Nice post-work on this. The colours are well done.
Posted by Aaron Schmidt at September 12, 2005 01:26 AMGreat mixture of tangible texture and warm light. Reminds me of the sun coming up after a cool night. It's a tricky composition that you've done very well.
Posted by Dennis Rogers at September 12, 2005 02:14 AMI like how sharp and rough the stones look in this. Very nice.
Posted by lisa at September 12, 2005 02:19 AMInteresting lighting... nice effect.
Posted by Bart at September 12, 2005 02:37 AMI only visited Oxford for one day when I lived in England, but as soon as I saw your picture it instantly reminded me of it. I actually thought it was going to be a picture from somehwhere in Toronto and then I scrolled down and read your "description". Anyway, it was a bizarre but satisfying moment for me.

I knew this was england before I scrolled down the page! I love this pic. ? is this natural lighting or have you used something.
Love the texture on those bricks. Wonderful.
Posted by CurlyToes at September 12, 2005 05:13 AMVery mysterious, very English, very Oxford.
Posted by Ioannis at September 12, 2005 06:26 AMthis door looks fit to eat :)
Posted by sami jan at September 12, 2005 07:32 AMLight is a bit strange. What created that?
...and whoever owns the place probably wishes BW did not deface one of the sandstone blocks on the left of the door.
Posted by RobW at September 12, 2005 07:45 AMSplendid photo indeed. I just love the detail of the stone, and the tones here. Once again, you have found interest in an otherwise ordinary subject.
Excellent!
Beautiful light. Love the picture.
Posted by Zishaan at September 12, 2005 09:16 AMGreat lighting and contrast from the different textures. Another beautiful shot.
Posted by Dan at September 12, 2005 10:07 AMa little more rusty and moss around the keyhole and we have the pic for a fairy tale cover!. Great Sam!!
Posted by DavidFF at September 12, 2005 11:01 AMBeautiful.
Posted by A. at September 12, 2005 01:41 PMBeautiful light! Amazing!!!
Posted by spetra at September 12, 2005 01:47 PMAbsolutely fabulous photo, and one of the best in there for a long time (not to say the others haven't been good). Love the lighting (it seems the sun has been transformed to a local light source, which barely touches the door), and the postprocessing is great.
Posted by Bedraft at September 12, 2005 02:59 PMI would like to know why the Blue Boar doesn't have a blue door.
Nice photo, Sam!
Posted by Kathy at September 12, 2005 06:21 PMHey...
are you in England right now?!
great pic, really close up.
Posted by Ali at September 12, 2005 06:36 PMthe texture's nice, but I'm not sure I like the lighting or the colors on this picture.
I mean in a picture like this I probably would've desaturated it and adjusted the levels just to emphasize the contrast in textures.
I guess nothing really jumps out at me in this shot.
makes me want to walk in and see the inside. i did have to look a few times, to make sure that was blue boar and not blue bear.
Posted by minnie at September 12, 2005 11:43 PMlight is smooth...
Posted by Homa at September 12, 2005 11:44 PMSam, you're a great inspiration man, this picture is what makes me look at everything twice when I walk around, even a simple door. Very satisfying!
Posted by Shane at September 13, 2005 01:00 AMwow, i view your page every day, every single day your pics put a smile on my face for a little precious moment...
i just had to tell you that!#
I LOVE THEM!

Great composition, I love the textures in this photo.
Posted by SmileTO at September 13, 2005 01:21 PMNot only is this a pleasant foto, but the crispness adds an additional pleasing quality. Wonderful lighting as well. Very nice!
Posted by Abe at September 13, 2005 01:50 PMThe shadows here are lovely and somehow the framing has left the impression of a very tiny door.
Posted by Tanja > DoubleCrossed.ca at September 13, 2005 04:04 PMGreat lighting - very nice.
Posted by blindspot at September 13, 2005 07:24 PMWhoa! Thought I was going insane, then, catching up on your latest photos. I was expecting Toronto: Oxford's where I go to work every day :)
I know you can make an amazing shot out of the tiniest detail anyway, but if you're still around the area I'd recommend having a stroll around Cowley - it's such a vibrant & interesting area.
It's an odd city. Very divided in every way: historically, socially, financially, etc. A city of contrasts.
Anyway, welcome & hope you enjoy your stay,
i.f.
