Good luck!

Great picture. Id say Hong Kong belongs on the list of most photogenic cities in the world as well.

Posted by Jesse at October 18, 2005 05:33 AM

Go go go !!!
Ny is amazing !
Went there in 2003 ust for one week, wasn't enough..

Enjoy ur trip

BY the way, really nice pics, you're in my favourites ;-)

Posted by Fabr!zz!o at October 18, 2005 05:33 AM

i was in toronto over the summer & found it alot better than NY, and more photogenic. NY was too huge and crowded for me hah.

this photograph is fantastic. great perspective

Posted by Gavin at October 18, 2005 05:39 AM

Mmmm... New York. How I want to go to New York just to shoot it.

I love getting lost in strange cities, everything becomes photogenic in my opinion. I live in LA (which I personally don't think is photogenic in itself, even though a not insignificant part of the photo and movie industry seems to be here), and the best photos I've taken are of parts of it I've never been to before.

Posted by Hal at October 18, 2005 05:43 AM

Really waiting for your next as usual stunning photos. Good luck.

Posted by Hany at October 18, 2005 06:10 AM

Dear Sam,
I really appreciate your look and of course your photos. Wish you luck in NY.
Regards,
Mamak

Amazing shot.
When my Canon A80 was my primary camera, I never invested in photographic components to attach to it and explore the potencial of the camera. How I regret that time.

Posted by nuno f at October 18, 2005 08:11 AM

good luck

Posted by james at October 18, 2005 08:12 AM

Good luck! I'm sure with your eye you'll find some treasures!

Posted by Chris Nolan.ca at October 18, 2005 08:25 AM

Great colours on this one Sam! Goodluck in New York I can't think of anyone who is more likely to do the city justice through the eye of a lens.

Posted by keels at October 18, 2005 08:35 AM

I really like how this shot is rounded, looks great. Nice capture. As for New York, lots of opportunities wherever you go!

Posted by Patrick at October 18, 2005 08:43 AM

Great shot, love the colours and lights and the tunnel effect from the seats

Posted by Rob at October 18, 2005 09:33 AM

You know what, I just love this shot. I know nothing about composition or anything like that, but damn I like this. It'd look pretty damn cool hanging on my wall (hint hint....your missing the money issue if you don't start selling some of your shots!)

Posted by Glenn at October 18, 2005 09:37 AM

this picture is one of my favorite so far!!! I love it because it looks like it could be from a werewolf movie, maybe starring a kid from the O.C. Or Maybe even a lazy eyed Paris Hilton. Just my pitch, I'll take back end, and a story by credit. But this shot looks like it's from the werewolves point of view. the only problem, is that they're aren't any people on the train, so that means that the werewolf will go hungry. So now this picture makes me sad, so now I don't like it at all. But hey....... That's art.

Posted by keith at October 18, 2005 09:40 AM

Wow, cool perspective. I like the colours in this shot. Canon A95, eh? Very good turn out.

Posted by Dan at October 18, 2005 09:44 AM

Sam,

Always amazed at your superhuman abilities to take photos without moving. 1/4 second is way too long, even with a superwide lens!

Like if you´re stoned, returning home.

Posted by Gustavo at October 18, 2005 10:05 AM

Love the photo, I got a Canon A85 and was considering getting a new lens and an adapter. However, seeing as I hope to get a DSLR soon then I don't think that it will be the economical thing to do for me. New York is awesome, I used to live there for about a year and a half, and still visit on an annual basis. Definitely photojenic, especially places like SoHo. It's too bad however that your only going to have 3 hours. There's a lot of little districs that require some travel time. Maybe next time. Good Luck, and enjoy.

Posted by Eugene Sakhnenko at October 18, 2005 10:10 AM

Hello, Sam.
I've never been to US, either.
Just wanted to wish you luck with the 3 hours shooting, and to wish you a good trip.

Good Luck, I absolutely loved NY!

Posted by Ashley from GA at October 18, 2005 10:24 AM

Good luck. Three hours is far better than none. I'm sure you can come up with some excellent shots in even half that time.

Posted by Patrick at October 18, 2005 10:36 AM

well, on behalf of the u.s., welcome! i really enjoy your photo skills, so i'm happy to hear you'll be utilizing them here, too. thanx for giving my eyes a treat every day. enjoy nyc! and check out the brooklyn bridge with all its fun lines (if you can)...

NYC is awesome- make sure and pack your wideangles ;)

Posted by shaun at October 18, 2005 11:21 AM

Compelling shot Sam =)
GOOD LUCK and have TONS OF FUN! We look forward to seeing your photographs.

Posted by Ayesha at October 18, 2005 11:34 AM

The most photogenic city in the world is, of course, Prague. I come from there:-)
Thanks for all your pictures. I'm kind of addicted to your page.

cool image, so much in focus.

good luck in ny

Posted by noah at October 18, 2005 11:50 AM

Good luck! Enjoy your visit in NY.

Posted by JMiguel at October 18, 2005 12:03 PM

Why do I get the oddest sensation of the streetcar yanking back and forth as the scenery rolls by?

Excellent combination of picture and effect!

Posted by Darren at October 18, 2005 12:06 PM

GOOD LUCK. NEW YORK WILL BE FUN TO PHOTOGRAPH. I HOPE YOU GET SOME GREAT PICS OUT OF IT.

Posted by BETHANY at October 18, 2005 12:09 PM

PS: How about London?

Posted by yoyolito at October 18, 2005 01:12 PM

good luck! I hope you'll take some beautiful photos! (but I think that Paris is more photogenic...) :)

how did you do to get an empty street car? :)

Posted by frédéric at October 18, 2005 02:32 PM

This is beautiful. I really love your streetcar pictures. And I CANNOT WAIT for the NYC pictures...that is absolutely one of my favorite cities in the world. It's just beautiful, and I'm sure you'll be able to make it breathtaking. :D

Posted by Kiri at October 18, 2005 03:07 PM

my suggestion for capturing the full "New York City experience" (whatever that means) is take advantage of both night and day. The sparkling night lights are nice and all, but people tend to forget how amazing the city is during the day. If you can, take your time to yourself during the day... and sacrifice a couple hours of sleep to go shoot the nightlife :)

Posted by e l i s s a at October 18, 2005 03:22 PM

What an oppertunity! Be sure you enjoy every bit of it. I must say, I've been to NYC in August. Stayed there for only 4 days, but the city got such a vibe you whether like it or not you've got to agree its astonishing! Succes with shooting photos!

Posted by David at October 18, 2005 04:01 PM

If youcome to Paris, I can help you to judge if it's the most photogenic city in the world :)

Posted by Bozan at October 18, 2005 04:17 PM

the most photogenic city in the world (or is it Paris?!). No Sam. The most photogenic city in the world is TORONTO as it's been proved with your shots :D

Posted by DavidFF at October 18, 2005 04:18 PM

Good Luck Sam!

Posted by Ali Reza Amakchi at October 18, 2005 04:21 PM

neat photo

Posted by kat at October 18, 2005 04:43 PM

Good work, nice to see you capturing a Toronto trademark before heading over to the Big Apple. You probably won't have much time take photos, but you always manage to avoid the cliche shots.

Posted by A.R. at October 18, 2005 05:12 PM

GOOD LUCK!!! New York is great -- keep your eyes peeled for some great street art!

Posted by Erin Z at October 18, 2005 05:14 PM

Good luck with your trip to NY, hope you can take some shots.

Your pictures inspired me to take a trip to Toronto this spring for 10 days.

There was too much to see and do. Enjoyed jazz and art at the Distillery District, Especially liked films in Toronto at the small festival I attended.

Didn't get it together for the big one, but one year.

If you ever get to the US again, consider San Francisco - it is very photogenic.

Posted by Peter Howell at October 18, 2005 05:48 PM

Good luck in NYC and get lots of good pictures in those 3 hours! I'm also going to NYC tomorrow from Sweden. I've been there before, but not for a long time. Wheeeeeeeeeee!

Posted by Amy at October 18, 2005 05:58 PM

Fan-bloody-tastic. That is a class-A shot.

Posted by Jamey at October 18, 2005 06:03 PM

It's interesting how the barrel distortion contrasts with the straight lines towards the back of the car. Hope you get some quality shots in NY.

Posted by Justus at October 18, 2005 06:05 PM

goodluck!

Posted by was frans at October 18, 2005 06:31 PM

Neat shot, I like the distortion the wide angle gives you, especially with all the straight lines.
Is the A95 a point and shoot or an SLR?

Also would you mind if I included your site in the links section of my site?

Posted by Ahamed at October 18, 2005 07:43 PM

The way the barreling effect comes in so rapidly at the sides where the center seems quite square is interesting. Not sure I like it. It seems a bit extreme, but what one might expect with a low cost add on lens.

Posted by Hugh Petrie at October 18, 2005 08:12 PM

Wow, you live in Toronto but have never visited the U.S.? You really must get out more. (Just kidding.) I thought you posted photos of Niagara Falls before. Maybe you stayed on the Canadian side. Great site you have here.

Posted by Mike at October 18, 2005 09:03 PM

hey no luck required, you're all skillz!

but if it makes you feel better, good luck

Posted by amc at October 18, 2005 09:05 PM

looks good

Posted by Ayan at October 18, 2005 10:21 PM

Don't worry, you can enjoy New York in one hour, so you'll be fine with 3.

Obviously you won't get to see anything, but you can certainly get a feel for the city. It's an amazing place.

Posted by jackie at October 18, 2005 10:28 PM

I can't believe this picture has been here all day and still hasn't had a comment. I think its awesome!! Reminds me of the older trams here in Melbourne, Australia. Top stuff, love the raynox!!

Posted by Hil at October 18, 2005 11:45 PM

Sam, I wonder, why do you take photos usually of empty streetcars? Why not with people? Is this something you plan or is this something subconscious.

Posted by daniel german at October 19, 2005 01:30 AM

If you're shooting citylife, New York wins, but for architecture, beauty and design, Paris comes out on top. Good luck with your 3 hours!

Posted by Aaron Schmidt at October 19, 2005 02:12 AM

very cool photo! and good luck in NY!

Posted by Julie at October 19, 2005 02:29 AM

i miss nyc, in a vicarious way, and have enjoyed each and surprisingly every one of your photos in the past.

Posted by lyn at October 19, 2005 07:36 AM

Cool detail. I'd love to got NY and shoot. Good luck!

Posted by jasonspix at October 19, 2005 09:10 AM

I really like the efect produced by the Raynox wide lens, sometimes I want to buy that kind of extension to my 18-55mm EOS 300d camera lense kit, I think maybe I'll give it a try.

Posted by Enric at October 19, 2005 09:27 AM

Wide angle shots are a lot of fun. The one here is cool because it's just starting to get distorted around the edges.

Posted by Joe at October 19, 2005 10:47 AM
