Comments: the long road

Another beautiful shot!

Posted by Madison at August 2, 2005 02:12 AM

wooooooowwwwwwww!!! such an awesome shot. the clouds really pop out. i love the texture of the road and the cracks in it, the faded yellow lines. i also love the awkward path the road takes as it runs into the sky, and the slope of the hill way in the back. great frickin shot!

Wonderful colors and a great perspective!

Posted by Dutch PhotoDay at August 2, 2005 03:23 AM

Beautiful shot - the sky is simply amazing, and the image is aptly titled.. that road goes on forever! I love the tone and texture to the pavement, as well as the greenery on the sides. Quite excellent.

Posted by Brian at August 2, 2005 03:27 AM

the clouds are very pleasent in this one.

Posted by chris at August 2, 2005 03:30 AM

Sam, you are a god.

Posted by fdfsaf at August 2, 2005 03:41 AM

Interesting cracks on the road. Nice perspective of the road fading at the horizon.

Posted by Bart at August 2, 2005 03:42 AM

Daaaaaaaaaaaamnit - when will I be able to take a picture like this?? Really very nice, good work!

The view is great, the sky looks awesome, and the street does not run exactly straight in one direction, so it fits to the non-parallel and unpredictable nature.

But it somehow appears that the saturation of the colors is a little bit too heavy, so the intense makes it look a little bit unreal ... so lush (hope this word makes sense, I looked this up in a dicitionary). How comes? RAW-specific characteristic? Photoshop-Trick?

Greetings from germany,
Tobias

no so original, but so beautiful

simple shot can give great pics !

Posted by R at August 2, 2005 04:42 AM

i like the photo just because is not limited, there it is the beginning and the end; nothing gets out of it, is natural and beautiful.

Posted by nenueth at August 2, 2005 05:12 AM

I like the contrast between the blue sky, the green grass and the yellow lines on the road. It's a really beautiful picture.
=)

Posted by Maura at August 2, 2005 05:33 AM

What a stunning sky! Composition works well though it's a bit of a shame the pic's so big that I have to scroll to see it all.

Posted by Neil at August 2, 2005 06:21 AM

Vivid, great colours. Any filter used? Or just slightly PSed? :)

Posted by bmoll at August 2, 2005 06:44 AM

Posted by DavidFF at August 2, 2005 08:34 AM

Almost surreal clouds. Perfectly aligned shot on a perfectly aligned road. It could go on forever.

Posted by Sean Galbraith at August 2, 2005 08:54 AM

nice shot dear.

Posted by sanaz at August 2, 2005 09:01 AM

this is a proper wall poster image! basic road+greens+clouds.. and has all the nice colors to look at!

Posted by aashish at August 2, 2005 09:12 AM

Look at the clouds and the flowers and those cracks in the pavement - the detail in your photos freaks me out!

Posted by Scott at August 2, 2005 09:21 AM

You make me want to move to Canada!

Posted by C.K. at August 2, 2005 09:46 AM

No comments yet?!

This is a beautiful shot... reminds me of all of our roadtrips across Newfoundland (with the broken up roads and all). Did you use a polarizing filter on this shot? I'm always amazed by how true the colours of your skies look.

Thanks again,
-Mark

Yesterday, I went to see badlands (after I saw the photo in here), there were so many people whom I guess were your fans, as all of them had a camera ready :) Thanks for introducing such an amazing place.

Posted by Arezoo at August 2, 2005 10:29 AM

This looks all too familiar ;) I know of a few roads here that look almost exactly like this.

Posted by Teja at August 2, 2005 10:34 AM

Woah. Nice green, yellow and blue.

Posted by Ray at August 2, 2005 10:44 AM

Excellent exposure.

This is really cool, the colors, the patern of the road, detail, and the perception.

really cool stuff!

Posted by Hugh at August 2, 2005 11:02 AM

This would be a good one to put a magnifier thingy on (Like you've done on some of your previous shots) for us to play with. Just fantastic!

Ahhhhh, a lovely escape for my mind - and so lovely that my body is almost convinced that it's escaping as well. Mind, body and soul are all now inspired to do so - it's just a matter of time!

Beautiful shot. Thanks, Sam!

fantastic.

Old Base Line east of Hwy 10 looking west towards McLaughlin Road, just outside the village of Inglewood. What we are looking at is the Credit River valley.

Good to see more shots of my old area.

Posted by Hans in Toronto at August 2, 2005 01:30 PM

This is incredible. Beautiful colors, great composition.

And I don't mind at all that you stood in the middle of the road to get THIS shot!

Posted by Stephen A. at August 2, 2005 01:43 PM

look at the clouds!!!!!!!
amazing shot.
it smells like circular polarizer.....

great colours and everything...

Posted by nicolas at August 2, 2005 01:43 PM

oh my god.

Posted by jesse at August 2, 2005 01:52 PM

Great clean shot Sam.
Another photo that shows true colour. The clarity is outstanding here.
I've driven this road, very hard stay to the 80km/hr limit!

Another great location for shooting scenic areas like this is on Airport Road, North of Hwy #9. Northeast of Orangeville. (about 20 minutes beyond Cheltenham badlands.) The area is ALL hills and has numerous photo ops especially at sunset and sunrise! You'll think you're in Austria! There is also a Provincial Park named Mono Cliffs nearby which I imagine is good too.

Posted by JasOn at August 2, 2005 01:57 PM

I'm betting you took this one quickly -- handheld, not tripod-ed.

Posted by M-J Milloy at August 2, 2005 02:20 PM

really beautiful, nice composition. colors are great

Posted by mariel at August 2, 2005 02:35 PM

Posted by degan at August 2, 2005 04:04 PM

just beautiful.

can you make this a wallpaper? :)

Posted by doris at August 2, 2005 05:13 PM

Another great shot!! I love the colors. But did you use some sort of exposure braketing for the sky and the greens?

Posted by Sriram at August 2, 2005 05:32 PM

me wants WALLPAPER!!!!

Posted by roger at August 2, 2005 07:46 PM

Are the colours just a little too 'perfect'. I'm sure you'll say 'yes, this is exactly how i remember it', but purists within photography have to think that there is just a little too much contrast with the colours on this 'perfect' day.

Yes, it's a fantastic shot - Sam, I love your work... but think that you don't have to use photoshop all the time...

Posted by Adam at August 2, 2005 08:09 PM

Wonderful shot. Its cool when you are driving and the road seems like it goes on forever. That sky look fabulous!

Posted by Joe M at August 2, 2005 08:33 PM

The sky looks amazing. Great composition - real feel for the space.

Posted by James at August 2, 2005 09:31 PM

Posted by Leila at August 3, 2005 11:37 AM

Wow - very cool, Sam! Love the perspective and the lines, not to mention the incredibly sky and clouds. This foto is very pleasing to look upon. I'm getting my polarizer out today.

Posted by Abe at August 3, 2005 01:10 PM

Wow,I love it !
Would be a nice time to just go as far as the road goes.
Wouldn't it be nice to start a vacation like that??

Posted by Claudia at August 3, 2005 06:45 PM

Amazing. The colors really scream at you and the sharpness is unbelievable. I love the shape of the clouds standing out against the blueness of the sky.

Posted by Alicia at August 3, 2005 07:59 PM

Sam, you're the reason I'm moving up from my DC4800 to a 350D Rebel XT. I don't have the eye you do, but I sure want to develop it. I have a bunch of pictures I took of the badlands back in the late 90s with my DC40. You make me want to get back out to the west end with a new camera and see what I can do with it. Thanks for the brilliant inspiration. You really are a photographer apart.

Posted by Lone Primate at August 4, 2005 12:27 AM

Hmmmm. Sorry to be a dissenting voice, but for me this photo is a little 'overcooked' - a bit too contrasty, saturated and sharp. Also, I think you need a bit more road and less sky, which should enhance the depth perspective.

Posted by Simon C at August 4, 2005 02:21 AM

this makes me severely homesick for ontario - it seems that everywhere else in the world they budget for things like highway maintenance. sigh...

Posted by Susan at August 4, 2005 02:15 PM

Gorgeous lines and color.

Posted by O b e l i x at August 4, 2005 02:42 PM

Lovely shot. Regarding filters, I'm guessing this is shot with a CP, to increase the cloud contrast and cut the glare off the road surface.

And it's cleverly composed to have a timeless quality - it avoids shadows that might indicate the time of day. (The signs on the right show no shadows at all, because they fall into the vegetation.) Shot at noon? 1:00 PM?

I'd love to see the full EXIF.

Posted by Max at August 4, 2005 03:13 PM

whoa! this captures everything thats good about "nothing" ... beautiful- you should do promo shots for ontario tourism...

Posted by triscar at August 9, 2005 10:44 AM

i remember that road quite well..

wonderful foto, very inviting :)

Posted by Kristina at August 12, 2005 05:46 PM
