I didn't realize Toronto had such strange events. I should get out more.

Great capture!

Posted by Darren at November 14, 2005 02:17 AM

You've captured the spirit of the fight very well. Excellent work! : )

Posted by nuno f at November 14, 2005 02:29 AM

Looks like fun.
Nice photos I like how the feathers are frozen in the air in the bottom one.

Posted by Ahamed at November 14, 2005 03:20 AM

These pics are great in capturing the scene. I especially like the first one: time seems frozen.

That's awesome!! Must be a Canadian thing...people would probably end up angry and bloody most places in the US. Is it an annual thing? Great shots.

Posted by Tommy at November 14, 2005 03:53 AM

Definitely, that's something we have to import to the Basque Country ;-)

Posted by axier at November 14, 2005 04:17 AM

Thats sportive in true sense. never knew such things ever happened anywhere in the world - makes me feel ignorant now.

The first frame is beautifully timed i should say and the second - the man with red hair - Wow expressions there.

Posted by prasoon at November 14, 2005 04:37 AM

Excellent. Some good harmless fun. Nice to see.

Posted by Phil at November 14, 2005 04:38 AM

Oh, these made me laugh out loud - TY! I think I shall go round with a secret smile all day just thinking about the pillow fight!

Posted by K8 at November 14, 2005 05:02 AM

I have no doubts now that the game Sims is made by Canadians!

Posted by Shyha at November 14, 2005 05:14 AM

Great shots! I laughed out loud when they loaded (and nearly choked on my tea), and have had to explain to everyone in the office what I was looking at. They like them too!

Top stuff!

Top pic is great. Love it.

sweet, nice action shot, never heard of a public pillow fight, learn something new every day

Posted by james at November 14, 2005 06:28 AM

Doesn't look quite as hazardous as the shaving-cream fight I covered over the summer, but a chance to dodge flying object to get a decent shot none the less. Nice shots.

Hello:

An interesting event. Althought I think these two images would fall in the lowest 10% of all of your DDOI images, they are still both interesting to examine closely.

The quality of your photography overall is amazing and wonderful.

That is the biggest gayest slumber party I've ever seen!
And you captured it well my friend!! I think I prefer to see people hitting each other with pillows than bullets. I like the message: Let gay people run the world! The most that will happen is a big pillow fight........... And maybe some shopping.

Coop.

P.s. Is that you in the second picture on the bottom? Oh, I just realized how that sounds, teehee.

Posted by keith at November 14, 2005 11:19 AM

What a great idea. I did not know you guys have pillow fight event in TO.

Posted by Photo Traces at November 14, 2005 12:00 PM

Ha, sometimes the comments here are almost as entertaining as the pictures... "pillow fights and shopping"!

Posted by seems Artless at November 14, 2005 12:28 PM

Thanks for sharing! I had been looking forward to it all week, but at the last minute didn't make it. Great to find all these photos around the web.

Posted by Chris Nolan.ca at November 14, 2005 12:34 PM

the first photo is an amazing capture. they're both very good. I wish we had huge pillow fights here.

Posted by lisa at November 14, 2005 12:56 PM

Nice pictures, especially the first one! I think someone already said it, but it really does look like time was frozen in that shot. Didn't know the T-Dot had such wacky events like this, lol!

Strange day on ddoi. Pillow fight on your site and a shot of a decrepit bowling lane ball receiver at a psychiatric hospital - well I presume it's the hospital. I wonder at the mess on the floor, but that's to be expected with mental problems.

I'm wondering what your experience was at the Whitby hospital? I once did time in 1968 in the 100 year old stone building in Toronto that was 999 Queen West - to prove I was sane enough to go to jail for possesion of marijuana. That place had chains on the walls in the basement for the prisoners - uh - excuse me - patients who they had no drugs for in the old days. In my time there those rooms were for storage. Now there's a clean new place numbered 1001 I hear. Psychiatric hospitals are a horrendous lesson in life.

Uh, BTW. Good images.

hey, they did the same thing in budapest! funny photos

Posted by kikko77 at November 14, 2005 04:06 PM

Nice photos, no question about that, but why in the world would someone go pillow fighting?
I mean...why?

Posted by Sanjin at November 14, 2005 04:06 PM

Hey Sam,
What kinda post-processing did you do here? Reminds me of the shots of the comic book author. The red hair in the second shot really stands out.

Now that looks like fun (to photograph, anyway)!

Pillow fight on the street? wow~unbelievable~
Very nice and interesting shots!

Odd event!

boing boing blog has linked to your flicker set of this event.

Posted by hadi at November 14, 2005 09:15 PM

love the hair and colors, you do great saturation work. keep 'em coming.

Posted by shane montgomery at November 15, 2005 12:34 AM

love the first one. at initial sight, before seeing the second one, thought it was some domestic fight... Wowed that it's public

Posted by doreen at November 16, 2005 02:42 AM

I missed this event? Damn! Like the 1st pic... not sure about the 2nd one.

Posted by Sharif at November 16, 2005 08:55 AM

I love the colours here too; it's got a bleach-bypass aesthetic too it. Higher contrast, lower saturation...what was your post-processing on these photos and the flickr set?

Posted by kar wai ng at November 16, 2005 01:51 PM

I watched the slide show on flickr and, I just happened to have a fisherspooner song playing
and it made a perfect little improv music video.

Very funny - good capture of the action!

Posted by Abe at November 18, 2005 09:25 PM

These are great action shots, particularly the first one. It's difficult to retain so much clarity amidst such chaos. Good work.
