Fine shot, given the circumstances.(If you were driving the car, I'm doubly impressed!)

Posted by John at August 19, 2005 03:58 AM

I love the way the streaks of orannge sperads across the picture from the left side. The fog/mist just adds to the calm. Great capture.

Posted by Srijith at August 19, 2005 04:07 AM

Dramatic. Really nice. Looks a bit like a giant robot invasion too.

Posted by Liz at August 19, 2005 06:34 AM

Cool. Alien-like pylons.

Posted by Navin Harish at August 19, 2005 07:37 AM

This shot is awesome! You wouldn't happen to have some wallpaper sized ones laying around, would you?

Posted by Jay D at August 19, 2005 08:24 AM

"The horror", "the horror". This looks like one of those humid days we had. This is one of my favorite photos of yours. Lots of drama.

Posted by JasOn at August 19, 2005 08:24 AM

Ah the beauty of 500kv hydro lines of the Gattineau corridor. Lots of fun experiments you can do under those lines.

Surprisingly sharp photo for the conditions.

Check this out everyone!! This is so amazing! I just discovered Google maps.
Go into Google home page, choose "more", then look for the link titled "maps". type in Caledon and navigate your way in using the zoom and scroll buttons, then you can see an actual satellite image of the badlands area (Look for Olde Baseline (Hwy 12), west (left) of Chinguacousy Rd.) as well as any area in the world!!!! Pretty amazing. Some are capable of pretty close satellite shots.

Posted by JasOn at August 19, 2005 09:19 AM

hmmmm, reminds me at the 1950s, 1960s scifi-films.
you know the giant walking robots sorta ;-)

btw: "hydro-tower"? (non-native english speaker) reminds me of a "water-tower"?

Ouch! I've tried to capture this photo of the hydro towers on a few trips to Toronto now. *Damn* you're good, Sam.

Cheers

Liz's (German) message above would read in English :
Unfortunately my English is not sufficient enough to express my enthusiasm about this photo! Therefor in my native language: This photo almost appears from another star. Somewhat spooky and still friendly. Wonderful!
I hope it's close enough what Liz wanted to express.

you have a unique talent for taking the mundane and transforming it into something enchanting...this photograph being a perfect example of this god-given gift. please tell us, sam, before you snap the shutter can you actually picture in your mind what the actual photo will look like? i have seen rows of hydro pylons "millions of times" but never once so absolutely beautiful. i hope you realize how special you are.

Posted by martin at August 19, 2005 05:34 PM

To Jim who was wondering about "hydro" towers. Ontario generates a lot of its power using hydro-electric generating stations (i.e. dams). It's so prevalent that many power utility companies have "hydro" in their name. Most people refer to their electrical service generically as "hydro" as in "It's time to pay my hydro bill." or "Look at the cool picture of hydro towers that Sam took." In Canada, the use of the term is pretty much restricted to BC, Ontario, and Quebec because that's where all the big dams are located.

Posted by Bob at August 19, 2005 05:53 PM

it reminds me of the movie BRAZIL.

Posted by siavash at August 19, 2005 07:27 PM

Posted by mamo at August 19, 2005 09:04 PM

Very cool. This shot is somewhat similar to the photo posted today at www.downdream.org, although you might have to click "previous" to see it.

Where is the wallpaper version for this one?

Posted by Lucas Engel at August 20, 2005 02:21 AM

This is a beautiful picture, and it reminds me of home. but I was wondering why do they build the towers in such way. So the tower in the back makes sense, but look at the two front towers. The bottom two wire groups are suspended from the horizontaly extending structure of the tower - and that makes sense - but the top bundle of wires is suspended from a centre of a beam that looks uselessly too big and that sits on top of two arms, each of which seem to have an obvious weak point. Does that make sense? maybe the weak points are not really weak - there's a beauty in function. Maybe it's done so that people can take pretty pictures. That rocks...

Posted by Jiri at August 20, 2005 01:45 PM

this is great!

Posted by tee at August 20, 2005 05:11 PM

Nice! Shots like these make me wish I'd stopped and gotten a less blurred shot, but with the fog it's so blurry already. Looks good.

Posted by Viking054 at August 20, 2005 05:17 PM

This seems so alike to a video game art. its crazy cool!

i like how this was taken from a moving car and the blurs that come with it.

Posted by Hugh at August 20, 2005 09:14 PM

Stunning. The fog, the sky, the orange tone. Love it.

Posted by Raffi at August 21, 2005 12:24 PM

divine. simply divine.

It`s great!! When I`m looking at your photos I`m starting to think about moving to Toronto...

Keep doing your job . You`re the best !!

Beautiful photo. I love the lines and colors. You've made the simplist scene into a breathtaking image.

Posted by Ariela at August 23, 2005 09:54 AM

Sam,
What can I say that hasn't been said before? I will say that beauty of one thing doesn't take away from the beauty of another... but damn!!! If you keep setting high standard like this shot, it might make the other good pictures ordinary by comparison.

Posted by Selam at August 23, 2005 11:25 AM

Wow. Such incredible light in this foto. The lines and the mist are seductive. The trees in the foreground left provide great dimension. Wonderful, breathtaking shot, Sam!

Posted by Abe at August 24, 2005 01:36 PM

CONGRATULATIONS!

GREAT PICTURE...

Posted by Veronica at September 3, 2005 07:53 AM

I love the colors and the fog. I wouldn't think it was shot from a vehicle.

Posted by Alicia at September 5, 2005 10:01 AM

The fog is great... and the color of the sky makes the fog more dramatic

Posted by SmileTO at September 13, 2005 02:19 PM

You were lucky to compose the shot so nicely in such fast pasted environment as a car. :)
