Comments: six people in a box

I see you, Sam...

So, what about the loo? So they just open the door a crack and let loose into Dundas Square?

Posted by Hans in Toronto at August 31, 2005 12:51 AM

Good to see a bit of reflection self-portrait in the last shot!
We had something similar at Fed Square; "Band in a Bubble" locked up a band for a week or so while the made their new CD.

Posted by thefotokid at August 31, 2005 12:54 AM

Hey, this is pretty luxurious to me. But are they allowed to go out and release their 'outputs'? We have similar challenge in Malaysia too, but that was just for 4 contestants and they were required to sit inside a 4x4 pickup truck for many days... upto months. They are just crazy.

Sam,

Surprised to see you in the last shot. I thought you would have used a polarizing filter. This is more photojournalism, but I enjoy the site ion a daily basis. Thanks,

-Jerry

advertising has reached new highs and lows.. this picture well... you be the judge ;)

Posted by marquese at August 31, 2005 01:40 AM

Wow - what people will do for money. Where's the pooper? And only 1 bed? Wow.

Posted by Brian at August 31, 2005 01:42 AM

NOOOO!!!!!! MY DREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Geordan at August 31, 2005 01:46 AM

I hope that red door is a potty. :o|

Posted by Ms.Chievous at August 31, 2005 01:56 AM

Ha! I can see your reflection on the third photo! ;-p

Posted by nick at August 31, 2005 02:10 AM

One bed... OMG

Posted by //Rutger at August 31, 2005 02:32 AM

and that's you Sam on the last pic's reflection from the pseudo-dorm's glass ?

Posted by Junnie at August 31, 2005 03:13 AM

Whoa.. weird... o_0 But very interesting... the red looks good.

Posted by Namira at August 31, 2005 03:19 AM

Hmmm.. who's in that last reflection?

Posted by kat at August 31, 2005 04:12 AM

What nutters. Do they have a private loo to go to? Good to see you're using your bike too - certainly the best mode of transport...

Posted by CurlyToes at August 31, 2005 04:17 AM

Posted by tee at August 31, 2005 04:24 AM

Finally a self-portrait!!!! :)

So this dorm room is conveniently placed in the busiest place of downtown toronto? Your placed in it for 5 days, and if you outlast everyone you win all the great toys? That's so awesome. So what's the tough part. I mean other than the fact that you have tons of passerby's that might poke fun at you. How could you not last. C'mon futureshop..make something tougher!

Posted by Kaycee at August 31, 2005 05:47 AM

Not to mention. Me and the fella's at school use to sleep on lab tables and eat horrible late night meals purchased at the local Dominion. This like a pimped out comfort shack if anything!!! They got a bed, sofa and some entertainment. For real. They need something harder!!

Posted by Kaycee at August 31, 2005 06:22 AM

che docharkhe khoshkeli dari refigh!

Posted by ماهی دودی at August 31, 2005 06:36 AM

The lengths people'd go to to win some material goods ... or perhaps they just enjoy the challenge and the experience.
I like the colours and composition in the first shot the best and I like the third photo too as it includes a cool shot of the photographer and his bike :)

Posted by Susie at August 31, 2005 06:37 AM

One thing....how do they go to the bathroom/toilet??

Posted by buzz at August 31, 2005 07:41 AM

I like how you worked in the "self-portrait" through the reflection in the glass.

Posted by Matt at August 31, 2005 07:54 AM

Splendid PR stunt for Future Shop! I do like the reflected self portrait on your bike too!
I suppose your back from England now. I hope your trip was good!

Posted by JasOn at August 31, 2005 08:35 AM

That would drive me insane!
I need my privacy and regular showers, ha ha.
I mean, what if one of those people had a serious B.O problem?
But with the prize being toys, hmm..

Posted by Maura at August 31, 2005 08:41 AM

Interesting concept, unfortunately it makes me feel claustrophobic just looking at these shots. Can't wait to see your pics of england (my homeland), Sam I'm getting quite excited to see what your visual eye will make of it!

Posted by Keels at August 31, 2005 08:53 AM

hahaha that's awesome. I'm going to have to check that out. It's pouring out today. Wait a minute I don't see a washroom and how do we know they're really in there for 5 days? They can leave to go home during the night or something. lol

Posted by Giselle at August 31, 2005 09:01 AM

Where are the facilities?

Posted by Rob at August 31, 2005 09:04 AM

Marketing people just don't know what else to invent... any bets who's gonna win?
And you are on the last picture too!
Congratulations... i'm a big fan of your work.. i visit your site everyday from Chile and i made a link from my blog... keep going!

Posted by Rodrigo Ferrari at August 31, 2005 09:21 AM

Sam, you're visible in the reflection in the last photo. Photo of the artist as a young man.

What a terrifying challenge. 6 strangers in a glass box together for five days! How do they shower?

Posted by Molly at August 31, 2005 09:26 AM

There doing this in Ottawa too. With no way to wash for a week they'll soon get to know how they all smell. Gag me with a spoon!!! There's a few of your visitors who have no idea how bad it could be after only one day of sweat and no clean. And while I know they have a chemical toilet how do they use it unseen? And one bed for all? Funny! In Ottawa there's one woman and 4 or 5 guys. Hmm?

Desperation advertising and desperate contestants. What a world!

Posted by Hugh at August 31, 2005 12:07 PM

I like it. It's a nice change from your average photos, I like it. Keep up the good work.

Posted by Eric at August 31, 2005 01:47 PM

For all those asking about the bathroom situation, take a look at this photo of the "dorm" in Edmonton to answer your question: https://www-ssl.futureshop.ca/marketing/dormroom/images/city_edmonton/daily_004_s.jpg

Posted by payam at August 31, 2005 09:35 PM
