your weaknesses ;-)

Good shot anyway, I like the colors. And I like your lense, hand it over please *hehe*

Greeting from germany,
Tobias

Why do we think black and white people?
Most of us anyway.
My explanation: Whe still have a way to go!

Great picture!

Waiting for the picture to load, I was thinking how quaint the scene was ... until I saw the bags of rubbish.

What a depressing example of man's excesses. And not even the worst tenements you might find in NY city.

I am moved by the degree to which man is building hell on earth cities - a great cause for crime as it is a crime in itself. All of which is part of the reason for my website: PeaceOnEarthAtHome

I forgot to comment in my previous post that to me the B&W bags suggest that one is organic while the other is not. It has nothing to do with race but the difference in our garbage. People should avoid these erroneous perspectives on something that is not human if human generated.

I say segregation is garbage! :)

Even here in Australia we have garbage bins. It's interesting to think that New York, such a big city, end up getting people to haul bags of trash into a truck.

Posted by qubik at November 22, 2005 06:01 PM

The bags are not white; they're clear. It is so the Department of Sanitation can see into the bags and ensure the residents are recycling properly. If the garbage is not recycled properly, you will receive a nice fine.

Man in NY State they'll fine you for anything! I won't even go into the "driver's responsibilty assesment" cash grab. All I'll say is while NYC is a really cool place, NY State...F off!

Posted by A.R. at November 23, 2005 04:56 PM

my guess, the black bags are garbage, and the white are recycables???

Hell's kitchen is great - that's where I stay when I'm in NYC. Great little hotel called the 414 Inn on West 46th. These are typical rowhouses in the area. I guess back in the day this was a pretty rough area, but in the last decade the city has rejuvinated schools, parks and services. It's about a 10 minute walk from Times Square. BTW, W46 is restaurant row, great eats in this area - also just a short walk to the theatre district.
