Comments: equipment list

Sorry about your flight, I know how it's like.. been thru that in Paris.

I really like this post although i'm not sure it's a real post. I'd rather see this in the about section.

your ego is taking over the picture content ;)

oh, here is an idea, keep that post in your about section :)

have a nice trip, mention you have your picnic and they might let you on a flight ;)

Posted by Nicolas at August 13, 2005 02:54 AM

how much does this system cost? also do you always carry this around?

Posted by tee at August 13, 2005 02:56 AM

Interesting..

Posted by Mehdi at August 13, 2005 03:03 AM

Just one question: where does the armor go?

Posted by Chris at August 13, 2005 04:13 AM

maaaaa! how heavy is your backpack? ha? about 10 kg? ha!

Posted by hossein daraei at August 13, 2005 05:14 AM

Interesting to see a 'behind the scenes' as far as hardware goes. Nice collection you have there :)

Posted by Brian at August 13, 2005 05:47 AM

Great site! I visit every day, and sometimes have a look at the archive.

Having lived in Toronto for 3 months when I was 11, I know what a great city it is.

Keep up the good work!

Posted by Threelight at August 13, 2005 05:53 AM

Well that should cover all the bases. Great setup.

Posted by john at August 13, 2005 06:37 AM

Thats an awesome collection.
This should cost fortunes n i guess the whole thing should be replacing itself within say somewhere around 5 years or may be lower?

Posted by Prasoon at August 13, 2005 07:08 AM

Hi, I love your photos. Thanks so much for sharing and for posting this up - now I know what a great photographer carries! How much did everything cost?

Posted by JCho at August 13, 2005 07:15 AM

love it; thank you and i hope that you have a safe trip when you and your wife finally make it out.

Posted by anne at August 13, 2005 07:37 AM

ohh, must be heavy.
I'm sure I'd get jumped carrying that much loot around with me.

Posted by Emily at August 13, 2005 08:27 AM

Lots of very organized good gear. Do you usually carry the whole caboodle when you are on regular photo trips?

Posted by Alicia at August 13, 2005 08:32 AM

Having just started my own photoblog with aspirations of grandeur, it's refreshing and helpful to see this rare glimpse into tools of the trade. I've checked your site every day since I discovered it, and have been nothing but impressed. Now I'm going to research everything in this pic to see how I can improve my shots!

Posted by kenneth at August 13, 2005 08:38 AM

Hey Sam!

Thanks for this post, it's great to know what tools you use, especially the portable 40gb hard drive.
The A95 will be staying home, eh?

Hope you fly out soon, enjoy your vacation. :-)

Whoa, you've got it MADE!

I can't wait until I can find an excuse to justify getting a D70/350D/20D.

Dig that funky bedspread from the 60's.

Posted by Kevin at August 13, 2005 08:59 AM

I wonder why you've skipped both 'i' and 'l', I guess it's all about readability ;-)

A very informative post and a very well organized person :)

Posted by Babak at August 13, 2005 09:01 AM

You must have an awful time going through security with all that equipment.

Posted by cm at August 13, 2005 09:11 AM

heya, awesome equipment! Pretty jeolous really :)

Anywho, I was wondering how much you like & use that Lomo LCA (was thinking of getting one myself).
Thanks!

Posted by pketh at August 13, 2005 09:29 AM

i, for one, found this post very informative --gives me an idea of what i'm missing in my bag... ;) just curious though... where did you get the apacer share steno drive? i was just doing an online search on toronto stores that might carry it, but couldn't find it...

oh, and i'm a big fan of your photoblog... thanks for sharing your awesome photographs.

Posted by sam at August 13, 2005 10:01 AM

The photo is interesting even without knowing what everything is.

And the background colors are from an airport lounge chair or some such?

Posted by Heidi at August 13, 2005 10:07 AM

Sorry to hear about your frustrating travel delays. I appreiciate this post...it's always interesting to see the contents of an artist's mobile tool kit. Bon voyage!

Posted by Christopher at August 13, 2005 10:12 AM

Impressive list. I have been looking at getting a polarizer for a while now and was wondering if you would recommend the Tiffen or any other brand? Also, is there any specific reason you use a 77mm polarizer with a 68mm -> 77mm step up ring? Is it to prevent vignetting?

Posted by Joe Lencioni at August 13, 2005 10:17 AM

Where's the cable release? (Or, if your camera is like my D-70, the infrared shutter release)

Posted by Charles Gardner at August 13, 2005 10:18 AM

Very cool post. A lot of revelations!

First, I did not know you were married. Second, I did not know you had a PSP. Third, that's a cool gadget for transferring stuff on and off USB devices. Even when taking a 'technical' shot, you manage to get some colour in (the background). Very informative post!!

Best of luck on your travels!

Thank you for sharing this information. I have always wondered about what type of equipment you used and this is very useful information to me. It is not boring at all and keep posting your great photos. Your photos always make my day and God Bless you on your trip.

Posted by c ballard at August 13, 2005 10:51 AM

0_0 wow...thorough setup you have there. tho i think you forgot the kitchen sink. i like the extra lomos you have stashed in there...hehe.

I Love Your Work!! so Much I Look At it almost Every Day!!

Posted by Carley at August 13, 2005 11:43 AM

wow, so you don't even CARRY the stock 350D lens with you?

Posted by tony at August 13, 2005 11:46 AM

wow, nice equipment :) I didn't knew you took lomo pictures, haven't seen one in your site for a while.

I'm saving to get some equipment like that. rigth now is a very old eos film camera and flash, and a cheap digital.

Posted by ivan at August 13, 2005 11:52 AM

That's a lot of equipment haha.

Posted by Ayan at August 13, 2005 12:38 PM

Would just like to express my admiration of your beautifully ordered bag - are those adjustable velcro dividers I see? The only camera bags I have ever used have been deep zippy holdalls, where retreiving equipment becomes something of a lottery - scrabbling around lucky-dip style for that elusive last roll of film or lenscap... Anyway, I hope that the lovely x-ray staff at Toronto airport get to admire it sooner rather than later.

Posted by Pete Naughton at August 13, 2005 01:30 PM

So I see you fancy cannon cameras and equipment?
Would you mind sharing why so?
I do not know much about professional photography, and I am interested in learning about different providers.

Posted by Tina at August 13, 2005 01:35 PM

and what about the bag that's able to carry all of this.

Posted by jamie at August 13, 2005 01:39 PM

I love this photo. It's very cool to see your equipment. It makes me want to spent more money that I don't have, though, that's for sure.

Posted by Jen at August 13, 2005 01:49 PM

wow, that would be like my survival kit right there. impressive. now we know how it's all done. this is classified as one of my favorite pictures actually, nice job.

Posted by mj at August 13, 2005 01:52 PM

*drool*

Posted by Nate at August 13, 2005 03:19 PM

I've been visiting your site for months and find all the shots great including this one! Course, collecting gear becomes a bad habit for far too many of us!
Personally it was fun for me to see what you lug around to take all those incredible shots.

Posted by Gil C. at August 13, 2005 04:25 PM

Oh man! you must have like.. a body guard or two to ensure nobody steals that! I'd be nervous beyond belief carrying that much equipment.

Very nice though!

Posted by Ben at August 13, 2005 04:35 PM

wow! you sure are a gadget boy ;) i find the "share steno" drive a must have. because whenever i travel, i carry my laptop so that i can transfer my photos from the memory stick. see what you did now... i have to go and spend some money, lol. thanks for sharing your gardgets with us ;)

Posted by armeen at August 13, 2005 04:47 PM

very cool - i love these "what's in your bag" shots/write-ups.

hope you get on your flight soon (i can only imagine that it is due to the walkouts in the uk?) i'm dreading a repeat next month when i head to london. speaking of which, you're joining us for the meetup aren't you? :)

Posted by chrys at August 13, 2005 05:38 PM

man, that looks like a lot of money. i really want a rebel. I didn't know there were hard drive things.

Posted by Hugh at August 13, 2005 05:42 PM

Very interesting. It's great to see what kind of material you carry with you. Thanks for the insight.

Posted by Richard at August 13, 2005 06:08 PM

I REALLY would love one of those backpacks. I have a Coolpix 5400 and an N50, two different lenses for the N50, filters and lens hoods for each camera, batteries, cables, mini-tripod, film, memory cards, card reader, yada yada -- when I am taking both cameras somewhere I use two good-sized camera bags for it all, and one (with the N50) is quite heavy. One of those backpacks would be SWEET. Expensive, though. Maybe for Christmas.

Posted by Rachel at August 13, 2005 06:23 PM

Wow! Now I know why I can't do beautiful photos as yours :-)) You're like a professional! Thanks for sharing that with us :-)

Posted by Oscense at August 13, 2005 06:43 PM

Holy sufferin' succotash! You're loaded. I hope you've got good travelers insurance to cover it all. Amazing how photo equipment can dissapear on the road. I hope it doesn’t of course.

Sure wish I had a cash flow that would cover even half what you have. So now you’ve told us what you have but what the hey are: m. lomo lc-a film camera
n. lomo supersampler film camera ? I’ve never heard of such a camera, not that I profess to have heard it all despite having spent years long ago in the biz.

AND: I hope your plane shows up and gets you there safely and back.

Posted by Hugh at August 13, 2005 06:57 PM

Oh my! I feel faint, its it warm in here or is it just the sexy camera gear? *pant* *pant*

Way cool setup man!

Thanks for taking the time to show us the method behind the madness, this is really interesting!

All I can say is... someday I will have a set up like this!

Good luck on Monday with the flights man!

It's a great idea to keep your vacation alive while you wait by showing your gear.

Thanks for explaining the share steno drive - good idea.

Hey awesome collection you got there, and everything fits nicely too. Thanks for sharing.

Posted by Threee at August 13, 2005 11:38 PM

Hi,

I saw a comment from someone asking about Tiffen 77mm polarizers. How is it compared with other big names such as Hoya or B&W? I love your outdoor pictures and the blue skies. Is there any post-processing involved or is it just the Tiffen PL?

Hope you loved Toronto.

(In fact i saw your site in an article published in a weekly magazine called Eye Weekly here in Toronto while riding the subway - and i'm glad i did :) )

Regards,
Michael Param

He must have a very strong back.
Thx Sam; nice to know !

Posted by rene at August 14, 2005 06:11 PM

Nice set of equipment there. I really need to get myself a nice bag for my camera and two lenses. (Seems like nothing compared to everything you have)

Posted by Raffi at August 14, 2005 11:35 PM

I like how the Lomo has brought some color to the collection. It says fun even as it just sits there. Not that the rest isn't fun ;-)

Good luck with the flight!

http://lomography.com/

great site, i've been enjoying it daily since i saw it mentioned in... hmm, don't remember, some online article featuring 3 photobloggers, hope you saw it!

Posted by Stephanie at August 15, 2005 12:56 PM

Good Kit. You're acting like a pro...but, of course...you blow many away. Only thing I missed was your cleaning kit from visibledust.com.

Posted by cd at August 15, 2005 01:18 PM

I have been using the mighty lomo LC-A (and action sampler) for about 6 years....

Go to: http://www.lomography.com for more info. Its a great site and community. And its still a film camera that is fun! :)

Can be pretty pricey for such a small camera, but Ebay also has a lot of LC-A's...but be careful who you buy them from. They are built like a tank (Thanks Russia!) but some have shutter problems after the years.

Posted by Matt at August 15, 2005 02:30 PM

I'm jealous. :) Beautiful equipment.

Posted by Mo0osh at August 15, 2005 10:20 PM

I don't have a camera yet even my site is up and running for a few weeks now. Still trying to get my dissertation done and hoping to get a job in Manchester if I am really that lucky and then things can work from there. This might be my equipment list guide in the future. Cool!

Posted by jessy at August 16, 2005 05:26 AM

Not boring at all.
Great gear. I hve the XT as well. Love that little camera.

Anyone catch that article on Friday about Wonderland facing a lawsuit over a camera?

Posted by Dave at August 16, 2005 09:23 AM

thanks for the tip on the HD, didn't even know those existed... If only you could hook up a iPod directly to digicams, this would not be needed, but in the meantime, it's definitely lighter than carrying your laptop around :)

Posted by m d at August 16, 2005 02:02 PM

Wow, You're really into this whole photography thing.

Posted by qoJ at August 17, 2005 10:59 AM

Thanks for this look "behind the scenes" of your photography set up. I really appreciate how open you are about explaining your technique and set up.

Posted by Dan at August 19, 2005 11:33 AM

I like your photo equipment. My next lens is a 70-200 f4 L because I have seen what you've done with it. Interesting photo as well.

Posted by Abe at August 24, 2005 01:56 PM

wow.. I'm so jealous. I envy your equiptment like crazy.. I also wanted to add that I have been staring blankly at your photographs all day and I'm struck with such awe at how beautiful these are. you're wonderful and I wish I had talent like yours. please take care. bye

Posted by Amanda at August 28, 2005 09:30 PM

All things I want for Christmas and birthdays in coming years. But, eh, isn't your 10-22 standard equipment?

Posted by Peter Klomp at June 27, 2007 05:16 PM

I feel sorry for you. You've become a slave of equipment. Most wonders are created with jsut a good film roll, 50mm and a tripod.
