Incredible depth of field in the second photo!

heh, interesting multiple photo post... I like it (usually, they all relate, but not these)... why did you decide to post them both tonight instead of saving one for later?

Good to see another Aussie in Heath taking it to the world :)

As for the skaters, the guy on the left must have been standing still watching his buddy. No blurr at all from him!

So you made it to the film festival - I'm absolutely envious, especially as I've wanted to see this film since Ang Lee said he was taking it on. Such a difficult topic to address sensitively. Great shots, both.

cool! both great shots that contrast with each other well.

Hey Sam, it's me- the girl from Centre Island Nike RunTo... I was wearing a scarf and had a Nikon D70 with me at that time...

Didn't know you were there to see Brokeback Mountain too! I thought it was brilliant! I read the book before and Ang Lee did very well following it!! Jake and Heath were absolutely amazing!! So I disagree with you on this Sam...

I wrote articles and essays on films for 4 years and I've seen lots of movies based on homosexuals. But none of those scored as high as Brokeback! So everyone, please dont get negative feeling! It's absolutely worth watching! I give it an A!!! :-)

Excellent use of black and white and good composition. I particularly like the way how each of the figures differently merge into or out of the background and one hand seems to float in midair yet our minds see it as still connected to the person.

Amazing shot. All your shots are great and this pic had to make me post my first comment. I was skateboarding there too yesterday. It was great. The guy standing still is chris a good buddy of mine. Check out http://www.tdotcrooks.tk to see more.

I like the way these go together, accepted vs. street culture? The black and white is an instant classic, the skateboard stuff looks raw and lively, so though both events are happening at the same time, they have a very different feel.

shock!*jaw drop*
Love the skateboarding shot!!!!

TIFF should totally hire you to take the pictures, they are more true to what the festival is all about-movies and people who love movies, not just stars.

Heh Sam.

Fantastic pictures as ever.
Love the subtle shades of black in the first one that mean you can still make out Jake's suit against the background...

Your pics inspired me to get a camera and start my own blog...so thank you!

both are really great sam !
well done

Look like you've got some exciting events happening around Toronto. Great capture of action in the second photo.

love the skateboard shot. the board disapears and it looks like he is doing some crazy dance moves in mid-air. unintended, i'm sure, but cool none the less.

holy crap! what a shot! i liked the black & white one as well. very nice.

Posted by minnie at September 11, 2005 10:49 PM

The second shot looks fake -- like someone's been playing around with composite images in photoshop.

Posted by Paul at September 11, 2005 11:52 PM

Interesting combination of shots!

Have you had any problems with cameras at TIFF? I've never been (I know, I know, and I've lived in Toronto my whole life) but of course would want to bring my camera along.

Posted by David S at September 12, 2005 08:13 AM

the first photo looks like something from a magazine and the second looks so surreal!

Posted by Krista at September 12, 2005 08:18 AM

ok, i don't expect this to make it through, but it's the ONLY thing that irritates me about this site, which I visit on a daily basis: the canadian spelling of theatre is theatre, not theater.

I only care because I do theatre for a living. Otherwise, love your photos to freakin' PIECES and you make me feel like I'm home in Toronto again...

Great B&W above - seems like you did a very good job in channels, or perhaps your own secret to great B&W's. The photo on the bottom is equally as impressive. Absolutely fantastic motion against dead stillness.

Dude - Brokeback is a masterpiece. A long time coming and well worth the wait. It's historic.
10 out of 10.

Beautiful b/w shot. Very classy. I like b/w because it adds a slant that makes you feel like the scene is unfolding in slow motion. Very old skool. Really like it. The second one is beautiful and effective too, but my personal vote goes to the b/w one.

Looking forward to Brokeback on DVD (don't think we'll see it in cinemas in the UK) - the trailer looked great. I do hope the movie is legendary.

My empathy to star-crossed lovers, Ennis and Jack. They made me shed quiet tears for their heartbreaking dilemma.Score 10 out of 10.

Posted by tawat at September 20, 2007 10:23 PM

Last night I appriciated the movie, unbelievable! How come I am moved deeply by the two men's pure love! Tonight I saw it again, and my tears couldn't help dropping down my cheeks.I believe the editor and Ang Lee are both great. To tell the truth, I like Jack's blue eyes, which bring so much to the bottom of my heart! His love is shown through his complexed eyesight and words.I love it,cause it always stings my heart... I'm sure I've never seen a better movie than this.Support it!
